The Ecological Sanctuary of Pipa makes for an excellent day trip and is the largest of its type in the state. These include Natal, 80km north along the coast, which is the state capital and attracts over two million visitors every year with its modern infrastructure and tourist attractions. Natal is in the process of building a new international airport, but until then visitors to Pipa are best advised to fly to Augusto Severo International Airport (NAT), which is 70km from Pipa and 11km outside of Natal. Flight time from the UK and much of Europe is around 19 hours.
