Our second week in Ireland. We figured that we could never top the first week...wrong oh so. Shannonview was a HOME and so wonderful. Beautiful unsurpassed setting, comfort, horses sheep donkeys cows nearby, beautiful gardens; easy driving to ennis, doolin, cliffs, beaches, towns............what a week what a week, what an adventure!! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. Not a negative anywhere.... oh, cept when the grass was cut. I really was enjoying walking barefoot in the long grass! lol. Tommy and Mary were wonderful!!!!!!
What a RIDE. We hope to be back next year.
A MUST STAY FOR EVERYONE!!

Authentic Irish Experience

Strategic1 Southern CA, USA
Review Submitted: September 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We deliberately sought a cottage or house that would feel real, have the strengths and perhaps limitations, of living in a country setting that would give us a deeper connection to being in Ireland. We were attracted to the Shannonview House because of the Shannon River across the street, the smallness of Labasheeda, and its proximity to a host of attractions that would take us easily to destinations along the western coast, as well as to other cities.

The house description was accurate and we were delighted to have use of their washer and dryer, fully-stocked library, games and CD player (we brought our own favorites and loved music at night sitting at the DR table or on the bench outside the front door admiring the moon or stars over the river). The beds were comfortable (a big plus) and the three of us vying for the full bath upstairs was very manageable. There is another toliet reached by going outside and opening a door into a closed room next to the house. It is an authentic Irish 20th century experience and it worked for us.

The country lane nearby with beautifully stone-walled meadows -- some containing cows -- the quiet seclusion of the house, the chance to see rainbows over the Shannon were great early morning or evening relaxations. During the day we headed out to fabulous attractions the western coast provides. Rain didn't keep us home because somewhere along the coast or inlaid it isn't raining and we went there. If the house was musty, we opened windows and the front door. We used china in the breakfast nook, found what we needed in the kitchen to cook when we felt like it and found the house a comfortable base. Watching the Tour of Ireland one night on TV led us to decide to go to Cork the next day for the finish.

The challenge of driving on the left on narrow lanes is true in the west and most of Ireland and not for the chicken-hearted, but by doing so it opened up vistas of beauty that will be part of us forever. We treasured driving on the Dingle Peninsula and going to the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Cong, way up in County Mayo, enjoyed nearby Ennis, catching the market in Limerick and so much else. Labasheeda offers a small market attached to the pub, the few nearby small towns also have places to food shop and eat. Although we had cell service, we deliberately curtailed use of blackberries and iPhones, watched almost no TV, and experienced with Labasheeda as our home base a true sense of being present. What a gift.

Lovely home with beautiful view

Review Submitted: March 14, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
The pictures of your lovely, well cared and cozy home were true to form! It is a beautiful spot for a vacation anytime. The house had everything we needed and wanted including a fully stocked library! The house is centrally located in the most scenic Irish village and area. The location is perfect for touring southwest Ireland (Kerry & Cork) via the nearby car ferry, and cultural Ennis . We had a wonderful time and look forward to returning in the near future with friends and family. The River Shannon's view, especially with the full moon, cannot be beat!

Run down home

Irish bound Nashville TN
Review Submitted: December 2, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
We booked one full week but left after 4 days. The problems listed by severity are: 1) we rented in November which means cold weather. The central heater kept shutting off every few hours. To reactivate it we had to go out to the garage and push a red button on the hot water heater. Coming home to a very cold house after a full day of sight seeing and waking up to a very cold house with no hot water was terrible. 2) The house was very run down with a bad odor. It smelled like something died in the hallway and was removed but the smell lingered on 3) the house was just plain dirty. Spiders, spider webs, dead roaches on the door sill and rat or mouse droppings in the kitchen utensils. I took pictures of everything and will soon post on the web. The owner should remove this listing until it has been professionally repaired and cleaned. Her pictures on the web were misleading and did not show the state of disrepair the bathroom and kitchen were in. Overall the worst rental ever.
Owner's Response: We certainly regret any inconvenience to our rentor Richard. The central heating which was working perfectly when the previous rentors left in October, has now been addressed by a plumber and is in good working order. It seems that when the October rentors moved out the mice moved in! We have taken Richard's advice and had the house professionally cleaned. We encourage prospective rentors to read the other reviews on the website and when at Shannonview to read the guest book showing eighteen years of glowing reviews with no negative responses.

Our week in Shannonview was the best part of the two week trip. What a great place to base tours. Easy access to Ennis, Ferry and Cork, House was exactly as described. Mary and Joan were the best. Great place for family to get together. Will stay again!!!!

Schade

Schade Offenburg, B-W, Deutschland
Review Submitted: June 16, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We booked one full week in may 2009 but left after 4 days. The house was very run down with a very bad odor. It smelled extrem musty and stuffy. The house was just plain dirty and dumped with litter.
The state of the bathroom and kitchen - as example butt under the cutting board- are beyond the pale. Former already noted negative critique corresponds with our impressions.
It could be a very beautyful house with gorgeous antiques if there woud be tendance on it. What a pity!"
