A haven in the heart of Tuscany

Review Submitted: February 24, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2007
October 2007 was our second stay at Il Colombaio, and both were well worth it. The location was perfect for our needs. We were able to combine day trips to the major sites in Tuscany with a return to a quiet and restful setting in the countryside. Florence is an easy train ride away; Arrezzo and Siena are both easy to reach. Closer to home, Cavriglia has some great restaurants, a large park with a small zoo.

The accommodations are spacious, with everything we needed available. The antique furnishings are complimented with modern appliances, so the living is easy.

The setting is a lovely spot to enjoy the Tuscan hills. During our first stay we got to watch part of the olive harvest and Marina and Andrea brought us a sample of the newly pressed oil. Needless to say it was outstanding.

All in all, a great place to stay while visiting Tuscany. Marina and Andrea, (and Lucretia and Enzo) are gracious hosts who go out of their way to make everything perfect. Thanks.

Perfect for a first-time family visit to Italy

Review Submitted: October 15, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Il Colombaio was perfect for our family of 4 during our first visit to Italy. The children had space to explore and friendly kittens, and the pace was relaxed and flexible. We could be as private as we wanted, yet Marina was always accessible to help. We loved our walks to Cavriglia for food, cappucino or groceries, or up the road to the top of the hill for the views. The apartment was comfortable and beautifully furnished.
The gardens & views were beautiful as well. It was everything and more of what we expected from the listing description. We have already recommended the property to our friends with older children who wish to visit Italy. For family-friendly restaurants, we enjoyed Pitena and Piccolo in Cavriglia. Pizza Doc or groceries from the Coop in the square were perfect for when we just wanted to relax at the farmhouse for dinner. We took the train from Montevarchi to Florence for the day. It worked out well, but we were very lucky to find a parking space in Montevarchi. We traveled by car to Sienna, San Gimignano, and the Chianti villages. Very nice, but be prepared for some confusion in finding parking, and finding your way out! Otherwise, fantastic!

Wonderful week spent in Il Colombaio

We have just returned home from Il Colombaio and are already wishing we were back there. The property was everything it promised to be- and more. The photos are good, but can't do it justice. You have to be there to experience the atmosphere and the wondeful views. Although we knew Marina was on hand to help at any time, we could be as private as we wanted. Garden a pleasure and the pool area is well stocked with plenty of comfy sunbeds, tables and large parasols. A drive through the surrounding countryside is a must for the fabulous scenery, but Arezzo and Sienna remain firm favourites. We fully intend to return and will recommend a stay here to our friends.

Stay at Il Fienile

Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We stayed 10 days at Il Fienile, spending holidays for the second time in Tuscany. We had a wonderful time there, as the place is peacefull, quite, with a wonderfull sight seeing. The weather was great, so we enjoyed the terrace and pool !
The location of the house is optimal to visite the hearth of Tuscany. For example you can reach Florence by train easily, and Arezzo and Siena are 30/45 mn drive away.
Il could be also a great base next time for biking holidays !

This was our second visit in three years and we will be going back again. On this occation our son and his partner accompanied us and were very impressed and say they will definatly return The grounds which were allready outstanding have grown in so much and improved . The addition of the third property has also enhanced this location, although the properties were all full when we were there we never saw any one else. It has private and wonderfull pool. A fantastic spot to discover Italy. The quaint town of Cavriglia just a 20 minute walk away is such a delight for a quiet night out it only comes alive after 9pm when the locals take to the square with there young families. The hosts are very attentive and available if you need them, but also leave you to get on with your hoilday. the accommodation and grounds are spottless. We would recommend this place to anyone.

Wonderful Vacation Apartment

Review Submitted: July 22, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had a truly wonderful stay at il Colombaio. It was perfect for our family, two adults and two children (11 and 13). The apartment was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. But the setting was truly idyllic; great views, refreshing pool, fruit trees and gardens everywhere. The property is extremely well maintained and ideally located with access to wonderful Tuscany and all its glory. A car is necessary to visit the hill towns and other sites. I highly recommend a stay here and we are already planning our return. Thanks for everything.

Just back from our April 2009 vacation at Il Colobaio. The location in the Chianti Hills is very nice. Very quiet and extremely clean appartment. It is also very well situated for day trips (Florence, Arezzo, Sienna, Cortona, Montepulciano...). The owners are very nice and made are stay extremely enjoyable and they were available if needed. We usually stay in nice hotels and this was our first experience; we were a bit hesitant to stay at Il Colombaio but we were pleased with our experience and we will be back very shortly with family (from Canada) on our next vacation in Italy. Thanks once again to Marina and see you soon.

Idyllic holiday retreat

GinaF Cambridge, UK
Review Submitted: August 18, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Il Colombaio is everything you could want from a holiday retreat. Set in a beautiful location in the Chianti Hills amid olive groves and vineyards, they are clean, well equiped apartments with lovely gardens and a fabulous pool. Ideally placed for touring the sites of Tuscany but so blissful you'll enjoy staying "home" too! Restaurants and food store are within a short drive (or a long walk!) We've just returned from our second visit and hope to return again but for longer next time.
