The Algarve is Portugal's most popular tourist region with its beautiful beaches and hidden coves. Lagos was an important Roman settlement and a variety of ancient Roman ruins remain. Today the town is a maze of winding tiny back streets with an abundance of restaurants and bars, antique shops and local art shops. The town centre is a bustling hive of activity particularly in the evenings with restaurants offering a variety of fish and seafood and traditional Portuguese food, you can also find Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Indian & Thai restaurants. Lagos has 5 different beaches, the largest being Meia Praia, a 5 Kilometre stretch of golden sand, where there are watersport facilities available. Along the front in Lagos there are plenty of boat trips available that take you around the rock formations and grottoes or out to sea to watch the dolphins in their natural environment.
