Situated within the walls of old town Avignon, thousands of years of history, steeped in religion and politics, overflowing with architectural masterpieces......and buzzing with wonderful cafes, restaurants, galleries and shops, outdoor markets and colourful characters. In a quiet residential quarter, just 100 meters from the nearest bakery, restaurant, cafe and book store, and en route to all that Avignon offers, the apartment has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a spacious lounge/dining room, a large eat-in, fully equipped kitchen and a sunny terrace with table, chairs and barbecue. There is a full laundry, private garage, central heating and cable internet access and television. Rates include all utilities and linens, no added extras! With windows on three sides of the apartment and wonderfully high ceilings the apartment is light and spacious. Built in the 1950's as a private home then converted into two apartments it is an ideal escape for your summer or winter holidays.

  • I ask a 1/3 deposit to confirm your reservation and the balance is due 8 weeks prior to arrival. I can accept a bank transfer in Euros or a cheque in Euros. Unfortunately I do not have credit card facilities.

  • For privacy and comfort, each bedroom has a bathroom. Heated towel rails keep the fluffy towels warm during winter.....a welcome delight! A starter pack of toiletries is supplied: soaps for shower/bath and hand basins are provided along with a good supply of loo paper. Each person has two large towels and a face cloth. Hand towels and bath mats are provided in each bathroom. If your schedule has happily allowed you to stay more than one week, then there is a change of bed, bath and kitchen linens every Friday. For anyone wanting a quiet time with the crossword puzzle....there's an additional . next to the laundry where you'll find the washing machine,dryer and a supply of laundry products.

    Red room - 1 Extra Lg. Double Bed, or twin 90cm beds.
  • Two bedrooms, ideal for two couples or a family. The grey bedroom has one queen (160cm) sized bed and an exquisite bathroom with bath, shower, WC, hand basin and heated towel rail. With large picture windows overlooking the garden, the room is light and airy. Large armoire, chest of drawers, bedside tables, reading lamps and an overflowing bookshelf. Iron, ironing board and hair dryer are provided. The red bedroom has one king (180cm) bed which can also be two 90cm twin beds. The seperate bathroom for this bedroom has a large shower, WC, hand basin and heated towel rail. Overlooking the narrow side street, this bedroom has a seperate dressing room with hanging space and a chest of drawers, iron, ironing board and hair dryer. With bedside tables, reading lights and again, a well stocked bookcase. Both bedrooms and the lounge/dining area are carpeted for comfort...so feel free to pad around in bare feet if you wish!

Notes: Though I prefer you not to smoke inside the apartment for the comfort of your family and friends and for the guests following your visit......there are ashtrays and comfortable chairs on the terrace. The private, one-car garage (with remote control door) and fully equipped laundry are on the ground floor; the apartment is on the first floor. So between there is a wide flight of stairs with a hand rail should you feel the need.

Airports and train stations:: Avignon airport is now handling several of the low-cost airlines and is located approximately 6kms from the heart of Avignon. Car reservations need to be made in advance and the rental company will organise your pick-up at the airport. Marseille airport is a buzz of low- cost and regular airline arrivals and departures. The large rental car companies are represented there but do make your reservations in advance. TGV fast train comes into a dedicated station approx. 6kms from the heart of Avignon. There is a shuttle bus between this station and the local train station just outside the walls of Avignon. From this local station you can take the train to Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, Cavaillon and many more. The large rental car companies are represented at the TGV station, but do make your car reservation in advance. From the TGV station or Avignon airport, it's a 10 minute car trip to the apartment. From Marseille airport it's approx. 1 hour by car.

Tours and Sights:: There is an excellent tourist information office on the rue de la Republic in the middle of town. Many languages spoken, books and brochures available, assistance with reservations for tours, theatre and restaurants if you feel the need. Many bus tours are advertised and several wonderful boat trips down the Rhone river to Arles where you can spend three or four hours exploring the Roman ruins, then relax on the boat, sipping a coffee and watching the world drift by.

Art, Theatre, Jazz and more....: Avignon is renown for it's cultural festivals throughout the year. The annual theatre festival is superb with many world class productions on offer. There are also some fantastic 'Off' productions from small theatre companies all over Europe, with young actors and an abundance of enthusiasm. It's always great fun just to sit in the sidewalk cafes and watch the passing parade of street theatre...day or night, it's a colourful site. The annual Jazz festival is always terrific too. With huge variations in 'jazz' and many new talents being discovered, it's always great fun to drift from cafe and bar, to street and .... the next cafe....the next club....! Lovely/Ihana/Underbar

Le Coeur d'Avignon, did exactly that, took our hearts and left them in Avignon! We (2 adult couples) came to Avignon from Oulu in Finland at the end of July 2009 for one glorious week in the sun. The weather was perfect, the apartment was fantastic (so neat and tidy!): spatious bedrooms, lovely lounge and kitchen, two bathrooms and the chance to do our laundry! We loved the terrace (eating late at night in candlelight and with the stars shining brightly, wow!). Les Halles, the food market, was great, you could find everything there. We also found several nice restaurants, Le Pago Pago at Place des Carmes, was one of them, just about a 10 minutes walk from the apartment. Avignon has a lot to offer, and this apartment is really cosy and feels at home, much thanks to the owner! Really good and friendly service everywhere. We'll return for sure!
In Finnish: 4 aikuista saapui Avignoniin Oulusta heinäkuun lopussa (suosittelen kaikkia ottamaan TGV-junan Pariisin lentokentältä, menee vajaassa 3 tunnissa Avignoniin Pariisista ja on paljon suorempi reitti kun jos esim. tulisi lentäen jonnekin Provenceen). Ilmat olivat mahtavat ja asunto todella siisti ja tilava: 2 makuuhuonetta + molemmissa omat pesutilat, pyykkimahdollisuudet, hyvät olohuone/ruokailu ja keittiötilat. Kiva terassi, jossa ruokailu iltaisin todella mahtavaa! Paikalliset ravintolat olivat todella hyviä, Le Pago Pago yksi niistä. Pidimme todella paljon kokonaisuudesta: asunto (siisti ja puhdas), Avignon ja ilmat:)!
In Swedish: Vi åkte till Avignon från Uleåborg i Finland för en veckas semester i slutet av juli (rekommenderar TGV-tåget från CDG-flygplatsen i Paris, tar bara ca 3 timmar och man kommer direkt till Avignon). Vädret var vackert och lägenheten toppen (ren och bra utrustad)! 2 sovrum med egna badrum, vardagsrum/matplats/kök, samt möjlighet till tvättmaskin! Terassen var underbar, speciellt kvällstid. God mat och bra service i Avignon kan man väl summera med. Allt fungerade bra och det var lätt att ta sig runt överallt, speciellt med tåg.

Wonderful!

I am only half-way through my vacation and already know that I want to return to"Le coeur d'Avignon".
I actually need about 3 months to explore the area to feel like a native.
The apartment is easy to settle into. It allows the light of Avignon to permeate. Within a day, it felt like home.
All of our needs have been met and Pam (owner) has been available to answer our questions and make us feel at home.
We have no car so our legs are our primary mode of transportation. There is a garage for those with autos. Buses are available to locations outside of "centre-ville". We have yet to make it "Sur-la-Sorgue" and St. Remy. Next on our agenda is a boat ride on the Rhone (Arles).
We have become regulars at the "Fournil La Fille De L'Artisan" about 5 minutes by foot. The owner's love of her work shows in her products and her smile. (Excellent baguettes, by the way). There's usually a waiting line and the baguettes are sold out by afternoon.
Back to the apartment...There's plenty of room to move and an excellent stove for cooking. Microwave, coffee maker, toaster, utensils...great! There's a market about 10 minutes by foot so we eat in most of the time.
There are books and games available when the Mistrals are active. Cable TV and internet access...very convenient!
The washer and dryer have been a huge help!

fabulous apartment, so well equipped

We stayed at the apartment for six days in April. We planned on a three day stay but were so wowed by this fabulous apartment, and so much to do in the area, that we were able to extend our stay. The apartment is in a quiet side street, about ten minutes walk from the central squares etc, and is better equipped than my house at home! Fabulous kitchen especially with cute little terrace, lovely main bedroom, loads of local information and very helpful owner in Pamela who could not do enough to ensure our stay was a good one. Would definitely return and definitely recommend!

A pleasant stay in Avignon

Le Coeur d'Avignon, within the city walls, was exactly what we were looking for.  We flew from Southampton to Avignon Airport, only  a few miles from the city centre.  We did not have or want a car (although there is a garage with the flat) but instead travelled to Arles by boat, and by local bus (1 Euro for the over 65s!) to St Remy de Provence and Villeneuve sur l'Avignon. The flat was very comfortable indeed and very nicely furnished, with ultra-modern kitchen and bath/shower rooms and lots of guide books to look at.  The flat was about a quarter of an hour's walk to the centre of town (probably less for a younger person!) Avignon is full of history with lots to see, and being within the city walls we were conscious of the relatively small amount of noisy traffic and the ease with which we could find our way around.  With the bonus of a lovely landlady, we can thoroughly recommend it!  Rosemary.
