Make a holiday rental home or villa in Playa Honda, Spain your home away from home

Not to be confused with its namesake, Playa Honda in Lanzarote, Playa Honda in mainland Spain lies at the bottom point of the Mar Menor – once described as the “largest swimming pool in the world”. With the benefits of the great year-round weather which the Costa Calida is famous for, this small town offers a great beach destination, offering excellent tourist facilities and day trip opportunities, whilst at the same time keeping its traditional Spanish village feel.

Things to do in Playa Honda, Spain

Playa Honda is just a short walk from the sandy beach of Playa Paraiso and the warm, shallow waters of the Mar Menor, which can reach up to 30C in temperature during summer months. The high salinity of this lagoon makes it an excellent area for all manner of water sports. It is also famous for its black mud, which is said to have healing properties for ailments such as arthritis and rheumatism.

From the beach it is also possible to take in the fantastic sea views over the La Manga Strip, a 24km long stretch that is just 300 metres wide and separates the Man Menor from the Mediterranean Sea, and is home to a number of bars, nightclubs, shops, cafes and restaurants. The strip makes for a great option for a night out, and there is no need to take the car, as it is just a short taxi ride away.

Despite its popularity Playa Honda retains an authentic Spanish village feel, and has a small selection of tapas bars, cafeterias, family businesses and small food shops in its centre. Hiring a bicycle is a great way to explore the area, and a newly-built cycle lane runs all the way to (and through) La Manga.
