The house is modern and very spacious in particular the open plan kitchen/ dining area. The location is very convenient for ski resort of Mt Ascutney. Whilst located on a hill, the road and drive were ploughed regularly. The owner was most helpful.

Awesome house, super close to the base lodge, and very comfortable for our team to stay in for our race at Ascutney. Definitely will be coming back next season for our races.

We would highly recommend this house!!

The house was clean and had enough space for our family of six. The open floor plan and big dinning room table was great for all of us to be together. The location was peaceful, quiet, and had something for everyone to enjoy. Hiking trails are close by, the fitness center with a pool, and shopping in Woodstock. We look forward to staying here again!

It was the ideal time to be in Vermont this Fall! the colors were spectacular and the weather was warm. The house was very cozy and met our family's needs completely. There was plenty of room and the kitchen and dining area made for very pleasant family mealtimes. Lots of good hiking, sightseeing and shopping nearby! We're looking forward to coming back!

This house had everything one could need! Perfect kitchen, comfy beds, lawn to run around, grill to cook on, and all the peace and quiet one could ask for. Walking distance to Mt. Asctney Resort opens a multitude of recreational options.

The owners were wonderful to deal with and everything was as promised.

Nice house BUT...

The house was as described for the most part. The view was limited. There is no television. There is no cell phone or Internet reception on site. It's great if solitude is required.

The lower three bedrooms were not really usable due to being musty. I didn't take the time or effort to see if they would air out over a day or two for use.

The biggest concern was that apparently the cleaning people had not been to the site before rental. It was filthy. If I had not arrived in the middle of the night, I would have tried to cancel the rental on that basis

A good portion of the first days vacation was spent in cleaning after a power outage was resolved. The landlord made an effort to rectify the circimstance by refunding an additional $50 of the rental fee, as well as the charged security deposit. (There had been a recent break in from the look of things, and the downstairs window was not replaced, and so the house was not able to be technically secured. I was aware of the broken window before going. The ownerhad thought it ould be fixed by our arrival. It was still unfixed as of our departure.)

The landlord is not onsite, and so the residence does not appear to be routinely supervised. The area was lovely. I'll probably retire there. I've returned annually for the last 5 years. I would not however rent this house again, nor recommend it to my friends.
Owner's Response: After dozens of successful rentals and satisfied guests, a "perfect storm" situation did arise with this particular rental: Someone threw a rock through the window of our home days before the rental, a replacement window wasn't available right away and needed to be ordered, and a power failure shut off electricity to the house for the better part of a day. Not a very typical set of circumstances.
In response to the reviewer's specific concerns:
- Granted, the quality of a view is subjective, but we happen to think ours is very nice. We're happy to send a photograph.to whomever may be interested.
- The lower floors are perfectly usable. That's where our children sleep. Granted, in the summer the windows do need to be opened up to let the fresh air circulate. Vermont is known for its fresh air after all!
- The property is supervised though we do not live there ourselves full time. It is our vacation home which we use for ski season, summer vacations and weekends in the fall.
- With respect to the comment on how clean the property was upon the guest's arrival: this seems to be somewhat of an exaggeration. Since the house was cleaned the week before, it's hard to imagine the guest spent "much of the first day cleaning". Nonetheless, we addressed the concern by refunding an amount equal to what we pay a cleaning service.
- Finally, TV, cell phone service and internet connectivity are all quite scant in this area (primarily because we're in the shadow of Mount Ascutney.) However, that's the way we like it. If you're looking for a quiet vacation in a serene location, this is a great option!
