The beaches in Palamos are magnificent. There is always plenty of space in which to find a spot, and the headlands on either side protect the beach from the worst sea conditions, which means it is safe to swim, sail and relax in the refreshing, clean waters of the Mediterranean. Along much of the beach, bars, restaurants and cafes spill revellers onto the sands, creating a great atmosphere of fun and relaxation, but if you need a little peace, there is plenty of that to be found too! Just a short walk from the main tourist beach will take you to a region of rocky cove beaches in Palamos, where you can almost ensure that you will not be disturbed for many hours. These little cove beaches of Cala Margarida, Cala Canyers and Cala S’Alguer are also great places to dive or snorkel.

The old fishing port of Palamos is a fantastic place to meet. There are many great little restaurants and cafes looking across the bay, watching the coloured fishing boats returning with their catch. The morning fish markets around the harbour are a hive of activity, and it is from here that you can organise sailing excursions, hire diving equipment and choose from a huge selection of water sports.

Palamos is home to a number of interesting monuments too. The views from the Plaza Murada are quite exceptional, and from here you can see across to the Church of Santa Maria del Mar, the Church of Santa Eugenia de Villarroma and the impressive, medieval Sant Esteve Castle. The ancient archaeological ruins of Platjja del Castell are also well worth exploring from any self catering Palamos accommodation.

Palamos is located in a very rural region of the Costa Brava, and as a result, the opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding through the unspoilt Spanish countryside are limitless. There are route maps available from the Palamos tourist information centre, and bikes and horses are available from various locations around the town.

The nearby Medes Islands Underwater Natural Reserve is an amazing place to visit, especially if you have snorkelling or diving equipment with you. Sailing around the seven islands is a great experience, but the closer you can get to the amazing biological diversity which is maintained within the reserve, the more impressed and inspired you will undoubtedly become.
