Stintino Wild & traditionnal fishing
Welcome on board on the larger fishing boat built by Stintino Old Masters called as one of the most famous of them Fortunato ( Lucky ). This boat will take you to a touristic fishing inside the National Sea Park of Asinara Island and the National Earth Park of Asinara Island.
Asinara Island National Park
The Asinara Island became a National Park in 1997. The diving activity with local guides has been allowed since 1999. Dives are possible on both sides, each one presenting very peculiar characteristics. On the East side, a totally different submarine landscape, very beautiful for snorkellers too: shoals with traces of ancient shipwrecks also from the Roman time, wide beds of posidonia and smaller landslides, where octopuses, dentexes, morays and groupers are easy to find. On the West side, stretches of indented coast and sheer cliffs offer the divers a marvellous underwater world, among steep slopes and suggestive landslides, long canyons and high pinnacles climbing up to the surface. This is the kingdom of groupers, black umbers, dentexes, forkbeards and lobsters, hiding in the darkest fissures. Among schools of damselfishes and white breams, barracudas swim in the blue. Many species of native and introduced mammals on the island, including horses, asses, goats, sheep and wild pigs.
Stintino events
The origins of Stintino date back to 1885 and a settlement of 45 families, prevalently tied down to fishing who came from Asinara Island. Previously, the territory was populated by the distinct shepherds' settlements who used to live in natural shelters. The village became an autonomous municipality the 10th of August, 1988. The first elections and the appointment of the town council took place in March 1989. The village is developed inside two inlets where small harbours are situated. They are side by side, the old port called 'Minori' (small) and a new port called 'Mannu' (big). Many events and entertainment are organised for tourists and residents during the summer season. Among the important annual festivals is a boat race at the end of August called 'Regata della vela latina'with more than 100 traditional boats We also recommend visiting the museum Tonnara at the new port. The most famous beach is called 'La Pelosa' but there are others, equally as nice 'Saline', 'Puzzona
