The village also has good transport links, meaning whether you decide to head out and explore the delights of Lucca, Pisa, Florence or simply the remainder of the mountainous Garfagnana region you have plenty of options. Things to do in Piazza al Serchio, Italy
The name ‘Piazza al Serchio’ originates from the town’s position close to the high basin of the Serchio River. The river, as well as nearby Lake Gramalazzo are delightful places for a spot of swimming or relaxation on the waterside, and taking a picnic and a bottle of local wine has long been a popular choice.
Piazza al Serchio is a traditional Italian village, and the perfect place to practice your Italian skills. You should not expect English to be widely spoken in the area – this part of Tuscany is far from overrun with foreign tourists after all – but you can expect a warm welcome from the friendly locals, and to return with more knowledge of the local lingo than you arrived with.
All of the eating options in Piazza al Serchio can be reached on foot from the village’s holiday rental accommodation, meaning if you fancy a meal and a few drinks in the local restaurant you will not have to worry about getting a taxi to and from the eatery. Eating-out options in Piazza al Serchio include a snack bar for panini’s and coffee, a pizzeria and two traditional Italian restaurants that serve a variety of pasta dishes and local favourites.
