If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and relax without being too far from civilization, you can't do better than this property. The house is wonderfully designed and equipped, and the owners provide lots of extras, including feed for the numerous deer and birds which visit the property regularly - we had 18 deer in our front yard one evening, and by the end of the week they were eating out of our hands. The screened in porch was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature, which included bullfrogs in a pond next door and lots of woodpeckers. The drive into the property along the Cacapon River is very pretty, and should be gorgeous in the fall. We definitely want to return to this house!

Fantastic Get Away

The house is great - four large bedrooms, a nice living room and kitchen (fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils and dinnerware), and plenty of parking. Everything was spotlessly clean. The woods are beautiful - and serene. A perfect place to have a long weekend with family and/or friends, chatting, playing games, hanging out. And the price makes a weekend getaway relatively inexpensive. The nearby town of Berkley Springs is charming, has good restaurants and shopping, too.

I stayed at Walnut Hill and had the most relaxing time. At the time of arriving the deer came for their feeding so I had to take care of the wildlife first. The screened in porch and deck is a pleasant and peaceful experience in itself. We walked down to the river and just stood there enjoying the "good life". The house is spacious and very clean. Everything you need is right there at your finger tips. I really enjoyed reading the guestbook entries that have been written. It seems as though everyone has their own personal experience while they are there. And as if I wasnt relaxed enough I drove into Berkley Springs and got a hot stone massage. The stores downtown have unique items and I couldnt walk away without having to at least buying one or two items. The owners were very nice to work with, very accomodating to any needs and questions that I had. It was very easy booking the stay. Thank you..... I hope to return soon. I would really like to stay at Walnut Hill once during the Summer, Spring, Fall, and Winter just to see how the scenery changes. Im sure the beauty is there no matter what season it is.

Great for a a Family Break or Quiet Getaway

Bethesda writer Bethesda, MD
Review Submitted: April 3, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
This property has all the ingredients needed for a good family vacation or a quiet getaway for two. The house is well-designed, solidly built, and tastefully furnished. A big, open-plan kitchen flows into a dining area and living room, so if you're working in the kitchen, you're still into a conversation unfolding in the living room. There's a spacious master bedroom and bath downstairs and three other smaller bedrooms and large bath upstairs--all carpeted, functional and well-decorated. The house has 300-plus channels of Direct TV, a DVD player with about 30 films. There's a full bookcase holding a variety of books from guidebooks to novels, board games, puzzles and cards. And that's just indoors. Outside is, well,...West Virginia. It's a three minute walk to the Cacapon River and decent fishing (although there's better fishing half a mile away). There are many other walks and rides to surrounding areas. Although there are other houses in the area, it's quiet and remote. We feed the deer in the evening and hope not to run into a bear at night. If you forget milk, you're about six miles to the nearest village grocery store and about twice that to a real supermarket. We've been here all seasons of the year, often to simply regroup as a family. We've always left feeling like we can't wait to come again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this inviting and cozy property. The house was in perfect condition; spacious, and offered all of the comforts of home--hand-made quilts, Direct TV, large bathrooms, very nicely appointed--we could not have asked for more. The screened-in portch was relaxing and offered an upclose-and-personal view of the deer and other wildlife. Berkeley Springs was fun--with a nice choice of restaurants and galleries. We sure are looking forward to our return trip!

We had a wonderful time at this cabin & hope to be able to return again. My daughter was just over a year old and really enjoyed herself. We all slept better than ever because it is so quiet and gets so dark. It rained almost the entire time we were there, but we still had a wonderful time & would love to go back again!

I stayed at this property and had a wonderful time. The house is very comfortable and very clean, with all the amenities of home. The location is peaceful and full of wildlife. I would highly recommend staying here. Also, the spas at Berkely Springs are a must. A truely relaxing experience.

This is a fantastic place.
There are too many good things to mention. It is extremely clean and very well maintained. It is comfortable for an extended family of 8 with ample privacy for all. During the evenings the deck and screen porch provided us with lots of space for catching up and playing cards etc. The couch potatoes were also comfortable in the family room. Washing and Dryer are essential if you are using the river, as was the abundant stack of plushy linens.
River had some great fishing although it is a bit of a hike from the house to the river if you are carrying canoes or kayaks (there is a launch down the road though if you prefer)
Please take care of this as we plan to visit each year.
