A beautifully restored 16C stone house that has seen centuries of life, a house that sits amidst the dreamiest of atmospheres, its large windows in every room bearing testament to the natural environment that pervades every sunbeam and shadow in the house. A fire-place in every room, this is a house to experience in winter or in summer. Posto Del Sole stands in a clearing on a hillock and is sun-lit all the time. You reach this fairy tale cottage either via Bazzano Superiore or directly from Spoleto, 7.5 miles away. Very easy access to Orvieto, Assisi, Perugia, Trevi, Foligno, Bevagna, Montefalco, Norcia, Castelucia and the Gran Piano. Rome is just over 1 hour by train. And, of course, the jewel in Umbria's crown, Spoleto, is just 7.5 miles away. Many tracks criss-cross each other over mountains that go on forever. This is a walkers’ paradise ! Even better mountain biking country ! You can hire mountain bikes locally. And, the Giro-D’Italia bike race passes nearby each year.

The apartment is furnished to the highest specification with comfy seating, 2 fire-places, large windows - all with views, beamed ceilings throughout and with a fully equipped fitted kitchen + utility room. Around the pool, there are many sun-loungers, tables and chairs etc and you can enjoy plenty of privacy because of the wide borders that afford lots of space for everyone.

7.5 miles from Spoleto historic centre, close to Assisi, Perugia, Orvieto, Gubbio, Spello, Trevi, Montefalco etc, Posto Del Sole is in the heart of pilgrim territory. The Valico Dei Pellegrini, just 5 minutes up the lane, is the mid point of the oldest religious trail in Umbria, passing from Assisi to Rieti . The significance of this point was recently honoured by the Bishop of Spoleto, who blessed and marked it with a ceremonial stone. Along this 60 mile trail, you find monasteries, churches and outdoor alters, all used by St Francis in a bygone era. Norcia is 30 miles along a quiet road of outstanding beauty, used by the famous Giro D'Italia bike race. A little further is the famous Casteluccio on the Gran Piano. Everywhere, you find truffles, fine wines and the the best olive oils in the world. The restaurants, the shops and the local people are a joy. You are immersed in the most sensational landscape in the world. Here, you will find Italy at its finest. And, at modest prices !

Notes: Please note there is 1 washing machine, 1kitchen, 1 utility room, 2 bathrooms + 2 living/dining rooms (if 1 is not utilised as a 3rd bedroom). The pool is for the exclusive use of the guests at Posto Del Sole. The private, 1 mile drive-way leading to Posto Del Sole is a dirt road, to be distinguished from a 'white' road ie an un-madeup road full of boulders and stones. This is a drivaeable road, even though it is not tarmacked. Meals can be arranged at the 'cucina contadino', our private eaterie, at Villa Marianna, 1 mile away.

After the bustle of Rome this was a haven of peace and tranquility for our family of 6 (incl. 3 teens) for a week. On our own mountain, a 30 min. drive from Spoleto, we enjoyed seclusion, great views and the pool after days out in Todi, Spello, Assisi, Cascata del Marmore.
On our arrival in Spoleto Laurie was most obliging, meeting us at the CONAD supermarket, then leading us and our large load of groceries up the mountain road - 10.8 kms, then an unpaved road for 10 mins. This first drive was pretty daunting but we quickly became used to it.
All of our meals were at home, hence all the groceries. For this you need to be organized - there's no handy shop around the corner. Prices were reasonable, quality excellent. All were taken al fresco enjoying the views. All rooms (on ground floor) were spacious, clean and well laid out. I'm used to more counter space but the kitchen and its farmhouse table are large.
The 2 showers were strong with good temperature range, though perhaps they need updating. The videos and books relaxing. Though a family of owls, we fell into a pattern of rising and setting off early and returning in the afternoon when shops, businesses closed for siesta. The family swam, relaxed and enjoyed dinner on the terrace.
I would definitely recommend Posta del Sole to our friends. Thanks to Laurie for excellent customer service.
