Rural Tranquility

Lesley & Bridget Bristol - UK
Review Submitted: June 1, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
A wonderfully located agriturismo just a short drive north of Lucca. Simply decorated and adequately appointed but sufficient to make self-catering easy. The hosts are genuinely welcoming and speak good english but were happy to let me try out my GCSE italian without laughing out loud.
A good location for many activities. I was able to visit Siena, Florence and the Cinque Terre easily. But if you wanted to be outdoors-y I'm sure there would be plenty to keep you busy. there is a riding school just up the road I believe.
The road to the village has some serious hairpin bends, but once you get used to them, they are not so scary. But look out for the dog in the middle of the road in Aquilea.
Two large but well behaved dogs amble about the property and are totally loveable.
Lella and her family are wonderful hosts. They are helpful and obliging and are delighted to show you the joys of living in rural Italy. I was lucky enough to be invited to share the Mayday festa complete with roast piglet cooked in the traditional wood fired oven. Fantastic.
I hope to return soon along with some friends to take some cooking lessons and enjoy the local wine and the fabulous views across the valley.
Bridget

Tranquil farmhouse stay in gorgeous countryside

pippak Los Angeles CA USA
Review Submitted: October 17, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Our stay at the beautiful, tranquil "Abbacca-là" was all that we had hoped for ... and more.

We were greeted and helped by Lella and her family with care, attention and helpfulness in every aspect of our stay. Whether it was information about things to do, a referral for a horse-riding class, her superb and utterly memorable meal, directions to restaurants and shops, or ideas about how to spend a major holiday in a closed-down country, she was our Source!

It was a joy to return from a scorching day and enter the cool stone-walled house, or dip into the fresh pool. My 6-year old daughter discovered that life on a farm can be "amazing"! And we would love to return to savor the Tuscan way of life.

Wonderful place to stay

Lella is the best hostess you can find. We had a wonderful time. Her place is a great location to go on day trips. And Lella can help with directions. The apartments are very clean and plenty of room. She will give you a cooking lesson too. We also rented her car. If you are planning a trip to the Lucca area this is a great place to stay.

Picturesque Tuscany

Boofy Ballarat, Australia
Review Submitted: July 12, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
This comfortable farmhouse is located in glorious surroundings. The sweeping views of Tuscany are truly breathtaking; majestic mountains stretch away into the distance while close by, ponies and donkeys graze amongst olive trees. Everywhere you turn, the vistas are classical Italy. Roads wind through picture-book villages, past quiet churches and vineyards, cross tumbling rivers and pass through stands of chestnut, beech and, of course, cyprus trees. The walled city of Lucca is a short and easy drive, and Florence is a short train journey away. Cinque Terra is also within easy reach
The farmhouse itself has everything you need. It is warm, comfortable and well-appointed and feels like a home. The farmhouse hosts live on the property and made us feel very welcome. The family are friendly, helpful and their hospitality added greatly to our enjoyment of this magnificent region of Italy. We enjoyed our stay so much, and recall the week we had with great warmth.

We love Lella's cooking!

The farmhouse was a great location to house ourselves as we traveled daily to the beach, theApuan Alps and marble mountains, Bagni Da Lucca and the devil's bridge, Colidi, Lucca, Florence (take the comfy bus from Lucca, it is so easy), and more! I recommend you let Lella cook dinner for you-local wine, her own olive oil and al fresco dining makes you feel right at home and the view is splendid. Very safe to walk around the rural roads, try to make it to the bombed church atop the hill-what a hike!
Watch the hairpin turns on your way to her home but once you drive it a few times it gets better!
My daughter loved the dogs Tino and Rex, and the horses.
We loved Lella homemade jams and yogurts so let her do breakfast for you at least once!
I recommend the market on Saturday morning in Lucca, as well as the marble Mtns-stunning!
Plenty of space was a treat after being in tiny Eurpean hotels prior to the farmhouse.
We feel in love with the rural towns after being in large tourist towns-it makes for a nice mix and you really get a feel of how these Italians live! We will be back.

65 yr old outdoor enthusiast adds praise

Kathy, [Sharon's friend] San Diego, California, USA
Review Submitted: April 17, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
I was here with Sharon from Rochester and wanted to agree with all she said. Lella couldn't have been more gracious or helpful. I loved the little car we hired from her at a most resonable rate. The area exceded my expectations. I'd go back in a minute, and many times if I had an unlimited source of funds. Great place for an outdoor type of person. So beautiful! And to reiterate the previous reviews, great food. Don't miss the oportunity to have Lella cook you a meal. I loved how remote it was and loved walking the countryside. [Local wine was top notch as well.] Thanks again for all the time you took advising us on day trips Lella. ' Wish I could come back for fall harvest.

Family vacation

BethJ New York, NY
Review Submitted: April 9, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My family (me, my husband Michael, our 2 daughters and their husbands and our 17 month old granddaughter) stayed in this charming farmhouse March 23 - 30, 2008. We had a wonderful vacation! The views are spectacular and Lella is an excellent hostess. We greatly appreciated the delicious dinner she cooked the evening of our arrival. Our little granddaughter was thrilled to see the friendly "neigh neigh's" (horses) and "bock bock's" (chickens) as well as the huge friendly dogs. We walked a lot and drove to Lucca, Florence, Pisa, and several small towns. Please note that this property is suitable for tourists without a car because Lella has a car available to rent at a reasonable fee. However, it is not suitable for those who cannot drive because shopping is close enough by car, but too far to walk.
Thanks Lella! We look forward to seeing you and your family again.
Best wishes,
Beth

Home away from home!

SharonP Rochester, Minnesota USA
Review Submitted: April 1, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My friends and I (all in our 60's) stayed at this Eco-friendly farmhouse in March and had a wonderful time. Lella and her husband were the most warm and helpful host...always available to help us with questions and travel tips. The farmhouse was very clean and provided everything we needed to feel very much at home. The location is perfect for exploring interesting cities and sights by car or travel by train or bus. We really appreciated being able to use their car for our excursions and travel while staying there...very reasonable price and spared us the hassle of car rental.
We especially enjoyed the meal Lella made for us using many of the "fruits of their labor"...like olives, olive oil (the best I've ever tasted) and bean soup made from beans unique to the Lucca area. (Lella was kind enough to give me some of the beans to try in my own summer garden!)
I give this place a huge five star rating and hope you will consider it for your stay in the beautiful hills of Tuscany.
Thanks for everything Lella...I feel like we were staying with family! A grateful guest, Sharon

Our lovely first time in Tuscany

Review Submitted: March 29, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My boyfriend and I had an amazing first time in
Tuscany, largely thanks to Lella and family. The
dinner she made on our first night was fabulous,
and the family made us feel welcome. The
countryside is, of course, beautiful. It is also
amazing that Lella and family live such an eco-
friendly lifestyle, using solar power etc. Thanks for
an amazing trip Lella (our Italian mamma) We can't
wait to return =)
