Renovated stone farmhouse in peaceful hamlet close by the Cevennes.
Le Mas du Coq is a charming, sturdy, stone-built XVII Century Languedoc farmhouse, cool in summer, recently renovated with lots of style and equipped to a very high standard, on the edge of a peaceful hamlet on the borders of the Cevennes, just outside the thriving town of Anduze. It has stunning views over vineyards, olive groves and unspoilt countryside. The secluded garden and a wide upper terrace offer choices of sun or shade, with a private electrolysis salt-water pool, 9mx3m, easy on the skin and long enough to exercise in as well as relax. A large kitchen downstairs, and a second good kitchen upstairs add considerable flexibility especially for sharing families or three generations together. Our English-speaking representative, Passos, is welcoming and responsive. In low season, half of the house can be rented (either upper or lower), giving in each case two bedrooms, a kitchen and a spacious living area.

Le Mas du Coq lies on the edge of the hamlet of St Roman, 4 kms from the market town of Anduze, ‘the door to the Cevennes’, on the pretty River Gardon. Anduze has excellent local shops, restaurants, markets, a supermarket and all services, and we are 45 minutes from the sea and the historic cities of Nmes and Uzes. The gorges of the Ardèche, the salt-marshes of the Camargue, the charming towns of Avignon and Orange are all within easy reach. Hill-walking, pony-riding and wine-tasting are popular activities. There are grottoes and a famous bamboo park to visit, and a little steam train winds scenically up to a market town in the Cevennes. A car is essential to enjoy all that is on offer.
