Immediate area/things to do:
Blue Bay is on the coast near the village of Bahceli about 20 minutes drive from Kyrenia. The area is ideal for swimming, sailing, snorkelling, walking, bird watching, horse riding, and mountaineering. There is a championship golf course about 15 minutes to the West. To the east you will find wonderful secluded beaches – some of the best in the Mediterranean, e.g. Karpas beach – and traditional unspoilt N Cyprus villages. Lara beach, with sunbeds, shades and a small café, is 15 minutes drive West. Alagadi, an official Turtle Watch beach is 10 minutes from Blue Bay. Acapulco, a hotel complex with all facilities including an aqua park bars and restaurants, is about 20 mins away.
Further afield:
Kyrenia is excellent for shopping for Turkish crafts (e.g. excellent Turkish delight and kilims) and there are lovely restaurants around the old harbour, specializing in seafood. There are many museums and castles in the area, - including a particularly spectacular castle and museum in Kyrenia and the beautiful Bellapais Abbey on the hill above Kyrenia with spectacular views of the coast. There are several excellent restaurants in Bellapais village, all with panoramic views. Nearby Kantara castle is a crusader fortress built into the hilltop in a stunning location with wonderful views across the island.
You can visit Famagusta (Gazimagusa) to see the Roman City of Salamis. In Nicosia (Lefkosa) you can see the beautiful Selimiye Mosque, and The Great Turkish Bath which dates back to the Ottoman period. It is also nice to walk the old streets and browse around the interesting little shops.
Restaurants/shops:
Nearby Bahceli is a very traditional village, with a small shop. Esentepe village, approximately 8 minutes drive away, has the nearest mini-mart and two good restaurants with excellent food at very reasonable prices. There are other restaurants a short drive away - the Eagle's Nest is on a cliff about 5 mins drive away and serves excellent fresh fish and traditional Turkish meze. A large supermarket, Lemar, is on the road to Kyrenia.
