Something Wrong?

Review Submitted: February 1, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We had a lovely stay at the cottage over Christmas 2008/09 but when we got a £50 deposit cheque back from the owners, it bounced and their e-mail address no longer works. So I wouldn't recommend anyone else book with them.
Owner's Response: The actual facts are that due to an error from our bank a whole cheque book of cheques were cancelled in error, we alerted the renter by telephone to the problem & sent a duplicate cheque immediately. Yes we were out of touch by our landline telephone & email as we had moved house!, however we could have been contacted via our mobile telephone which the renter had or by post neither which they were willing to do & we had already notified them & rectified the problem. What else could we do.

This was our third visit to chesil lodge and again we were blessed with fabulous weather all week. dogs love it here , shingle beach and long walks just wear them out. Lodge as always beautifully clean and tidy . Lots to do and see, even my teenage daughters love it here, glad to get away from the hussle and bussle of school and college. Only down side having to return home on the saturday. Thanks again to Peter and Jacky for letting us stay. Hope we can all come again next year.

Good touring base in not so good July weather

YorksBs West Yorkshire
Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We stayed for the last 2 weeks in July and despite pretty poor weather (only a couple of beach days in the 2 weeks) had a very enjoyable holiday. The lodge provides well equipped, compact accommodation exactly as described, with the sound of the sea as a backdrop. Despite the so so weather the sheltered verandah enabled us to enjoy breakfast outside on several days.

A car really is a necessity, but West Bexington proved to be a very good base for travelling out from along the coast in both directions and also to many things to do inland (including an enjoyable day trip to Stonehenge & Salisbury). There is a great deal to do within reach, with great views along the coast as you travel in either direction.

The one thing I'd comment on which we did not appreciate until we arrived is that the local beach is not suitable for bathing. Chesil Beach is quite amazing and we knew it would be shingle, so were prepared, but for much of its length - including here - it is quite steep with undercurrents so going into the water is discouraged. Ironically had the weather been better this might have been more of an irritant, but in the event on the days when it was good enough we were happy to go a few miles to other, good local beaches.

On the other hand, if you like sea fishing, it seems to be ideal !

We had a wonderful week at Chesil Beach. The description about the facilities, layout were absolutely accurate. The house was very clean and well maintained. We were especially pleased by the hospitality and friendliness of the charming owners jackie and peter. To meet people like them makes a holiday even more delightful.
