Casa San Gabriel - a place for everyone

Over the last few years we've stayed in all of Chrissie and David's properties, and very good they all are too. Best of all, though, is the friendly care and attention the hosts give you, making you feel really at home. Add to that a great swimming pool with an unbelievable view, and you have the recipe for a really memorable holiday! Couldn't be better located, either, with Assisi nearby, Perugia, Gubbio and much more. We even managed Florence, Rome and Siena on day trips out. We took our son Hugh with us, and he too had a really great time - swimming, playing with Cuba the Dog, and helping make pizzas on the legendary pizza nights. We can really heartily recommend Casa San Gabriel - a great holidayfor adults and kids alike.

Casa San Gabriel A nice place to go to

Review Submitted: November 17, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2007
if you follow the travel instructions down to the letter you will get there no worries. We got lost one night while there & went itno a local café in UmberTide for help ... a man got into his car & took us back home with a smile. The 3 cottages are very well set out & looked after & we liked finding a basic supply of food & drink awaiting us on arrival. We would certainly recommend this operation !!!
A very extensive brochure is provided with things to do, places to visit & restaurants
Places of interest like Perugia, Sienne & Assisi are esay to get to If you play golf then the 18 hole course is quite difficult & a real eye-opener

I came for 2 days and stayed for a week!

Review Submitted: November 15, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
I was told by a fellow traveller about Casa San Gabriel and called them on short notice to see if I could stay. Chrissie and David were most welcoming and did everything a gracious host could do. As I was alone Chrissie and David offered me the opportunity to join in on several activities that they had on offer (Pizza NIght was a favorite!), but they also took me along with them to a community dinner in Pierantonio to celebrate the towns gils who had won a volleyball tournament. It was the best Italian food I have ever had and an experience I will never forget! My stay happened to also coincide with the World Cup in Italy in 2006 and David happily included me iand some other guests in s few trips into town to watch Italy play. I cannot decide which was best, the atmosphere or the gelato! Chrissie also told me about a flower festival in Spoleto which was something I never would have known about, but so glad I was able to attend. Fantastic.

So I imagine you are thinking, 'that is great, but I just want to relax!' That you can my friend! My little cottage La Stella was perfect for me (and I plan to take my husband there in the future for a romantic getaway). It is a beautiful stone cottage with the most spectacular views across the valley. I loved making up my meals in the efficient kitchen and taking them out onto the stone terrace with a good book and a glass of local wine. Chrissie and David do everything they can to make you feel welcome including setting you up with the basics so you can have a nice breakfast along with your REAL ITALIAN EXPRESSO! The valley is not only lovely to admire from above, but my walk down into it revealed old stone buildings and beautiful fields of wildflowers. I never made it to the castle across the valley, but I had to leave something for the next time I go. Would I recommend this property? Yes, Yes, anytime you have the opportunity Yes!

P.S. A car is kind of essential

Unbelievable Umbria!

We stayed for a little over a week at Casa San Gabriel, and we rate as one of our best holidays ever.

We found the website to be very accurate, and helpful during the booking process.

We ended up flying into Pisa (due to flight availability etc), but this worked well, as we arrived late, stayed one night in a hotel, did sightseeing the next morning (including the "Lean over Tower of Pisa" as described by our 3 year old son) before collecting our rental car and driving on to Casa San Gabriel.

We stayed in Il Fienile, as it had two bedrooms, and this suited us. Jack loved his downstairs room (with bunk beds) and we liked that the room could be kept quite dark to encourage any possible sleep-ins! The loft space bedroom upstairs was lovely, and overlooked the dining/lounge. We now have a 2nd son and hope to return and use the same house.

The accommodation was clean, well thought out, furnished nicely, high quality linens and fittings. The outdoor patio areas were well designed, so we didn't overlook/infringe on the privacy of the other cottages. Little touches like freshly baked bread, advice with day trips and suitability for kids, lending us toys and books for our son, etc etc - all contributed to a wonderful break. Chrissie and David are such lovely people, they made us feel more like friends/family, than clients.

We loved the stunning views, peaceful setting, yet still located so you can do day trips to Assisi, Perugia, Spello, Spoleto etc. With some help and advice from Chrissie, we even managed to get the train to Florence for a day trip - which we'd highly recommend, even with young kids! Jack's highlight was the gelati and David "the man with no clothes on" at the Academia.

We have recommended this property to friends and family over the past 2 years, and will continue to do so and hope to return soon.

You sit on the terrace, sip the local wine and gaze down one of the most beautiful and unspoilt valleys in Umbria, which tumbles down beneath you towards Assisi. Then the sun sets and the stars come out. For natural beauty, tranquillity, warmth (of the weather and of the welcome) and repose, you could not do better than go to Casa San Gabriel. I heartily recommend it to everyone.

Casa San Gabriel is the only holiday property we have been to more than once, and we have stayed in La Cantina and La Stalla to equal pleasure. If you want peace, comfort and stunning views, and want to escape modern stresses for a while, look no further. On a clear evening you can look straight down the valley towards Assisi, with the sun glinting on the basilica of St Francis over 20 miles away. The view is even better from the pool which sits hidden away above the properties. Chrissie, David the children (and let's not forget Cuba )are delightful hosts with really great knowledge about the best places to visit (which are not always the best known), and are quite unobtrusive or happy to join in and entertain whichever you want. The property is off the beaten track: the road down really is the only negative, but is easily negotiated in a car with average road clearance! This does help keep the property secluded - you will scarcely hear any traffic. Otherwise, road communications are excellent, with the junction at Pierantonio quickly taking you to the autostrada. You can be parked up in Perugia in approx 30 mins, and Lago di Trasimeno is a similar distance away. Casa San Gabriel's location near to Umbria's border with Tuscany border means you are able to experience the best of both regions very easily, with many wine regions and good restaurants to suit all pockets located nearby. We are certain to return.

Didnt know what to expect before we arrived but was blown away by the setting and especially the view through the valley to Assisi.

Chrissie and Dave were the perfect hosts, there when you needed them for suggested day trips or local walks but equally happy to give us some space.

Lovely boutique apartments that have a rustic feel but keep very warm on colder nights.

We have already booked for next year!

It's so wonderful that my husband and I have been back 5 times at least! The cottages are simple but perfect, the view is fabulous and the location is ideal for easy trips round Umbria - Assisi, Gubbio, The lake etc which are all very close by. Chrissie and David are fantastically hospitable - from the complimentary bottle of wine waiting for you when you arrive to their fabulous Pizza evenings. A wonderful place to stay - whether for a quick break or a family holiday. 10/10

We had a wonderful stay and have been back subsequently. Chrissie And David, the proprietors, are really nice, and can make sure you get the best of the area. The pool is gorgeous and the cottage was perfect for our needs - and very comfortable. We'll be back again!
