Property need some maintenance and sound proofing!

There are some good points to this property, but there are some less than good points too.
Before we arrived at the property, I have to thank the owner for his general assistance, which was boundless.
To add substance to this review, we usually holiday in a private villa and unfortunately this property was very far from private.
On the good side, the property is roomy and the owners have clearly spent a good deal of effort adding delightful touches such as organza blinds, hand carved furniture and ornaments from around the globe. There is very little that would strike you as package holiday about the place.
The kitchen is large though very basic in content and there are two good size bedrooms with full storage though I doubt very much you would be able to accommodate anywhere near 9 people-especially at an extra cost of £50 extra pp per week
The 2nd bathroom is actually outside though joined to the property, which is not clear from the website
The property is reasonably close to a local supermarket/ shops/restaurants/water park albeit there was very little open due to the earliness of the season/disappointing weather.
Parking is available, once the owners/their family/friends/neighbours have advised where you can park, but the car was always usually quite close by.
On the down side, the house is below street level which means that most of it is shaded throughout the day with very little natural light and in early seasons it stays cold!
The property was in good need of maintenance, from broken taps/sink wastes/the kettle was full of lime scale/the bath was very badly cracked which is a nightmare when have a 7mth old baby. The sheets were more than well worn and crockery was mismatched and chipped. This really does let the owners down.
Our low score however comes from the noise from them which was intolerable at times and while living in an property made largely of concrete will increase 'usual' noise YOU CAN'T EXCUSE the slamming of doors at all hours and the owner washing as early as 6 am and past midnight, when the washing machine is only 10 feet from the kid?s bedroom. She washed every day regardless!
That said people seem to holiday here year upon year so if you can put up with that noise, then enjoy the finer points of the apartment.
As for the island, no-one told us that Mellieha Bay is in the windiest part of the island and therefore suffers from harsh and changeable weather early in the season. Bring a jumper!
Owner's Response: We unfortunately cannot "arrange the weather" and yes, it is unfortunate to be on holiday at the end of winter having to experience rain and wind sometimes, but nature is in command in that department. It is however a good idea to bring "a jumper" in winter as Malta does have to endure temperatures of 15C sometimes during that period (end March - early April) and more often temp. of around 23C.
As with all bookings, we make it a point to make it with big groups that the apartment is best suited for a party of 4 (as was this case) though with 200 sq mtrs of floorspace, it can easily accomodate more if the guests are willing to share space and the more than comfortable sofa beds available.
The apartment is well shaded, as pointed out, a very big plus point during our long enjoyable summers. Parking is free and very safe and easy and the neighbours share the available space with courtesy and politeness at all times and our guests obviously are expected to reciprocate. The 2nd bathroom is strategically positioned near the BBQ area and pool for the comfort of our guests who have the exclusive use of these ameneties. Bed linen during winter are warm flannel type in winter and cotton in summer, the most suited for the time of year and always in perfect, clean condition. Comfortable bed quilts are also available, along with gas and electric heaters should they be needed.
The apartment is situated at ground level as is the pool, garden and barbeque areas. The design of the sheltered areas are typical with most buildings built for warm Meditteranean climates with all living rooms having windows overlooking the pool and barbeque area built on approx 600 mtrs of landspace ensuring the maximum amount of exposure to sunlight where it is needed and bedrooms strategically located in more cosy and secluded areas. The fact that we live on the overlying villa has always been an advantage for our guests and full privacy is always guaranteed, though our guests always have the peace of mind that we are always there to help and assist should the need ever arise.
