Riad Salaam: Luxury house in Essouira's medina, 5 minutes from beach
Riad Salaam is a traditional open riad just off the main street in the bustling medina of Essauiora. Spread over 4 floors this 5 double-bedroom villa offers its guests a chance to relax in a quiet and peaceful environment under the African sky. The Riad is decorated in a simple Moroccan style whilst being fitted out with all the modern appliances expected from the European traveller. Heating is provided in the shape of 2 wood burning stoves that heat the entire house should the evening turn chilly. The bright roof terrace is exposed to sunlight and the sound of the sea all day, and has panoramic views and a small kitchenette. The central courtyard is built around a fountain and small garden to entice relaxation. The house is on a small, very quiet lane just off the main street, making it easy to find and accessible. It is just a 5 minute walk from the food market, Essaouira's restaurants and bars, the harbour and fish market, and of course Essaouira's 3 mile long beach.

The late-18th century fortified town of Essaouira is a UNESCO World Heritage Listed site. The town benefits from a laid back atmosphere, traditional architecture and small handicraft businesses such as wood carving and cabinet making. . It is considered to be the most liberal town in the country, due to its history of being on the 60s hippy trail and, according to locals, the inspiration for Jimi Hendrick’s Castles Made of Sand. There is a small fishing harbour with a daily fresh fish market, and a range of top quality fish restaurants. The town is on a sandy bay protected from the ocean by islands. Essaouira is also renowned for its windsurfing, and kite surfing, with several world-class clubs renting high-quality gear on a daily or weekly basis, or offering tuition. There are nearby villages to explore with on foot, camel or horseback.
