Idyllic Spot

Review Submitted: October 21, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Fellow Travellers,

On behalf of my mother, daughter, sister-in-law and myself, I can wholeheartedly recommend Sunset Cottage. Everything was neat as a pin inside and out. The locals we met at the beach-front WiFi spot were very friendly. The owners of the house have accumulated lots of brochures on different activities, making us spoiled for choices. Looks as though a return visit is a "must".

Unique summer

jfgap Lake constance / near alps, Germany
Review Submitted: October 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
It was our first visit in Ireland. We really had a unique summer with irish weather in this amazing house. Our two children used the nice rooms on the ground floor - each child a room. And my wife and I took the (very) large rooms upstairs. So every gerneration had their free space - if it was necessary. ;-)
Dessy gave us four bikes and we made some lovely trips around Ballingskellig. The small beach three minutes away was also ideal for the kids. Collecting mussels and climbing onto the cliffs around the edge - nealy every day. It was/is a unforgettable week.
Thanks for all, we'd like to come back again!g

A perfect house for 8-9

Los Telles Barcelona, Spain
Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The house is comfortable and big enough for 8 persons+.
Very light and good finishes, 3 double berooms, an enormous toilet with shower and jacuzzi (2 pax), living room- dining room with a table for 10 and the kitchen, well equiped (I missed a mixer), all downstairs. Upsairs you'll find a double en suit bedroom and another sitting room with capacity for all 8 seating. From the upper windows there is a great view of Ballinskellings bay. and if you ever have a clear night look up to the sky.

A garden sorrounds the house, there is place for 2 or 3 cars in front and there are 4 working bicycles.
The house is located 2 km away from the village, nice bike round. there is a beach 200m far, an a dock just beside, good place for kids to play fishing.

We came in August and everything was fully working (we didn't fire both upper and lower fireplaces) if you are a big family or two, the house will welcome you.

Ballinskellings is a windy place, Irish weather garanteed, far enough from large villages, in the gas station youn may find the basics, 12 Km away Waterville, supermarket, restaurants and golf course.

we loved it, you just feel home.

Sunset Cottage

Welb Derbyshire, England
Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We had a really lovely holiday. As it was our first visit to Ireland we were a bit nervous of how we would be treated. We needn't have worried. We found everyone, from Des to the people we met everywhere, to be really welcoming and friendly.
Sunset Cottage was just what we had wanted. The house, area, views, wildlife and fishing were lovely.
Thanks Des

Peace and Beauty

Irish Cameo Illinois, USA
Review Submitted: August 26, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
My mother, my cousin, and myself spent a wonderful week at Sunset Cottage in June. It was absolutely incredible! The cottage itself is beautiful, the scenery is breathtaking, and Des is wonderful. To have a mountain for your backyard, and the ocean for a (some distance) front yard, is superb. The windows from the upstairs library provide a vista that is indescribable. Des spent a long time with us, answering a myriad questions, providing directions, and even helping to translate some Irish for us! Thanks Des, for a marvelous experience. When we return, we will certainly stay here again.

staying in sunset cottage

Marso Dublin
Review Submitted: August 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
It is not long since we've returned from des's beautiful sunset cottage and we left or hearts behind us.We stayed there with our extended family including granchild. The lay out is ideal with the upstairs lounge as it afforded our older chidren privacy to play computer and listen to music. The house is extremly spacious for the bigger family but it also has a lovely sense of cosiness and warmth. The garden is a wonderful place to both relax in and also extremely safe to let younger children run around in safety.Des has also left plenty of invaluable info on area in the house. There is the pier from which you can get boat to skelligs ,on your door step. There is also a lovely little beach and endless relaxing walks nearby. Not foregetting the bikes that Des has left for use for the energetic. This was not our first visit to Sunset Cottage in Ballinskelligs and it wont be our last.I cant reccomend it highly enough for a family holiday as it has something for everyone.

a wonderful week in a wonderful house

Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We (4 Austrians and 2 Swiss) had a remindable week in one of the nicest places in Ireland. We enjoyed the impressive scenery on extended walks along the beach (Ballingskeligs and Derrynane Bay), on the top of cliffs (Valentia Island) through beautiful gardens (Derrynane Park and Muckross House) or just through the everywhere nice country. We made delightful tours to Kenmare and Killarney, the weather did not allow a trip to the Skellig Islands.
Shopping and pubs are best in Caherciveen, there are pubs as 100 years ago inviting you to take more than one pint.
Sunset cottage is well situated nearby the beach, clean, comfortable and well eqipped. The owner is very friendly and pleasant.
We recommend this place to everyone who like to spend a nice, comfortable and exciting time in Ireland.
Last but not least we would like to come back ourselves another year.

Fantastic holiday at Sunset Cottage

jayne1203 Pembrokeshire
Review Submitted: June 1, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Another fab holiday in one the Cronin's holiday home. Thjis one had fantastic views front and back and the house was lovely and cosy and very homely. We took our two boys who are 11 and 13 and they had great fun with their inflatable kayak in the harbour and also used the bikes the owners had provided. The boys used the downstairs lounge while us oldies had privacy in the upstairs lounge. The jacuzzi bath was really great.
We were lucky with the weather, as we were last year, but instead of visiting other places, we got to know the immediatle area better, with bike rides and walks. Cable O'Leary's do a great guiness and Barbara at the beach side cafe is a mind of information.
We had another brilliant week. Thanks again Des and Teresa.

In this house you have to feel good. Absolute quiet, comfortable, warm, it is as if one comes home. This house is spaciously laid out and not to forget the great support of Des.

Gorgeous stay in Ballinskelligs

Kerrypearl Frankfurt
Review Submitted: August 6, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
My family (5 persons) and and enjoyed very much the lovely atmosphere of that cottage with all comfort for good and "less perfect" weather: garden, games, many rooms, good choice of books, even German romans, TV and DVDs, very well equipped kitchen etc. Perfectly situated next to the sea in the beautiful countryside.

We are very glad having found this pearl of Kerry.
