Good touring base in not so good July weather

We stayed for the last 2 weeks in July and despite pretty poor weather (only a couple of beach days in the 2 weeks) had a very enjoyable holiday. The lodge provides well equipped, compact accommodation exactly as described, with the sound of the sea as a backdrop. Despite the so so weather the sheltered verandah enabled us to enjoy breakfast outside on several days.
A car really is a necessity, but West Bexington proved to be a very good base for travelling out from along the coast in both directions and also to many things to do inland (including an enjoyable day trip to Stonehenge & Salisbury). There is a great deal to do within reach, with great views along the coast as you travel in either direction.
The one thing I'd comment on which we did not appreciate until we arrived is that the local beach is not suitable for bathing. Chesil Beach is quite amazing and we knew it would be shingle, so were prepared, but for much of its length - including here - it is quite steep with undercurrents so going into the water is discouraged. Ironically had the weather been better this might have been more of an irritant, but in the event on the days when it was good enough we were happy to go a few miles to other, good local beaches.
On the other hand, if you like sea fishing, it seems to be ideal !
