Playa de las Americas has a water park, two casinos, a carting track, many health spas and even bungee jumping facilities, so there is plenty to keep an entire family happy on a holiday to Playa de las Americas even before you find the beaches. There are three natural beaches and three artificial beaches at Playa de las Americas, all covered in black volcanic sand, where sunbathing, volleyball or games of frisbee can be played. There are also ample provisions for jet skiing, windsurfing and scuba diving. Further out to sea, you can take a boat excursion to see whales and dolphins or to take advantage of the magnificent deep sea for blue marlin, yellow fin tuna, mako and hammerhead sharks.

Another popular activity on a Playa de las Americas holiday is to climb Mount Teide, the volcano in the centre of Tenerife. If the climb sounds too strenuous for a holiday activity, you do not have to miss the dramatic views as there is a cable car which can drop you off 200m from the summit.

There are also two golf courses at Playa de las Americas, and a variety of standard of courses on the island, so finding a challenging course should not be a problem.

The night life in Playa de las Americas is loud and lively, with karaoke, cocktail and cabaret bars as well as a variety of restaurants, pubs and clubs. The most popular clubs for dance and R&B music are Rags and Linakers, but there are nightclubs for all tastes here.

For shopping, Playa de las Americas has a huge range of duty-free shops, especially electricals and you can pick up some real bargains. The Torviscas Market on a Thursday and Saturday is a haggler’s paradise, and Playa de las Americas is only an hour from the famous clothes shops of Santa Cruz.
