In a peaceful, friendly village, this homey stone-faced house offers spacious & comfortable accommodation. Outside on the bank of the Nivernais Canal you can relax and sip a chilled glass of local, golden Chablis whilst watching the canal barges glide past. On the ground floor there is a tiled entrance hall with a double bedroom with separate bathroom and a large kitchen/diner/sitting room. A staircase leads up to the spacious, light, elegant salon on the first floor with long windows overlooking the canal and the courtyard at the back of the house. Double doors lead into the vast main bedroom en suite & another staircase leads up from the salon to the top floor where there are two more big double bedrooms one en suite and one with a separate bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped with an extensible round oak table which will seat 15 when fully extended. The tow path provides easy walking/bicycling in both directions for miles with plenty of attractive places to stop for a drink or lun

Villiers-sur-Yonne is in the Bourgogne region which is renowned for some of the best wine,places of historical interest, abbeys and ancient chateaux. For enthusiastic ramblers it is still possible to walk the old pilgrim routes. The nearby, beautiful, hilltop town of Vezelay with the Basilica Madeleine built for the pilgrims, has some of the best gourmet restaurants including Marc Meneau's 'L'Esperance' which nestles in the valley below. Some of the finest wines come from this region as well as from Chablis and Irancy which are an easy day out for wine tasting and good restaurants. More local wine tasting can be found in Tannay a small town 4 miles away with a wine cooperative.Activities available are tennis, bicycling, river swimming, riding,canal cruises and walking when it is possible to see exciting wild life on the banks of the River Yonne and the canal.   • There is a separate fully tiled shower room on the ground floor with basin, bidet and toilet. The ensuite on the middle floor has a shower, toilet and basin and on the top floor there is a full bathroom with bath with shower, toilet and basin. The next door bedroom has an en-suite with shower, toilet and basin.

  • The main ensuite bedroom with four poster bed is on the middle floor and is huge with double French windows leading to the outside stone staircase and long windows looking out onto the canal on one side and onto the courtyard at the back of the house at the other side. There are two large double bedrooms on the top floor one ensuite with a double bed and the other with a double bed and two single beds and a separate bathroom. There is a child's bed/bench with a Dunlop pillow mattress on the landing. On the ground floor there is a double bedroom with two single beds and a separate shower room. There are more beds/day beds in the salon. One small double and a single and a very comfortable double sofa bed.

Notes: The house is close to the canal therefore any small non-swimming children should be supervised at all times. There are a couple of child-size life jackets kept in the house which can alleviate worry about accidents. There is a long wooden table kept in the hallway which is for use for outdoor meals in front of the house under the canopy of the vine, as well as an umbrella with stand which can be used when the sun is too strong. It could be arranged in advance if you wish to have a daily maid service. Central heating and firewood are not included in the rent. Wheelchair ramps can be put in place if we are notified in advance.
