Le Mas du Coq is a charming stone-built C. XVII Languedoc farmhouse, cool in summer and full of architectural interest, renovated with style and equipped to a very high standard. On the edge of a peaceful hamlet on the borders of the Cevennes (World Heritage site), just outside the pleasant market town of Anduze. It has stunning views over vineyards, olive groves and unspoilt countryside. The secluded garden and a wide upper terrace offer panoramic views and multiple choices of sun or shade, with a private electrolysis salt-water pool, 9mx3m, easy on the skin and long enough to exercise as well as relax. A large kitchen downstairs, and a second kitchen upstairs add flexibility especially for two sharing families or three generations together. The rooms are generously proportioned. On the ground floor there two double bedrooms, with a large kitchen, dining room, and salon, opening out onto a secluded garden and the 9x3metre electrolysis salt-water pool. On the bright and spacious upper floor there are two further double bedrooms, a large salon and a second well-equipped kitchen, which allows plenty of space for two families or three generations to be together when they want and separate when they want. None of the bedrooms adjoin each other, adding to the privacy aspect! The large upper balcony has sun and shade and wonderful views. The balconies and separate garden divisions with mature trees offer many opportunities for quiet leisure away from the main garden area. There are CD and DVD libraries, board games and TVs on both floors with separate access to UK satellite and French channels. There is separate barbecue area with brick-built barbecue. The garden and pool are maintained by local experts

Le Mas du Coq lies on the edge of the hamlet of St Roman, 4 kms from the market town of Anduze, ‘the door to the Cevennes’, on the pretty River Gardon. Anduze has excellent local shops, restaurants, markets, a supermarket and all services, and we are 45 minutes from the sea and the historic cities of Nmes and Uzes. The gorges of the Ardèche, the salt-marshes of the Camargue, the charming towns of Avignon and Orange are all within easy reach. Hill-walking, pony-riding and wine-tasting are popular activities. There are grottoes and a famous bamboo park to visit, and a little steam train winds scenically up to a market town in the Cevennes. A car is essential to enjoy all that is on offer.

  • Payment is requested in GBP paid into our UK bank account, or the equivalent current Euro rate into our French bank account. 30% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking and the rest of the payment must be paid 8 weeks before your holiday. A breakages deposit of 300 GBP is required with the final payment: this is returned to your bank account one week after you leave, providing all is left in good order.
  • In summer electricity is included. In winter, electricity is at cost.

Notes: The beamed lower kitchen has enough equipment to serve the whole house, with dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave, two fridges and washing machine. This is a real cook's kitchen with everything from chef's knives to oyster forks. It opens to the dining room and food can also be served direct to the pool patio. The well-appointed upper kitchen can be used as an additional facility, with oven, microwave, hob, fridge and dishwasher. It is particularly useful for using the large upper balcony. It is also useful for people on the upper floor to keep drinks and snacks (or baby food) close by.

How to get there: By air: Ryanair operates low-cost flights from Luton, East Midlands or Liverpool to Nimes (Garon); 40 minutes transfer by car. Ryanair also operate a daily flight from Stanstead to Montpelier, 1 hour transfer by car. Easyjet have a daily low-cost flight from Gatwick to Marseilles; Bristol-Marseilles. British Airways Gatwick-Montpelier. PLEASE NOTE, many flights are seasonal and timetables can change. A car is essential: rental companies are available at Nimes, Marseilles and Montpelier airports and also at Niimes Railway station - Avis, Hertz, and Europcar.By rail: A regular TGV service operates from Paris to Nimes (4.4 hrs), or from Lille, which connects with the Eurostar. By road: the most direct is the A7 Auto route through Lyons leaving at Junction 19 (Bollene)

Things to do and see: Anduze and Alès have retained their old-world character and charm. In Anduze, there is an excellent market on Thursdays, and a very popular flea-market on Sundays. In summer months there are free music shows in Alès. The Saturday Market in the provencal town of Uzes is a place to admire the architecture and people-watch while being dazzled by the wares. The Pont du Gard is the largest surviving Roman aqueduct, while the Roman amphitheatre at Les Arènes puts on excellent summer concerts. The nearest golf is at Ribautes les Tavernes (9 holes) or Nîmes Vacquerolles (18 holes), and there are miles of sandy Mediterranean beaches. And all about there is wonderful countryside for walking or enjoying from the car.The Book of the House has a comprehensive selection of brochures and event details.

As I mentioned in your visitors book, we were a little concerned that there would be enough to occupy three active teenagers - but were pleasantly surprised... in fact we wished we had an extra week in order to carry out all we wanted to! Le Mas du Coq is a beautiful home in a stunning vacation - we could not have wanted for more. In fact, after years of 'talking about the dream' we have now decided that we do want to buy a house/project in France and we thank you both for inspiring us in this regard! We have already started looking for our version of the French dream and have come home with lots of brochures!!l We will definitely be in touch again about booking Le Mas du Coq and will be recommending it to our friends. (I suggested that one of their teenagers might write us a review - but the holiday had obviously been so relaxing the review has never quite arrived........)

This place is magical. Gorgeous old house, fabulous views, roses and lavender growing round the pool...we loved it.

The house and pool are even better than the photographs suggest - but it's the layout of the property that is its greatest strength. It's a big house by any standards, so it suits large family groups - but it's cleverly designed in such a way that one can always drift away to find a quiet spot to read or snooze or sunbathe. The spacious salons, the L-shaped balcony, the shade of two large trees, the gravelled barbeque area...all perfect secret spaces to retreat to. In practical terms the house is so easy to live in - both the upstairs and downstairs kitchens are fully equipped; there are plenty of loos (including an outside loo) and the gardening, linen and pool-care are all taken care of.

The best thing about the sleeping arrangements is that the house is divided into upper and lower apartments (divided by a sturdy red door). All our kids (and one set of parents) slept in the upper apartments - so when the little ones woke at the crack of dawn they had the run of the upper space (two bedrooms, large sitting room with telly, kitchen and sunny balcony). And only one set of parents had to burrow their heads under the pillows!

We had three little children with us (under-fives) and an eleven-year-old. Big outings included the Steam Train, the Bambouseraie, the Haribo factory, and the Grottes de Desmoiselles. Little outings (which were just as popular!) were to the market and the playpark in Anduze, and a stroll down the hill to watch the horses grazing. And the nearest lovely beach is within an hour away. The kids were also very happy just exploring the property and swimming.

Grown-up outings included several more far-flung markets, and a day in Ales, visiting the stunning but sadly neglected cathederal, the Pierre Andre Benoit art gallery (which is absolutely not to be missed if modern art is your "thing" - they have Picassos and Picabias) and the dusty-but-charming Colombier museum (beaux-arts & archeologie).

A wonderful, unforgettable holiday.

Oh, and good for bird-watching - we saw hoopoes and heard Scops Owls.

herrliche Sommerferien im Mas du Coq

An sehr guter Lage gelegen (ruhig, aber Geschäfte gut erreichbar), bietet Mas du Coq alles, was das Herz begehrt: stilvolle Einrichtung, viel Platz und top Ausrüstung. Angefangen vom Pool (mit Kleinkinderschutz) bis hin Autoparkplatz ist alles vorhanden, was man sicht wünscht Auch bei maximaler Belegung (8 Personen!) bietet das Haus sehr viele Aufenthalts- und Rückzugsmöglichkeiten. Wir haben unsere Ferienwoche in vollen Zügen geniessen können!

In an excellent position (peaceful, but with shops within easy reach), Le Mas du Coq offers all that the heart might wish: stylish furnishings, lots of space, and top-class equipment. From the pool (with child safety fence) to the parking space, anything you need is there, and even with the maximum occupancy of eight people the house offers many places to relax and retreat. We were able to enjoy our holiday in every way!

Lovely villa in a quiet location.

Le Mas du Coq, situated in the small elevated hamlet of St Roman with commanding views over neighbouring vineyards.
What makes this property ideal is that whilst it is one large family house it also offers individual privacy and independence if required. We had three children in our party ranging in age from 11-15yrs so while the location enjoys the utmost privacy and tranquility we tended to spend one day in and one day out for the children. The coast was 2 hours door to beach, Uzes ½ hour and well worth a visit for the Haribo factory (for both children and adults) and canoeing along the river Gard, which affords close up views of the pont de Gard. Nimes was an unexpected surprise with the amphitheatre being the main attraction. Nearer to home the town of Anduze (5mins drive) has a wonderful market and pretty bars to pop along to for an” appero” in the evenings. Plenty of adventure parks in the trees nearby for children of all ages.
Although if you just want to unwind and catch up on all the books
you’ve put aside then stay by the pool put a sunbed under a tree and
listen to the cicadas whilst supping on a wine from the local
vineyards.

Stunning property

Mas du coq in the tiny village of St Roman is a complete oasis of calm and a million miles from our frenetic Spanish life style. The original Mas has been converted into a very spacious and welcoming home with everything decorated with impeccable taste. Far superior to what you would normally find in a rental property. The house seems to be very suitable for a combination of generations with plenty of corners where you can relax away from the young!

The salt water swimming pool made a nice change from the usual over chlorinated 'holiday' pools. The sunny garden is great for eating and relaxing in and is well provided with a variety of areas to sit in, barbecue and eat.

Table football proved a great success with us all, although the competitive noise levels may have been a bit high!!

The local area provided us with plenty to do and see. The market in nearby Anduze is not to be missed as is sight seeing in places like Uzes and Nimes.

For anyone looking for a relaxing family holiday in a really comfortable house in a great location the Mas du Coq takes a lot of beating. We recommend it highly and will certainly be returning soon.

Ideal property in 2 interlinked apartments for two families or two generations of same family.
Easy for kids to enjoy their TV downstairs while adults can enjoy theirs upstairs or socialize on the spacious patio.
Well equipped kitchens and both adequately furnished with cutlery, crockery and utensils.
House well furnished and pool cleaner in daily attendance; garden also looked after by English lady.
Superb housebook with detailed instructions
Beautiful historic towns, villages and hamlets all around and restaurents in abundance.
Great golf clubs nearby.
