Nice Stay

We have been to NYC before and stayed in Manhattan but it was so expensive we looked for an alternative. I always liked the idea of staying on Staten Island and catching the ferry in each day so we looked online and found this place. We stayed for 11 nights and right from the start Marina looked after us - waited in the cold to show the taxi where the driveway is when we arrived and taking us to Brookyln and ording a taxi to the airport on our last day.
The ferry is still about 20 minutes from the appartment, so most days we just caught the express bus (which runs right outside if you get up before 9.30 and all day if you catch a 5 minute connecting bus to it).
Coming home is a little more ticky on the bus. They go really late too but wating for a local transfer for that 5 minute ride can take over 30minutes, so we just walked. The streets are really safe.
The apparment is big and warm and cosy. The only downside is that you can hear the people upstairs for a while in the evening and the morning. We already had ear plugs so if you are a sensitive sleeper, I would say you will need them.
Overall, the appartment and service was so nice. Very clean and warm. It was also nice to stay out of the city for a different perspective. The travelling takes it's time as expected, but when you are on holiday it doesn't really matter.
Owner's Response: Thanks for your honest review. It was a pleasure having you as my guests. At the time of your stay 3 bedroom apartment above yours was rented to a very nice but a little noisy family (8 people), which does not happen that often, usually it's 4-5 people. It's true that sound isolation is not that great, but that's how they build new homes in NY (the house is just 4 years old).

perfect apt for relaxing after a stressful day

Marina is a great host and the apt she offers is perfect for people who want to see NY and get to know a bit the normal life in America. It's very clean and little shops for every day life are just a short walk away. Right on the other site of the street is the bus stop to get to the Staten Island ferry (it takes about 25 min) and the ferry corresponds with the bus. Therefore you normally don't have to wait long to get to Manhattan. The ferry itself is kinda relaxing after a stressful day in NYC and one can enjoy the skyline in the morning, the afternoon or at night.

In the summer months it's perfect to have the beach just around the corner. It's supervised by life guards for safety in the water. We would always go back and stay at the apt. It was a very pleasant time and Marina was very helpful with everything.

Thanks again Marina and all the best for you!

Excellent value for money

Review Submitted: July 25, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My partner and I recently stayed in this apartment for one week. We would highly recommend it.
The description was very accurate. The apartment was just as we had anticipated, if not better. It was clean, well looked after and equipped with everything you need for a short stay.
The buses to the ferry leave from just across the road from the apartment and the service is very regular, 24 hours a day. It was actually quite a treat to take the Staten Island ferry every day and enjoy one of the best views of the island!
The owner could not have been more helpful and went out of her way to do everything she could to help.
Thank you Marina!

We loved it

We really enjoyed our stay at Marinas apartment. The apartment is very well equipped. We found everything we needed. Our daughter was very fond of the free internet access. We loved the ferry rides to Manhattan with the great view and when coming back in the evening having the beach just across the street. The boardwalk is great for running in the morning. We highly recommend this apartment to everybody who seeks a combination of busy Manhattan and vacation at the beach. Thanks very much to Marina who was really helpful and very kind. We would really like to come back.

If you are looking for Staten Island base for your stay then Marina's place here would be a good option. We found the apartment exactly as described in the listing and it really is very comfortable. Marina herself was most helpful at all stages and you are in very safe hands.
With hindsight we spent most of our time in Manhattan and it is quite a bit of travel time if you are there more than a few days, if you are comfortable with that or if you want to spend more time on the island itself it would work out just fine.

My husband, son and I stayed here the first week of December, 2008. The apartment was clean and neat (with heated floors...a plus that time of year!). Marina was very helpful in giving us information on how to best get around Staten Island and how to traverse to Manhattan. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely like to come back when the weather is a bit warmer...although we LOVED being able to see the Big Apple adorned for the holidays.

I've been in this apartment for two months, and it's really great !

The fisrt thing I noticed when arriving is that it was even better than in the description. The property is clean and well-maintained. The owner Marina provided me a very good customer service and was very helpful.

I recommende this property that is also located close to the beach and seawlak. Bus and ferry run 24 hours a day and bus stops are really close to the house. The bus takes about 20 to 25 minutes to get to the Ferry Terminal in SI, and then the Ferry ride to South Ferry Station in Manhattan is 25 minutes.

My boyfriend and I came to New York on a budget and this apartment is perfect for this reason and more! You do commute to Manhattan, but don't let this put you off. The buses and ferries are very regular and work in conjunction with each other, so at 3am in the morning you will not be waiting more than 5mins for a bus. The apartment is very clean with all ameneties. Fab shower, especially after those long hikes around Manhattan.
Marina very helpful, friendly and will provide you with all the information required for your stay. I recommend this apartment to everyone. Thanks Marina!

Marina was very kind and knowledgable about the area. She was always willing to work with us when we had any questions and was very friendly! The bungalow(as my husband nicknamed it) was a perfect distance from the noise of the big city and when we were inside, it was very very quiet! The place was impeccably clean and everything seemed quite new. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone! For $25. you can buy a bus&subway unlimited ticket(between SI & Manhattan) and the SI Ferry is free and relaxing!

My gilrfriend, my 60 years old dad and I spent 6 nights from August 27th till Sep 2nd, it was a great place to stay far enough from sometimes heavy city of newyork specially when you are travelling with older people, the trip in the ferry is simply relaxing after a busy nyc day.

The owner is really kind, caring for any of your needs, and accomplishing with all the issues she placed on the apartment advertisement.

Bus is very easy every 20 minutes, and it has a great beach right across the street, there is also a great restaurant and a bar right on the beach offering great food (not that cheap but very good quality seafood) there is also a Ben and Jerrys right there.

It is a great choice, for budget travellers
