Cascais
This old fishing town, once the summer residence of the Portuguese royal court still keeps faithful to its origins with numerous mansions, small streets and restaurants.
Sintra
The town of Sintra, whose mountains and the subsequent National Park testify to the royal origin of this region and is classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their natural beauty and culture. The charm and architecture of Sintra, the castles, city walls and old cobbled stone together with its famous pastry (at Piriquitas coffee house) remember the ambiance of long forgotten eras.
Beaches:
Cascais offers the accessibility to some fantastic beaches. The Estoril Coast stretches along the west coast from Lisbon. Along this coast lies an abundance of sandy blue flag beaches where the sea is calm.
Near to Cascais is also Guincho beach with a fantastic scenery looking out to the most western point of Europe (Roca Cape) and place of surfing and windsurfing championships. Further North lie the beaches of Adraga (calm and no wind) and also Praia Grande.
On the other side of the Tagus river about 1 hr driving from Cascais to will find the Arrabida Coast with sandy, calm and blue seas perfect for swimming and watching the local Dolphin colony together with some famous fish restaurants in Setubal. Nearby is also the Troia peninsula with more than 60Km of wide sandy and calm beaches .
Surfing / Windsurfing:
Cascais and its surroundings offer great Windsurfing for the experienced at Guincho, merely 10 minutes driving from the apartment. This beach is also excellent for surfing together with Praia Grande beach.
In winter surfing can be done in Sao Pedro & Carcavelos beach all nearby.
