Home from Home

Review Submitted: October 31, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
This was our 10th visit to malta and the first time to Dewberry (but not the last). The villa was beautiful, clean and more like a home from home. We have stayed at many villas on the island but this one was wonderful, little extra made all the difference to our stay. The owners John & Geraldine were wonderful and made our stay even more special.

John was fantastic when my husband had to get home urgently 2 days before we left. he organised the flights and made it so much eaisr.

The pool and gardens are beautifully kept and the facilities within the Villa made life great. normally we would eat out every night but here the kitchen is well equipped so cooking was easy.

I have booked again for next year (glad we were allowed back!)

A beautiful spacious clean villa, highly recommended, John and Geraldine make your stay a very enjoyable one.

Overall I have no complaints.. well only one... we weren't there long enough,

So if you are looking for a great place to stay where you can do your own thing, then this is the place to stay.

Owner's Response: Repeat guests are common place at Dewberry, so Philippa & Co, welcome to the club!

A spacious villa in a lovely resort

Review Submitted: October 25, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
The owner was very helpful with directions before we arrived and with information during our stay. We particularly enjoyed the pool and spacious garden/pool area. The weather was great for the time of year and we were convinced that Melhiea was the best part of Malta to stay within close proximity to the ferries to Gozo and the Blue Lagoon, a very good beach within a mile or so from the villa and a number of very good restaurants in the main street of the town.

Shops were half a mile from the villa and were open till quite late. We tried about four restaurants in Melheia and they were all of a good standard, our favourite being Il Mitna. We hired a car but judging by the frequency of the buses, public transport appeared to be very good, so may not be essential.

We went to Marsaxlokk in the south which has a lot of small fishing boats and good fresh fish in the restaurants, Mdina was a lovely place to stroll around the old town. Popeye Village in the north-west was a good day out for children and there were good beaches at Golden Bay.

The owners were friendly but never obtrusive and we would definitely recommend the villa, particularly if you want an excellent pool to yourselves.
Owner's Response: Mellieha is a great location for those who prefer tranquility, yet not being "off the beaten track", therefore private and secluded, yet within reach of all amenities at the same time.

A dream come true

Review Submitted: October 12, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
I have always wished to travel to Malta on my motorcycle, I have now accomplished this. The icing on the cake was Dewberry Villa. What a fantastic place, with the added bonus of such great host,s in John and family. The villa was more than anticipated, the advertisement does not do it justice. Very clean with all the amenities one could wish for, located away from the madding crowd but within easy walking distance of Mellieha town, with all its resturants and bars. What ever style of eating you could wish for. I really cannot say enough re the villa and the holiday it was fantastic. I highly recommend the villa, Mellieha and Malta to anyone wishing for a relaxing carefree holiday.
Owner's Response: As always, we strive to "make dreams come true" and are happy to see that we do!

On our arrival at Dewberry Villa we were delighted to find it spacious, well equipped and comfortable. We had no problems settling in!The pool area was fantastic-and kept spotlessly clean by the owner John who, along with his wife Geraldine were friendly, helpful and informative(but never intrusive)-loved the football chat! The villa is in an ideal spot-close to the best beaches and the ferry to Gozo(also well worth a visit)but having a car makes it a great base for exploring the whole island. All in all we loved our stay here and would definitely return. We would also recommend it to family and friends.

Dewberry Villas

A beautiful villa fully equipped with all essentials. Friendly and helpful service provided by the owner and his family.
The garden is wonderful. In my opinion, although very spacious, the villas is best suited for 4 adults or a family of 4. More than this would mean that people would be sleeping in the living area.

I woulld recommend this villa and would consider staying here again.

Property need some maintenance and sound proofing!

There are some good points to this property, but there are some less than good points too.

Before we arrived at the property, I have to thank the owner for his general assistance, which was boundless.

To add substance to this review, we usually holiday in a private villa and unfortunately this property was very far from private.

On the good side, the property is roomy and the owners have clearly spent a good deal of effort adding delightful touches such as organza blinds, hand carved furniture and ornaments from around the globe. There is very little that would strike you as package holiday about the place.

The kitchen is large though very basic in content and there are two good size bedrooms with full storage though I doubt very much you would be able to accommodate anywhere near 9 people-especially at an extra cost of £50 extra pp per week

The 2nd bathroom is actually outside though joined to the property, which is not clear from the website

The property is reasonably close to a local supermarket/ shops/restaurants/water park albeit there was very little open due to the earliness of the season/disappointing weather.

Parking is available, once the owners/their family/friends/neighbours have advised where you can park, but the car was always usually quite close by.

On the down side, the house is below street level which means that most of it is shaded throughout the day with very little natural light and in early seasons it stays cold!

The property was in good need of maintenance, from broken taps/sink wastes/the kettle was full of lime scale/the bath was very badly cracked which is a nightmare when have a 7mth old baby. The sheets were more than well worn and crockery was mismatched and chipped. This really does let the owners down.

Our low score however comes from the noise from them which was intolerable at times and while living in an property made largely of concrete will increase 'usual' noise YOU CAN'T EXCUSE the slamming of doors at all hours and the owner washing as early as 6 am and past midnight, when the washing machine is only 10 feet from the kid?s bedroom. She washed every day regardless!

That said people seem to holiday here year upon year so if you can put up with that noise, then enjoy the finer points of the apartment.

As for the island, no-one told us that Mellieha Bay is in the windiest part of the island and therefore suffers from harsh and changeable weather early in the season. Bring a jumper!
Owner's Response: We unfortunately cannot "arrange the weather" and yes, it is unfortunate to be on holiday at the end of winter having to experience rain and wind sometimes, but nature is in command in that department. It is however a good idea to bring "a jumper" in winter as Malta does have to endure temperatures of 15C sometimes during that period (end March - early April) and more often temp. of around 23C.
As with all bookings, we make it a point to make it with big groups that the apartment is best suited for a party of 4 (as was this case) though with 200 sq mtrs of floorspace, it can easily accomodate more if the guests are willing to share space and the more than comfortable sofa beds available.
The apartment is well shaded, as pointed out, a very big plus point during our long enjoyable summers. Parking is free and very safe and easy and the neighbours share the available space with courtesy and politeness at all times and our guests obviously are expected to reciprocate. The 2nd bathroom is strategically positioned near the BBQ area and pool for the comfort of our guests who have the exclusive use of these ameneties. Bed linen during winter are warm flannel type in winter and cotton in summer, the most suited for the time of year and always in perfect, clean condition. Comfortable bed quilts are also available, along with gas and electric heaters should they be needed.
The apartment is situated at ground level as is the pool, garden and barbeque areas. The design of the sheltered areas are typical with most buildings built for warm Meditteranean climates with all living rooms having windows overlooking the pool and barbeque area built on approx 600 mtrs of landspace ensuring the maximum amount of exposure to sunlight where it is needed and bedrooms strategically located in more cosy and secluded areas. The fact that we live on the overlying villa has always been an advantage for our guests and full privacy is always guaranteed, though our guests always have the peace of mind that we are always there to help and assist should the need ever arise.

I stayed at Dewberry Villa with a group of friends in December and had a lovely holiday. The villa is fantastic and has everything that you need, including swimming pool and bbq! We were really impressed.

John is very helpful and made our stay so much easier. He arranged our airport transfers for us, taxis and also our rental car while we were in malta. He also gave us plenty of information about what to see and do on the island.

I would definately recommend staying at Dewberry Villa!!

Fantastic Villa

I was not going to write this review purely for selfish reasons. I wanted to keep this hidden gem a secret but I decided to share it so other people could experience this delightful villa.
John, Geraldine and the boys will make you feel welcome and relaxed from day one, nothing is too much trouble for this delightful family.
The villa is excellent, all rooms very spacious, light and spotlessly clean with modern facilities. The Dewberry is one of the only properties on Santa Maria with its own lawned garden, excellent pool/jacuzzi area.
The outside bbq was a godsend on balmy nights with a cold glass of wine with the great company of John and Geraldine.
All together, top marks in every department!!!
This year will be our third stay here, can't wait.
We have stayed on Santa Maria for the last 16 years and have found The Dewberry villa to be one of the best we've found.
Owner's Response: Our satisfaction is seeing that our guests have enjoyed their stay and that the property meets all of their requirements and expectations. To be completely honest, we appreciate reading good feedback as it motivates us to go the extra mile!

I went last year with my family. ageing from 10-61! and we had a great time. The pool was cracking. The kids was in the pool from the moment they woke up! and I had to drag them out so we could do some visiting! John and Geraldine are such nice people and they really make you feel welcome. I would recommend a stay at Dewberry Villa. Its a must! We took away many fond memories.
Just simply wonderful.
