August stay at Manzara

Lemon hunters London
Review Submitted: September 7, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We were delighted to find that Manzara looked even better than the photos on the website, because the garden has further matured and is full of greenery/scents/colour and very private. Given we were staying in late August, the pool became a vital accessory rather than a luxury! The position of the house is marvellous, with wide views from balconies on both the ground and upper floors, so breakfast and evening drinks were spent on different levels to enjoy the sunsets and the shade. We particularly liked the fact that this house felt like a family home rather than a holiday let, with correspondingly comprehensive equipment and a mini-library. Everything worked well and was in good condition. Barbara manages the property very well - she visited just the first morning which was perfect. The owners were also most helpful with their responses to emails before we left. The house is in a great location - it is much preferable to be in the hills of Bellapaix than down in the heat of Kyrenia, and it was astonishingly quiet - perhaps we were lucky that not many of the neighbours seemed to be there at the same time as us. Many of the historic sites were within an hour's drive or less and extremely interesting. And the local people are charming and very friendly. Different colour neighbouring cats visit occasionally, plus a hedgehog at night! If I am totally honest, I would say that the restaurants we tried in Bellapaix itself were rather touristy - with mainly English guests, but Kyrenia has a big choice and other local villages are easily reached by car. Buying local produce and eating in was a great pleasure anyway - and we used the BBQ. I should add that the village store is pretty good for most things, including delicious bread, charcoal, and watercooler bottles, and even cheaper than some of the larger supermarkets: the young owner was more than helpful. I only wish I had bought stamps from Barbara's shop (in the next door village) as I could not get them anywhere! As you can tell, we had a really enjoyable holiday, and a lot of that is due to the fact that this is a special, well-loved villa.

A great getaway in October

Review Submitted: November 24, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We had a lovely holiday at the villa with 5 adults and 5 children under 5 yrs old for 1 week on Oct-09.

The villa is well equiped and comfortable, with additional cots & high chairs being provided by the owners. The pool & surrounding area was nice and clean, with sun loungers and a very handy BBQ.

The terrace has far reaching views down the hill and made a very relaxed lunch spot. The hammock provided much amusement for the children and adults alike.

The village is a 10 minute walk or short drive and has some great places to eat.

A good all round villa and spot, great value for money.

After one week, none of us wanted to go home!

More a Palace than a Villa!

The 8 in our party, including 2 children, were able to lose one another in this spacious, spotless, well kept & exceptionally equipped property. We hope to return, perhaps with 10 people. Descriptions were accurate in all respects. The owners were extremely helpful with relevant information both before our arrival and in the form of guidance notes within the villa.
The views are stunning, especially at night. It is but a short uphill walk to the delightful village of Bellapais where you find the local shop and a dozen or so restaurants (try Bella Moon for a great welcome and mezze, and Pasha for an inexpensive truly Turkish experience). A visit to St Hilarion Castle (part of the night-time vista) is a must but take sturdy shoes ! Most of the beaches nearby to the west (25 mins drive) are moderately good commercial ones charging about £5 pp - if you can drive east to the Turtle Beach and even better Kaplica (just over an hour) it will be more rewarding. The town of Kyrenia (15 mins) is quite enchanting (traffic apart), especially around the harbour, and you must eat at least once in Niazi's (last experienced over 40 years ago in Limassol and still as good, if more upmarket!). Car hire is essential if you want to get the best out of the area. The owners put us on to Bellapais Car Rental whose service was exemplary and included timely, efficient, comfortable airport transfers. They provided a people carrier which took all 8 of us with shopping.
We give this property and its owners a very strong reccommendation.

enjoyable stay in Manzara

Villa Manzara was accurately described , spacious, well appointed , well maintained and very well equipped . The owners gave comprehensive information and an excellent service including arranging for our pick-up from and return to , Larnaca airport and reasonable car-hire. Some interesting things to see such as castles, Kyrenia harbour, old Famagusta etc and some nice beaches although there were also some beaches which were unkempt, underdeveloped and without facilities. We had a great time a lot of which was to do with the high quality of our villa with its bougainvillea-surrounded swimming pool near the beautiful village of Bellepais in the hills overlooking Kyrenia.

Lovely spot

Thoroughly endorse what other reviewers have said. Beautiful villa, lovely large & well maintained pool, & gorgeous garden - lots of Bougainvillea. We were only 5, so plenty of room but even with 8 people you wouldn't be cramped. The short uphill walk to Bellapais was cheered up by a local man who, having broken his leg, spent his days sitting on his balcony saying hello to anyone who passed - and "sleep nicely" to us on our way back after dinner.
Restaurants in Bellapais all a bit samey though (Kybele a bit better than the others) but the Kyrenia Tavern/ Pasabahce in Kyrenia is just a short drive and in a different league to the rest - authentic rather than 5 star!
St Hilarion castle can be seen from the villa - well worth a visit, though there's a lot of climbing & best done as early as possible to avoid the heat.
Owners' agent was very helpful, the car hire company delivered and collected to/from the villa and and us to/from Larnaka efficiently.
We had a great time and throughly recommend Manzara.

Perfect location but you must have a car. Villa beautiful with wonderful views. Lots of interesting places to visit and things to do-highlight for us was the boat trip we took and tandem paragliding-seriously breath taking and not in the least scary!

Manzara Review

Lol A Manchester
Review Submitted: August 14, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We are two families that have recently stayed at Manzara Villa. There were 4 adults and 5 teenagers. The villa was lovely, just as described. It was very spacious and there were even rooms we did not use. Every facility that you could need is there. The water cooler in the kitchen was brilliant.
The DVD & WIFI connection were a fantastic addition and kept the kids amused on the rare occasions that they had had enough of the pool. They especially liked the hammock, many a book was read here and as soon as it was vacated, someone else jumped in!
We all loved the barbeque & pool area and there was plenty of room for us all. From the wall around the pool you can see the Abbey and St Herilion castle which are both lit up at night, very pretty.
Bellapais village is tiny but delightful. Many of the restaurants will collect you from the villa and take you back after your meal for no charge, fantastic! Several of the restaurants as well as the Abbey also have spectacular views. We especially enjoyed our meal in Bellapais Gardens, small but good food & great view.
Kyrenia harbour is only about 10 mins drive away and is great to eat at or just stroll around at night. Try the Italian in the arbour, go to the tables on the roof, great view!
Unless you want a very lazy holiday we would recommend a car.The hire car company recommended by the owners is very reliable, they collected us from and returned us to the airport and we hired 2 cars from them.

The owners Colin & Vivienne were fantastic, very helpful and informative and replied promptly to our many emails. We had a couple of appliance malfunctions but this in no way detracted from our enjoyment. We would definately recommend this villa to our family & friends.

Fantastic Villa, Brilliant Location!

Review Submitted: November 17, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
Recently returned from a wonderful week in villa Manzara.

Positives:

- All areas of the villa are private with lush vegitation (alot of the villas in North Cyprus are quite barren and open)
- Pool is very large and well maintained
- House has everything you possibly need during the week (inflatables, cooking utensils, spices, excellent welcome pack)
- Bellapais village is a short 10min walk away which isn't short of nice restaurants and bars.
- Extremely good value for money
- All rooms have air-conditioning, balconies and mosquito nets!
- Surrounding area is quiet, but with a car everything is within easy reach.

Negatives

- None

Marvellous holiday, loved your beautiful home.

We had a marvellous holiday, loved your beautiful home and the island as a whole. It was a bit hot (45 degrees recorded one day on the beach!) but we still managed to climb to the top of St Hilarion, enjoy a sea trip, sleep on the beach waiting for turtles to hatch, eat loads, drink many brandy sours and EFES and, in my case, manage a bit of snoozing by the pool as well! The kids enjoyed painting and sketching flowers and lizards and we did some hilarious treasure hunts around the garden - sorry if you find the odd squares of paper with clues left unfound at some future date! Probably read something like "You are being watched - to escape swim 20 lengths, do a handstand and drink the pink drink hidden underneath the passion flowers!"

We really appreciated your very clear laminated instruction sheets next to every gadget. Made life very easy and will probably save you loads of breakages! Also everything was very clean, Barbara very helpful when the water ran out and the pump stopped working, and the gardener and pool team did their jobs efficiently and unobtrusively.

For info: My husband did a couple of days sailing at Diana Beach and found them very friendly. We enjoyed meals at Bella Pais Gardens and the Address and also had a takeaway from Niazis - they said they would deliver next time. Might be worth knowing ...

Owner's Response: This is how to make the most of your trip to Northern Cyprus! There seemed to be something for everyone to enjoy, as there is a wide variety of local activities to suit all ages while staying at Manzara
