A Room with a View!

Wow! We have been coming to France for several years, and to be honest, I'd become disenchanted. We've stayed in chateaux which were damp and dismal, gites with limited essential. Our stay here has overturned all that. The apartment is lovely - and much classier than the photos suggest. It's light, airy, clean and has a lovely feel. (Actually - it doesn't feel like a holiday home - more like a good friend's house swap.) There's everything you need to hand ( and a few welcome surprises). The complex is safe, secure with tons of privacy. We were lucky - during our stay (first 2 weeks in June) we virtually had the place to ourselves.
You can't describe the sensation of viewing the infinity pool for the first time - so I won't - other than to say you will not be disappointed. During our stay, there was no more than five other guests at the pool - and often we had it to ourselves, other than for a tame seagull who chose it as his private pool.
As for the location - I can't recommend it too highly. Where else can you be a 20 minute drive from Nice, 20 minutes drive from Italy and a 20 minute walk to Monte Carlo? There's so much to see and do that you are almost spoilt for choice. If its retail therapy - the markets of Ventimillia, San Remo, and Nice - and if you win in the casio - Monaco! For breathtaking scenery, Eze village, and for wonderful beaches, VilleFranche Sur Mere, Cap Martin, Beaullieu Sur Mere. (Tho best to avoid Eze sur Mere - very disappointing!)
The higest European village (St. Agnes?)is only 15km
from the apartment, but expect your heads to be literally in the clouds, and your driving skills to be tested!
For a good all round place to spend a day, especially if you have kids, Menton is hard to beat.(Cheapest petrol in the area, really good quality gift shops, great range of restaurants, excellent covered market, and a super beach) - plus the essential Intermarche is literally 5 mins from the next motorway junction.
What of Monaco? Rich, classy, interesting and civilised - in every aspect except the drivers - who are all suffering from Lewis Hamilton ambitions of capability. This aside, it's great - but certainly not the be all and end all of the holiday.
Would we recommend it? Absolutely! Take sensible shoes, plenty of Euros for the casino and a digital camera (you'll use too many rolls of film if you use the other kind), beach gear and mock designer sunglasses - and you'll have a fab time!
