Nearest airport: Heraklion at 145 kilometres
Nearest beach: Beach at 100 metres

On the South East coast with a mountain backdrop Makrigialos benfits from some of the best weather on the island. The nearest towns of Ierapetra and Sitia both have bustling water fronts with cafes spilling out onto the promenades. Ierapetra, the nearest can be reached by car in 25 minutes and Sitia will take a little over 30 minutes. Both are also accessible by regular local buses. Sitia also has an airport but the island's main airport, Heraklion is a drive of around 1 hour 45 minutes. On the south coast of the island you benefit from seeing the sun both rise and set and, although there is still plenty to do, you escape the tourist bustle of the north and come closer to traditional Crete.
