Fun for family and friends

Review Submitted: June 3, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
I’ve just had a great time at the yellow house with my family and friends. The house is good because there are plenty of rooms so I didn’t have to sleep in a room with my older brother:) Also the rooms have good window shutters so I could sleep in without being woken up by lots of light. I really like the table tennis and football tables because I made a tournament for the everybody with them and won both! The swimming pool is big and good for inflatables. I liked the restaurant next to ‘Sosty’ (the supermarket) because the pizzas there were massive and delicious. I liked the yellow house a lot; I had lots of things to do and enjoyed my stay.
Owner's Response: Dear Jez, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Yellow House (I hope your brother did too!) St Michaele is the restaurant next to Sosty - I quite agree their pizzas are fab.

My Perfect Holiday

Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
I have been to the Yellow House three times. Each time I have had a wonderful holiday. The location of the house is perfect in that you have the peace and beauty of the countryside and yet there is so much to do and see in the area without having to travel far. One of the best attractions for me are all the amazing and reasonably priced restaurants (and of course the huge variety of ice-cream - I can thoroughly recommend banana and coconut as the ideal combination)!

The house itself is very spacious and has a really rustic feel while also being very comfortable, clean and well maintained. And the swimming pool is huge, around which I spent many happy hours reading. I would definately return to the Yellow House for another blissful holiday.
Owner's Response: Dear 12nicknames, I'm so glad you enjoyed your 3rd stay at The Yellow House and hope you'll have more opportunities to stay. Keep an eye out for changes to the website as we are planning a renovation this winter. Thank you for the ice-cream recommendation! Emma

Return to the Yellow House

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
I have recently returned from my second week's stay at the Yellow House having previously visited in 2007.Each visit has been in May when the surrrounding countryside has been lush & verdant. A week away from it all with amazing views from the bedrooms & not a soul in sight yet only a 10 minute walk from an amazing medieval hillside town with twisty stone alleyways to explore on foot & lovely small friendly shops-the hardware shop is a treasure trove & the baker really helpful supplying delicious bread & fresh dough which we cooked in the outdoor pizza oven for a party of 20 one night, eating by lamplight under the oak tree. It is easy to walk to excellent local resaurants & to explore the countriside though a car is necessary to travel further afield-we spent a day at Lake Bolsena-jogging round it [22km] swimming & on pedallos- & caught the train to Rome on the one wet day [about an hour]. The driveway appears to have been resurfaced-no problems there. Kalle, while not at all intrusive, was helpful & dealt with any enquiries we had- a German fluent in English & Italian with a great dry sense of humour.
The propery lived up to expectations from the photos-the pool is particularly impressive being big enough to enjoy a decent swim in. We found the kitchen more than adequately equipped with an attractive farmouse feel to it.The beds were v comfortable.
I would certainly like to go back there for another week when my batteries need recharging & have recommended it to several friends.
Owner's Response: Dear Welsh Rarebit, so glad you enjoyed your second stay at The Yellow House and hope you'll be back. Thank you for your postive comments. Emma

A totally relaxing week

Review Submitted: June 3, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We’ve just returned from our fifth trip to Yellow House. It was as beautifully peaceful as ever, with its combined ingredients of sunshine, perfect temperature pool, comfortable sunbeds, dappled shade under the oak trees, sounds of birds and crickets, delicious food and wine from the local markets and restaurants, and quiet nights in cool, clean rooms with blackout shutters that promote restorative lie-ins.
We're keen cooks and found everything (and more) that we needed in the kitchen to prepare meals - even catering for 20 one night. The wood pile was fully stocked and a welcome pack of food and drink was provided (for a modest fee) because of our Sunday arrival.
The approach to the house has been newly widened and gravelled and there’s now a mown path down to the stream, where we paddled and sat on the rocks dangling our feet in the water and watching the butterflies and dragonflies.
It’s hard to tear oneself away from the tranquillity of the house and its pool, but we did once or twice in order to discover a pretty circular walk through fields and around vineyards. Lake Bolsena provides a great day out - we ate freshly caught fish in Bolsena town after a browse round the market and then sunbathed, swam and rented a pedalo at Capodimonte.
I love the fact that at the Yellow House everyone can escape – from the demands of computers and phones, from traffic and noise – to a simpler life where you can read, play games, eat pizza made in your own wood fired oven, or eat spit-roasted pork and local salad al fresco with a group of friends in the cool of the evening. Five visits just aren’t enough!
Owner's Response: Wow Sarah, what lovely positive comments, I am so delighted that you enjoyed your stay, you've really captured the essence of the Yellow House and I do hope you will be able to visit again. Emma

When we go to the Yellow House - and we go as often as we can - our favourite thing to do is to sit and read under the spreading oak tree by the back door while sipping a glass of the excellent Sergio Mottura's wine. Our boys would argue that the gelateria in Bagnoreggio has it over the oak tree, others might propose the mediaval attractions of Bolsena, Orvietto or Civeta. And there is, of course, the luxuriously huge pool. But I think they're missing the point. Tranquility is hard to come by. But it can be found under the oak tree at the Yellow House.
Owner's Response: Thank you Tim S. So, you've tasted the Mottura wine too........... I hope you enjoy some more peace, tranquility and wine under the oak tree in 2009.

The Yellow House

Road-Tripsters Buckinghamshire, England
Review Submitted: October 10, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
I travelled with 10 other members of my family across Europe this summer, spending one week at the Yellow House. It is stunning ! A beautiful house with lots and lots of space... no cramping with 11 of us there.... room for more infact! The house had great facilities and everything you needed in a kitchen to be self sufficient. The pool was magnificent and BIG, loads of sun loungers, space and shade in areas if you wanted it.... A quiet and beautiful location with shops and services a short drive away made it the perfect place for us all to have fun, relax and laugh. No near neighbours meant we could totally relax without worrying that we would disturb anyone else with all our children. The owners of the Yellow House are fantastic to deal with and I will certainly be going back again. Absolutely NO negatives about this villa... go and enjoy a truly glorious location and classic house.
Owner's Response: Dear Road-Tripsters, I'm so glad that you were able to use The Yellow house as a "recovery" post for your European tour, I hope you recharged your batteries for the journey home. The house will be ready for your return trip, whenever that is...............

OK house, nice surroundings

Review Submitted: October 6, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
We just stayed there some days, seven people with four children +/- 10 years old.
When we arrived we contacted Kalle, who is the man taking care of the house, and he guided us there. The road down to the house is in a really bad condition, so actually you should be sure to get a car that has good distance from ground.
Kalle arrived and did'nt seem very interested in helping us. We asked about the river where it is said to be trout, and he said he didnt know of any river near the house, and if there was some, it certainly did not have any fish.
We also had to "beg" to get wood for the oven outside.

The house is plain, and contains just enough to make food for ten people, but the table in the kitchen is small and cant take more than eigth at the same time. The standard we consider as low, and there was a terrible smell from the bathroom, where there seemed to be a problem with the water flushing from the bath tub.

But the surroundings are nice and quiet, and the pool is big and refreshing. The town nearby is small but nice, and the pizza bar just up the streets are excellent. The old town with the hotel and restaurant are also maginificent, and Sergio Mottura is both a good winemaker and a very nice and gentle person.

So, considering the price, compared to the quality, this is definately not a bargain. But if you are looking for a quiet place with simple standard, it is an OK option.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the trouble to write your comments about the Yellow House, we really do take note of them and make changes where possible, some things we can change but some, I'm afraid we can't. You make some interesting and surprising points and I will try and address them all:
(1) The drive to the house - yes this is a very old country lane, we think it adds charm to the experience of driving to the house, it is perfectly safe and for the past 7 years we have always managed very easily with ordinary cars.
(2) Kalle didn't seem interested in helping you - I am very sorry to hear this, he is usually very helpful, I will look into this when we visit next week.
(3) Wood for the oven - this has not been a problem before, we try to arrange for wood to be available when guests arrive, I'm sorry this was not the case.
(4) The river - Kalle is correct there is no river - but as stated on the website there is a stream at the bottom of the field which does have trout (my brother is a keen fisherman and has caught them there as well as other fish), the stream runs all the way along the valley, I hope you found it in the end.
(5) Kitchen - you say there is just enough (I'm not sure what) for making food for 10 people, this is a comment I cannot understand - I have catered for huge parties and on a regular basis 14 people during a family holiday. I visit the house regularly and check that the kitchen is well stocked.
(6) We could put in a much bigger table but we prefer it the way it is. We usually prepare food inside and eat outside under the oak tree where there is a huge stone table. If the weather is not good enough and we are a party of more than 8, we move another table into the kitchen, either from the sitting room or one of the trestle tables in the pump room. This is also stated on our website.
(7) Smell from bathroom - thank you for pointing this out, this is a new problem and we will get a plumber to investigate this.
(8) "The house is plain", this is of course a matter of opinion, we think it is beautiful, simple and classic. As it says on the website - it is simply decorated and furnished. We have photographed the house and all the rooms, we have shown a true and accurate representation on the website for all to see.
(9) Your comment about the price for the Yellow House is surprising, we know that it is competetive for the area and we have not increased the price for 3 years.

We didn't want to leave!!

Review Submitted: September 1, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our second stay in the Yellow House was just as good as the first. This year we tended to stay at home and make the most of the sunshine and the pool. We really enjoyed the tranquility of the house, the only noise was the crickets which was duly recorded for use as a ring tone - the sound brings back such good memories. During our stay we did visit the Monster Park - wow! We were truly amazed by the size of the statues it is well worth a visit and not far from the villa. We amused ourselves by making our own dough for pizzas and firing up the pizza oven, I'm still practicing the spinning part, maybe I'll get it right next year. We had the most relaxing time at the Yellow House and although there is plenty see and things to do in the area I would recommend taking advantage of the peace and quiet and simply relax in the sunshine and take a dip in the pool when you get too hot then after dinner take your lemoncello up by the pool for some star gazing until it's time for bed. You won't want to leave.
Owner's Response: Dear Yellow House lovers, you've really captured the essence of the Yellow House - we love it too. Intrigued to hear about the Italian cricket ring tone - that's a first. I am so glad to hear that your second trip to the Yellow House was such a success - will there be a third I wonder?

The yellow house

It was really good, staying at the yellow house.
The area we were in was really nice, and had a cool town near it which had pizza and other things.

It was very quiet in the mornings and you could stay in bed for ages.

The pool was great and provided lots of entertainment and is good for everyone to play in, or you could just stay by it and read.
Owner's Response: Thank you Ben, good to hear that teenagers like the house as well as the grown ups.

Arrived 14th June 2008 at the Yellow House which totally exceeded our expectations. It is set in beautiful surroundings with closeby to a quaint village which has everything you need. Two couples and 3 children aged 6 months, 3 years and 7 years had lots of fun and spent alot of time in the large pool and ate lots off pizza cooked in the pizza oven! We visited Viterbo, Orvieto and lake Bolsena and did a day trip to Rome but our favorite times were spent relaxing at the house. A definite must is to go to L'Tana Dell Istrice in the village where a fantastic Host Sergio Mottura will let you sample his wines and prepare you a fantastic lunch, Will definitley be back soon!!!!!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your positive comments. We were delighted to hear that your experience at The Yellow House was such a positive one and that you plan to come back. We'll keep The Yellow House in the condition to which you have become accustomed! With best wishes, Emma
