Photos and Description of this Livorno holiday apartment XVIII Century Period Building Overlooking Canals and Fortress

A charming, completely refurbished, fourth floor apartment, very quiet and comfortable. In the open space sitting room the new kitchen is tucked behind a brick glass wall and through the window there is a beautiful view of the town centre, nearby fortress (Fortezza Nuova) and canals. The ceilings are very high throughout, which is typical of Italian XVIII century buildings. The master bedroom is very spacious and the second bedroom is bright and comes with two bunk beds. There is a lift . The XVIII century period building is located in one of the biggest squares in Europe, Piazza Della Republica, in the town centre. The Piazza was built over one of the network of canals originally used by barges which would carry merchandise unloaded in the harbour further inland towards Florence. Leghorn also called the Riviera of the Etruscans, by virtue of the evident traces left by this people ,there is wonderful climate. Restaurants, pubs and markets are within walking distance

Appartment in piazza della republico, Livorno

Ladysmith Canada
Review Submitted: October 30, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We would highly recommend this appartment. The description was accurate and the property clean and well maintained. Three adults stayed in the appartment and found it an excellent way to visit the surrounding area. We were met by Gabriella and Franco at the airport in Pisa and were taken to the appartment via a short tour of Livorno. The appartment is larger than many we have stayed in and was well furnished and served well for cooking the odd evening meal as well as breakfasts. We had some trouble with the hot water system during our stay but that was being fixed when we departed. We were taken back to the airport at the end of our stay by our hosts. There are good views from the windows of the canal and piazza garibaldi. Even better views if you venture up a steep wooden stairway to the roof. We used the train to visit Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena and north to Monterroso in the World Heritage Chique Terra area where we walked one day. We used the local buses to get to the train station (route 1 quickest though route 2 also goes there) and also to the Santuary and funiclar railway at Monterroso (route 2). Also the train station is about 20 minutes walk. Train tickets on regional trains is inexpensive; Siena, our longest trip was about 12 euros single. Bus tickets can be purchased at the Tabac just a few doors down 12 tickets are 10 euro, great deal as they are good for a 75 minute trip. Remember that bus and train tickets must be validated in time stamping machines..... failure to do this on the trains can result in a big fine. Livorno is worth a visit......... the canal system, old churches etc and the cosmopolitan past from it being a free port.
We found two supermarkets......... the closest is along the canal from Piazza Garibaldi, close to the roundabout near via solferino, about 5 minutes. The other (seemed more expensive) was about 2 streets beyong Piazza Grande (where most busses pass through) along Via Grande towards the sea. Just outside the appartment is an ice cream shop, and close by are others including a good pastry shop.
Livorno seems overlooked as a place to stay by tourists though the tourist poplulation is swelled when cruise ships dock....... there were a couple including Carnival Dream in port while we were there. A small proportion of the cruisers seemed to be independent and using the buses and trains like we were.

Good value for money in central Livorno, Tuscany

Diana63 West Yorkshire
Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
The location of the apartment is very good, making it easy for commuting on the buses (bus stop at the top of the street) and to the train station also for town centre shopping.
The property was very clean and well maintained, shower was a bit dodgy running hot and cold but other than that it was an excellent apartment with every amenity that you could possibly require (washer, iron, hairdryer, sheets and towels galore).
The owner was lovely, friendly and helpful and her husband picked us up from the airport and took us back, which I thought was very thoughtful as we had not travelled to Livorno/Italy before.
Every day there are markets, one next to the apartment and the other a few streets away (near the cathedral).
Outside from the apartment is a lovely ice cream shop and coffee/drinking places with a small shop just around the corner for water and fresh bread.
Livorno is a bustling city with lovely historical buildings, Municipio (town hall), Cathedral and canal, the Piazza del Repubblica is a central spot for people to congregate in the evenings with seating around a large square with statues at either end (where the canal goes under the street).
For a first holiday to Italy it was lovely and I would personally recommend a visit.
The only downsides were the cost of goods, the pound was very poor, the exchange rate was £100 = 109e and food was quite expensive, having to pay for your seating on the beaches (15e) and the heat as there is no air conditioning.
However, you must visit Firenze (Florence) and Pisa if you like historical buildings, they are amazing, also the funicula railway at Montenerro.
Viareggio further up the coast was lovely, there is a delightful crepe shop on the front whose proprieter spoke excellent English and was very helpful, the food was good too!
It is an auatomated system to buy your train tickets which is brilliant, not having to wait in queues also you have to buy bus tickets prior to travel but dont forget to validate them when you get on the bus.
The tourist information office is in Via del Grande about 5 mins away from the apartment and from here the bus station is not far from Macdonalds, I can highly recommend the cappacino milkshake 1e, lush!
Have a wonderful time in Italy, arrivederci xx

Stylish but homely apartment in centre of Livorno

Yauser Cardiff
Review Submitted: June 25, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We are a family of 4 with 2 girls age 6 and 10 years. We were picked up from the airport when we arrived and driven to the apartment. Gabriella showed us around and settled us in and a welcome food pack was waiting for us with wine. The apartment is in the centre of Livorno, 5 minutes walk from the bus station and then a 10 minutes bus ride to the train station where we travelled to Pisa, Florence and Sienna, the trains were cheap and on time.
Livorno was very resonable in price compared to its more famous cousins but it did have a charm which grew on you and the local people were warm and friendly, especially with the children. The beaches were pebblely but could be reached by bus easily and cheaply, although the weather was a bit cloudy for the first few days, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the apartment and the area.

Lovely Holiday Home close to Pisa & Florence....

Review Submitted: June 18, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My family & I were picked up at the airport which made the experience stress-free. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful and also gave us some local produce as a welcome to Italy gesture which was really kind. Weather was beautiful and there was a fabulous Ice cream place just downstairs. Easy to get to both Pisa & Florence as well which I liked. All in all a great location and made to feel very welcome by the owners. Thumbs up!!

Holiday appartment in Livorno.

Skiff Prestwick, South Ayrshire
Review Submitted: June 4, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
My wife, daughter and I had a great time in Livorno.
The apartment is situated right in the heart of the town. Convenient for Livorno's attractions and a short taxi ride from the station.
Livorno is well situated for touring by car (as we did) or by train to Florence, Pisa, Lucca etc!
The apartment was excellent - clean and comfortable. The owners did everything to make us welcome. Particular thanks to 'Mr. Bruno' who was very helpful to us.
Grazie molte!
Brian S.
