Tuscany, self catering rental, ideal for 4 people

Our Italian cottage is located in Luscignano, a pretty medieval hamlet with stunning views over the Apuan Mountains on the edge of beautiful Tuscany.

The house is built on two levels and is fully equipped for your comfort. It is comprised of an entrance hall, two bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor; a further hall, dining/sitting room, kitchen and balcony on the first floor. The cottage is fully centrally heated but has a large open log fire for your enjoyment in autumn and winter.

The balcony is the perfect spot to have breakfast or to enjoy a glass of wine late in the afternoon or evening (table and chairs are provided). You can look down the valley across the olive groves where the locals can be seen working their land.

Adjacent to the front door is a small terraced area, where it is also particularly pleasant to sit and observe and be warmly greeted by villagers engaged in the Italian tradition of passeggiata (a gentle stroll through the streets of the old village).

Our small village of Luscignano sits atop a hill overlooking olive groves and vineyards. The towns of Casola (5kms) and Fivizzano (10kms) have all the shops & services one needs, including a small market and restaurants for every occasion!

Lunigiana is the area located in the northern part of Tuscany and is the 'finger' that protrudes into Ligura and Emilia The area remains relatively undiscovered and unspoiled but is ideally located to enjoy the splendours of Italy. Our cottage is only 1 hour from Pisa, 90 minutes from Florence, Parma and Bologna. The Cinque Terra, comprised of five extremely picturesque fishing villages is within easy travel and may be easily reached by boat from Lerici or La Spezia.

The landscape is scattered with castles built by the Malaspina family and the Lunigiana Museum of Natural History is located in the Brunella fortress at Aulla.

Local trattorie are inexpensive, the wine is plentiful and cheap and the villagers are warm and welcoming

'Unforgettable Place'

Dear Jennifer, John and Jan,

Thank you for a wonderful stay at the cottage. What an amazing time we have had and an unforgettable place to spend the beginning of our honeymoon. We loved walking around the village taking photos of the beautiful buildings and all the cats much to the amusement of the local villagers. We ventured to Casola when we arrived to the supermarket where the lady working there very patiently helped us find the things we needed in a mixture of italian and english!

We had 4 nights at the cottage after an eventful journey from Florence. We collected a car then discovered our GPS did not work so went in search of a road map. Map in hand we made it to Pisa only to get lost somewhere between the Autostrade and the other freeway (Fi-Pi-Li) for 2 hours! After accidently walking in on a vet surgery searching for directions and asking many locals we found our way eventually to Luscignano (total journey around 5 hours)!

We loved Fivizzano and Terenzano and found the restaurant just outside Casola delightful - Il Re di Macchia - we can highly recommend the lasagne and pannacotta! Driving to Aulla then training to Cinque Terre was a perfect day out. We found the tourist information centre at Fivizzano very helpful in researching train timetables etc. There is apparantly free internet there too however it was closed on the day we went there.

The cottage itself was very cosy and the balcony so perfect for enjoying breakfast each morning. It was a bit challenging getting the hot water and heating started (perhaps it hadn't been used in a while?) but we got it going eventually.

Remote little paradise

Have thoroughly enjoyed this remote little paradise, especially the balcony spotting red deer and boar. Loved looking through the novels and books which added to the Tuscan experience. Watched 'Under the Tuscan Sun', from the DVD collection, again. Coffee machine and new washing machine definately got a work out

Sound of silence is golden

What a great week in a very comfortable house. The views over the valley are beautiful and the sound of silence (broken only occasionally by the shots of hunters)is golden. Great to get a real double bed after all the singles pushed together.
