Beautiful self-catering seaside cottage with all the comforts of home situated on the lovely south coast of Cornwall. Light, spacious 3 storey Victorian house furnished in a modern, contemporary style with painted floorboards, attractive, quality furnishings and light colours throughout. The large front garden is an idyllic place to relax and enjoy the beautiful sea views. At high tide you can stroll down to the nearby cove and jump off the jetty for a swim. At low tide, the beach is a great place for rock pooling and crabbing. The house comfortably sleeps 8 guests in 2 spacious double rooms, 1 converted loft room (great hideout for the kids) and 1 single room making it most suitable for 5 adults and 3 children. Most of the rooms have sea views and the property benefits from large sash windows taking full advantage of the beach location and fabulous light. The garden is enclosed making it very suitable for families. Great walks onto the coast path from house. Dog friendly.

The house is in a small beach community consisting of clusters of houses, a popular pub serving local beer/food and a small art gallery with cafe. Mevagissey, a 14th century working Cornish fishing village is a 10 minute walk along the hilltops. With its coloured fishing boats in the harbour and small independent shops, galleries and restaurants lining the narrow cobbled streets it is a lovely place to visit. There is also a regular boat service to the popular sailing town of Fowey, a great day out. There are a host of lovely beaches in the area, some are hidden gems waiting to be discovered and are only accessible by foot or boat. The house is situated on the South West Coast Path so you can walk for miles in either direction with stunning views. Whether you are enjoying a romantic break or a well-deserved family holiday, there is plenty to do. The world renowned Eden Project is 15 mins drive, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, a 5 min drive, the popular Roseland Peninsula 30 minutes

Christmas reduced!!! 30% deposit due to secure booking, balance due 6 weeks prior to rental period. Payment accepted by cheque or bank transfer. Returnable security deposit of £200 (either payable to housekeepers in cash on arrival at property or in cheque with balance of rent). To cover breakages, damage to property or extra cleaning. Returned on vacation of the property minus any forfeitures. **LONG TERM WINTER lets considered at reasonable rates, please contact owner for details** Euro and US dollar payments accepted.
  • Weekly rates include cleaning. An extra cleaning fee will be payable for short breaks, fee depends on number of guests in party - please ask for a quote. Preferred changeover day is Saturday. Guests need to vacate the property prior to 10.a.m. on the final day of their holiday. Guests entering the property may do so after 3 p.m.
  • Cancellation fees: if the cancellation is received before the final payment is made: the deposit will be forfeited. If cancellation is received after the payment of the final balance, the total rent is forfeited. Please therefore take out appropriate travel insurance to cover cancellation of your holiday.

The top triple room is better for kids as two of the beds are bunkbeds. The second double room has a four poster bed. The main bed is a kingsized mattress. The single mattress is adult sized.

Property Suitability: The location of the cottage is perfect for families, couples or friends in need of a break. The garden is enclosed with a large lawned area. The beach is about 20 paces from the bottom of the garden. At low tide there is a sandy area for playing and rock pools for crabbing and exploring. At high tide you can stroll down to the jetty and jump in for a quick swim. Portmellon is a friendly community and the protected waters and jetty attracts boaters and kayakers from the surrounding areas. The pub is a great meeting place where you can enjoy a pint of the best Cornish brew and a pub meal while admiring the view. Full cottage guide in the property.

Suggestions on What to do:: * Walk into Mevagissey and enjoy fish and chips on the quayside. Watch the fishing boats come and go and enjoy some of the craft shops and coffee bars. * Join the South West Coast Path for the walk past Chapel Point to Gorran Haven. Great cliff top walks with crashing surf. * Rent bikes and cycle the pretty Pentewan Trail through the valley to Pentewan Sands. * Take a short drive inland (10 mins) and visit one of the finest examples of Victorian Gardens in the country: the Lost Gardens of Heligan. More than 220 acres to explore including a 20 acre 'jungle' great for kids. Good restaurant and farm shop. * Visit the world renowned Eden Project built in a disused claypit (15 min drive). Inspiring gardens and biosphere domes exploring the vital relationships between us and our planet. * Walk to a hidden cove and spend the day swimming, rock pooling or relaxing. * Visit the gardens and fabulous beach at Caerhays. * Drive to the Roseland Peninsula & visit the lovely St Mawes

Facilities and shopping:: Mevagissey offers craft shops, restaurants, pubs, bars/coffee shops and some general grocers. Large supermarkets in St Austell, a 20 minute drive from the property. Great general store in Gorran Haven selling firewood, fresh fruit and veg, general foods - also small post office. Portmellon has a small, accessible boat jetty perfect for launching sailing dinghies, kayaks and motorboats. This makes the house a sailing or boating paradise. Boats can be stored at the bottom of the garden and then pulled the 40' or so to the jetty to launch. Once out of the protected cove there are some great hidden beaches to be discovered along the coast. Mevagissey is also perfectly accessible by boat - go buy your bread and provisions by kayak!

Very comfortable well equipped holiday house, a real home from home. Excellent information about the area from the owner. Lovely child/dog friendly beaches excellent for bodyboarding, rockpooling etc, coastal walks suitable for older children. Excellent family restaurants highly recommended is the Sharks Fin in Mevagissey just a short walk away. Ideal base for exploring the many tourist attractions in Cornwall. We have had 4 very relaxing breaks here, it's watching the sunset over the sea in a fabulously comfy bed that draws me back....Perfect, we will be back!

Great Beach front holiday home

Lovely Victorian holiday home with a beach at the bottom of the garden. We found lots to do away from the beach as well - searched for hidden coves along the Cliff path, visited Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project, walked to Mevagissey's restaurants and cafes. Great weather too.

Restful, Practical and Beautiful

My husband, daughter and I enjoyed our stay at Portmelon because it was so easy and peaceful. The house is spacious and fully equipped and felt like home. The setting is lovely, over looking the bay and the walks are beautiful. It was a pleasant amble into Mevagissey for a meal and look at the shops. We shall definitely go again.

A lovely place to stay!

I have stayed at St Porth with my family a couple of times, it is a beautifully furnished house and very comfortable. The views are stunning, waking up in the master bedroom with the sun rising over the sea is wonderful, and a great way to start your day. The property is clean with everything you need for a great holiday. Mevagissey is a short pretty walk away, when you get there you will find plenty to do. There are some lovely shops which I always spend far too long in and there are some really good family friendly places to eat. A favourite place for us is Sharksfin right on the habour. I would recommend a stay at this cottage, we love it.

Lovely, comfortable home, beautiful views, friendly locals, friendly owner, plenty of entertainment options. Great location with lots of sight-seeing (Eden Project, Seal Sanctuary, Land's End, Penzance, St. Ives) Coastal walks suitable for hikers (walks not suitable for young children/pram) Lots of local walks suitable for young children. Nice beaches, great for dog-lovers.
