Idyllic self-catering property in the heart of rural Normandy. Ideal for a relaxing, 'get away from it all' break. Boasting an outside swimming pool, bicycles for hire and comfortable, peaceful surroundings a relaxing holiday is there to be had. Just an hour from the scene of the d-day landings and the same distance from the Bayeaux tapestry, history buffs will be well provided for. If it's exercise that you want there are loads of places to walk and you can hire bikes from us if you wish to go further afield. There is even a cider farm nearby that offers guided tours and the chance to experience the produce of the farm.

5 Bedroom, 300 year old Farmhouse. Comfortable living room that seats up to 9 in front of a rustic wood-burner. Kitchen has dish-washer, washing machine, microwave, fridge freezer, gas cooker and seating for eight around a large table. There are five bedrooms, 3 on the first floor and 2 on the second (one with en-suite bathroom). There is also a bathroom on the first floor and a WC on the ground floor.

Swimming Pool: There is a 10m * 4.5m swimming pool available to guests. Sun beds are provided as well as seated areas for eating meals. The pool is available until 20:00 each day.

Local places of Interest: Carrouges Châteaux is less than 4 miles away and is well worth a visit. There is a cider farm less than two miles away that caters for visitors supplying samples of the product in the process. The D-day beaches are less than an hour away, there are also many museums and memorials.

Restaurants: There are many fine restaurants in the area (none walkable) many of which provide cheap lunches (around 10 Euros for a four course meal) and some splendid fixed price options from 12 Euros up to 50 Euros. We've gone out of our way to sample the food at these establishments and we're yet to be disappointed.

Writing a review for La Drutiere cannot possibly do it the justice it deserves. Our family group of 11 stayed in both the farmhouse & cottage for a fabulous week in June and no-one wanted to leave when Saturday came. It was all that we hoped it would be - and much, much more!
When you find somewhere that you wish was your very own (for a week, anyway), with all the homely touches that make it so special, you just don't want to share it with anyone but that, of course, is not the way it works.
Hosts Suzanne & Andy have equipped both properties with everything you could possibly need and were on hand to give advice about any aspect of the accommodation, which was prepared beautifully when we arrived.
We went to La Drutiere for a relaxing French holiday and that is exactly what we got - having said that, it is located in a beautiful area and there are still plenty of places to visit and things to do, whether you want to stay local or make a day of it and travel a bit further.
The actual setting is quite spectacular and you can sit and admire the view until almost midnight. The quiet area beneath the trees faces due west and the sunsets are something else – each one is different but no less stunning.
The pool is ideal for cooling off in and is large enough if you want to do a few lengths – the robot pool cleaner needs to be seen...
As I said at the start, I don't think that anyone would be disappointed with La Drutiere and I know that your hosts will bid you a very warm welcome at the start of what will be a really special holiday.

Idyllic farmhouse

Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Drutiere in June 2009. The cottage has a great pool, barbecue and is set in plenty of space. Suzanne and Andy were perfect hosts for the week; it would be great to visit again next year.

The rooms are all a comfortable size, with the living room especially inviting with its homely log fire for if the clear nights get chilly late on.

The surrounding area represents rural France at its best - the Orne and Sarthe regions are characterised by rolling hills and chateaux, while the famous wine region of the Loire Valley is only an hour or so south of the property. North will take you to the D-Day landings sites, cemeteries and museums and the Bayeux Tapestry, while the monastry of Mont St Michel is worth a visit, around 90 minutes west. More immediately, Carrouges and La Ferte Mace are two towns well worth seeing. Thanks for the stay!

The Perfect Hide Away

My husband, a friend and I stayed in this beautiful cottage in July 2008. The property is beautifully laid out, very spacious and extremely comfy with all the luxuries of home but with beautiful stone walls and wood beams to give the feeling of ultimate country splendour. The property and the grounds are very clean and very well maintained. At the front of the property there is ample safe parking and at the rear of the property there is a good size refreshing pool set in a huge garden with a patio and outdoor dining area overlooking fields. The location of this cottage is such that it is an extremely peaceful and tranquil setting, we soon forgot the stresses of home and work whilst sharing a bottle of wine around the pool. If you get the chance late in the evening take a coffee outside and look at the sky, we have never seen a sky like it, its like a sheet of onyx dusted in diamonds, we sat out there one night for at least 2 hours and saw an array of shooting stars. The local town is only a 10 minute drive with quaint shops and restaurants and 2 lovely bakery's for fresh bread and croissants in the morning. There is a huge supermarket about 20 minutes drive in the other direction. We ventured out to Gold Beach to quad bike along the coast and see the d-day landing sights as well as visiting the American and German war cemeteries, the difference in their grandure is quite humbling. The churches and cathedrals in the surrounding towns are an amazing sight. Suzanne and Andy (the owners of the propety) are extremely friendly and helpful and ensured that our stay was perfect for us and we will certainly be returning here in the future. This property comes highly recommended.
