Photos and Description of this Kent holiday cottage 3 Double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom. Cot available on request.

If you are looking for a coastal property with breathtaking uninterrupted sea views, then Admiralty Cottage is the one for you. You do not get much closer to the sea as the garden leads directly onto the beach. Rebuilt in 1896 as the Chief Officer's house, it has undergone a sympathetic renovation. The house is set over three floors and offers comfortable and stylish accommodation, three of the bedrooms, the lounge and kitchen all look out to sea! The large decked area overlooking the sea is ideal for al fresco dining. The garden wall is 'the sea wall' with access from the garden directly onto the beach. The Cottage will appeal to sea lovers all year round. The house is situated in the beautiful little village of Sandgate, near to Hythe (with the Dymchurch railway) and Folkestone. The property would make a wonderful base for holidays or short breaks at any time of the year (Eurotunnel only a 10minute drive).

History and Hythe...: Sandgate spans 2 & 1/2 kms of Kent coastline between Folkestone and Hythe. It fringes the English Channel . Here you will find an area teeming with naval, military and social history and a village with a fascinating mix of architectural styles. Enjoy a stroll along the sea wall, or explore the network of byways and woodland paths with panoramic views across the Channel. Rowing, fishing, bathing and cycling are also popular. Sandgate is situated next to the beautiful place of Hythe, a Cinque Port with 18th century houses in narrow streets. Behind the beach Martello Towers and the Royal Military canal helped to defend against a possible invasion by Napoleon. The town reflects its defensive hill position over the centuries. There are many beautiful and historic buildings related to the naval background of the surrounding towns for tourists to visit. In addition to Hythe and Sandgate, you should also visit Canterbury.

Canterbury: Canterbury, within a short drive is one of the most visited towns in England, all because of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, an everyday tale of stories (some spicy!) told by pilgrims on their way to Canterbury along the Pilgrims Way from Winchester. The town has pre-Roman and Roman origins and in AD603 the first cathedral was built here. The present one was started in 1070. Famous as Archbishop Thomas a Beckett was murdered in the cathedral in 1170.

Things to do, and places to see...: Saltwood Castle, dating from Norman times, destroyed by an earthquake in the 16th century, and was a stop on the way to Canterbury for Thomas Becketts killers. Restored in the 19th century. Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, runs along to New Romney for 13.5 miles on narrow gauge track. St Leonard's Church, Norman, crypt has a large mystery collection of bones including 2000 skulls, unique as locals were 3' shorter than others in Britain. Tel: 01797 362353 Port Lympne Animal Park, Mansion and Gardens, B2067 inland, 300 acres with rare breeds, shuttle bus, gorillas, rhinos, tigers, elephants, etc, nice rooms in the house, shop, etc, Tel: 01303 364646 Lympne Castle, B2067 inland, fortified medieval house, Tel: 01303 267571 FRANCE... only a few minutes drive to the Euro tunnel, that takes you to France within 35 minutes (contact the booking centre). Amazing location

Admiralty Cottage was everything we had hoped for. I had not booked holiday accommodation on-line before and was slightly nervous. I need not have worried. It was exactly as described and very well presented. The garden gate opened directly onto the seafront which delighted my daughter. The beach was clean and extremely quiet. The cottage itself was light and airy with loads of space. Very clean. Excellent accommodation. Highly recommended.

you should try it

The photos on the site were allready beautifull. We were afraid that, because we had such high expectations, it could never stand up to those expectations. But is was even better than expected. The cottage is beautifully furnished and decorated. The views are fantastic. The location is fantastic, the weather was great. Folkestone was a beautifull nearby town with a very nice park and playground for the childeren. The safaripark we went to was also very nice. On the promonade behind the cottage you can walk in either direction for miles. Dawn was very helpfull in giving us some nice things to go and see or do. Everything is in a few miles distance. We had a great holiday and we would surely book again. Super thanx.

What a Gem of a place

We booked at the last minute and was not expecting such a great place. The photos dont do it justice.. for once we booked something that was even BETTER than expected. The house is beautifully furnished and decorated. Our room backed onto the sea, we had fantastic views. The location is a great base for travelling around the area (10 minutes to get the train to France), and of course the sea view .. magnificient. With the little promonade (that is quite quiet) at the back you can walk for miles.. it was a great holiday, very romantic and one we would definately book again. Excellent thank you.

Great Holiday

Review Submitted: October 23, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This year decided to stay in the Uk for a holiday... what a great choice as the house is fantastic, and the location stunning. Did not realise it actually backs onto the beach, so we were able to BBQ, out on the decking and sit and watch the children play on the beach - very relaxing. There was loads to do from walking (great promonade at teh back of the house to walk along, that takes you into folkestone or hythe) and also a well cared for Childrens advernture playground. We visited castles, vinyards and the safari park.. great time. Owner was very helpful with details about the property and location - highly recommend. Thank you for an enjoyable holiday, and see you next year.
