stunning holiday in Hungary

White House is a wonderful place to stay. The house feels like home from the minute you walk through the door. The owner has left a comment book which asks for suggestions to improve the house, but we wouldn't change a thing (even my telly addict partner admitted that a TV would have spoiled it!!). It's setting in a real, totally non-touristy village gives a true taste of Hungarian life and reminded me of my childhood in Warwickshire in the 50's. The birds and wild flowers are amazing and the surrounding countryside begs you to explore. It's flat enough here to actually enjoy cycling the country lanes (bikes in the outbuilding) but undulating enough not to be boring and there are more than enough places to go to keep everyone happy. Don't miss the underground caves in Topolca or the hilltop castle in Sumeg. The lake itself is fascinating (I've never seen water that colour!) and if you want a waterside holiday it will provide it but there's so much more to do and see that we only went a couple of times. Hire a car, the roads are good and the drivers (once you get out of Budapest) courteous. We had a truly relaxing week that I would happily recommend to anyone.
Owner's Response: I tried so hard to find a house in a village that would enable visitors to experience rural hungary and life in a small village as it used to be.
The inside is a bit old fashioned and nostalgic but I am so pleased that it makes people smile and feel homely

Beautiful house

A beautifully furnished, relaxed house with comfortable garden set in a lively but peaceful village. We enjoyed the walking, cycling and swimming. The restaurant in the village is lovely and the food good and cheap. Swimming in lake Balaton is great and the thermal lake at Heviz an experience. The Kali basin is interesting country side - plenty to explore.
A great holiday - we would return and our 9 and 12 year old daughters agree.

Hungarian countrylife

If you like a holiday to get to know the real Hungarian country and village life, this is the place for you. We enjoyed to get to know the Kali-basin rock-area with bikes provided. There is a nice shop, good restaurants nearby and to lovely Abrahamhegy sandy beach just 10- 15 minutes drive. The house is nice furnished and the garden peaceful and the fruits delicious. If you want lot of light and warm inside and sunshine in the garden and action around you, and washing machines, it is not your place. We enjoyed our week there and combined with a week by Balaton shore with a pool it was a perfect combination for a family with 8 and 10 years old children. Nice village, house nicely decorated, bikes, Kali basin and Balaton near. Family from Finland

Perfect vacation

I chose this property because of the reviews, and these are very accurate. I went to the house with two nephews, one 8 and one 13, and they both loved it, which is quite a feat. They appreciated the interesting layout, the bikes, the games, the garden, the farm next door, the places to visit (see the visitors' book and the excellent brochures provided in the sitting room). I liked the fact that the house had everything we needed, was warm and comfortable, beatifully furnished, but boy-proof.
Just one warning - do not trust Google for the directions. . If you trust Google you will have a long night-time journey with lots of amazing, but suicidal, wildlife crossing the road.

Peace, wine and horses

The description is very accurate, although from the description I didn't get that there are actually two units: the main house and a two-bedded room with it's own kitchenette and bathroom in the ex-barn, practical & privacy when you travel with two couples or with a grandmother, like we did.
A cosy house with a nice walled garden in an unspoilt village, much better than the Balaton shore itself, though that is only few kilometres away. Helpful villagers (and English inhabitants). There's a lot to do especially for horse lovers (riding, but we also saw a polomatch and a mediaeval play on horseback), walkers and castle-lovers.
The nearby "Kürort" is very relaxing in an olf fashioned way. We got great chardonnay an a sherry-like wine in the wine-farm just opposite the street. A shame we were by plane and couldn't take crates of it home. (Ryan air flies tot Balaton airport).
We also visited Budapest from here (about 2 hours drive when you cross the lake).
So, we agree with the Norwegian review: thank you Tim, for letting your house!
