The Cala Mercal beach is the main beachfront area in Porto Colom, the perfect place for a spot of sunbathing or to relax with a book. The warm water temperatures along the east coast also make it the ideal spot for a dip in the ocean, with calm waters ideal for swimming.
Near to the beach there are also plenty of cafes and restaurants, where visitors can sample local seafood dishes as well as international fare. Although not as lively as some of the other resorts along the coast, Porto Colom nightlife is still good during the summer, with many of featuring family-friendly entertainment.
A small but unique collection of shops along the promenade are also worth a browse, and can be a great place to pick up a few holiday souvenirs.
The fact that Porto Colom is a fishing village means that it is the ideal destination for any keen fishermen, with several operators offering fishing charters. Other leisurely activities including golf and tennis can also be found close to the resort.
The scenery around the east coast of Mallorca is quite picturesque and there are several pleasant walking and cycling tracks around the town which can be easily reached from self-catering accommodation in and around Porto Colom.

The capital of Mallorca, Palma, is only just over a half hour drive from Porto Colom and is well worth a day trip. The Gothic cathedral is one of the highlights for many visitors, along with the Palau de Almudaina, a Moorish palace which now serves as the Majorcan residence of the Spanish royal family.

One of the main reasons Mallorca is so popular as a summer holiday destination is thanks to the predictable summer weather, which sees temperatures in the mid twenties and very little rain. Porto Colom therefore makes an ideal summertime destination, but can also be a pleasant winter escape, with temperatures usually staying above 10C even in January and February.

Palma International Airport (PMI) serves the island of Mallorca, and is located around 60km west of Porto Colom. Most of the major British airlines fly to this airport direct from the UK, including British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair, many on a daily basis over the summer months. Even for those staying in a villa, Porto Colom can then be reached easily by shuttle bus, although car hire is also available from the airport.
