Wonderful

Review Submitted: July 6, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
As has been said, the apartment is fantastic in a lovely spanish village. Loved sitting on the balcony at any time of day reading and watching the locals about their daily business eg. the horse handlers taking their horses up the hill in the morning and back down at night, listening to the music and feet stamping from the dance school. When walking to and from the centre of village you will pass the local women cleaning their doorstep and local men sitting on benches have a good old blether. The apartment is very quiet and we didn't hear any noise from other neightbours. Door to apartment was very stiff and we always worried that we were making too much noise as you had to close door with force but that is the only negative that we can think of. Would definately rent the apartment again if we were in the area again.

Owner's Response: Thankfully a little WD40 on the door seems to have done the trick,! ....Ian

Excellent apartment

Excellent apartment with facilities exactly as described in the profile. We enjoyed waking up to the view of the African coast on the horizon every morning.

Ian was very efficient in arranging our stay and the detailed instructions we received were very helpful - knowing the basics such as tea and coffee were provided on a replace what you use basis was good.

Convenient parking and the short walk into the village made the whole stay very relaxing.

I would happily recommend this apartment.

Feels very Spanish

We have visited Mijas Pueblo on a number of occasions but this was our first time on this side of the village. It feels much more like you are in Spain rather than a tourist destination. There is a Dance School just up the hill which provides lots of lovely Spanish music, foot stamping and castanet clicking.
The walk up to the village is slow and steady, so if you have mobility problems this maybe an issue. However, my 80 year old parents managed it. The first little bar by the side of the road, located under the 'White Bird' restaurant on the old square, is very good for coffee and a 'toasted sandwich'. Don't be fooled by the description, try one and enjoy. We also found the Parros Bar to be relatively low key despite the laminated menu.
Beware if you are hiring a car, as the Police have started to cordon off the access to centre of the village during the morning tourist rush. You can always get access by informing them where you are staying (so keep the details handy).
For those of you who like self catering and love seafood. Try the fish counter at the hipercor in Fuengirola (right at the Lidl roundabout) it is excellent and cheap.
The park by the bullring is a perfect place to sit in the heat of the day and you can reward yourself, for walking up there in the first place, with a little beer at one of the local bars. The apartments balcony also provides a shady retreat.
All in all, a well located and well stocked apartment. I would happily stay again and highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Just to confirm that the Police cordon is normally only at fiesta times, there is usually no problem with driving through the village...

A fantastic week in Mijas

If you want a very comfortable apartment with a fabulous view from your balcony from which you look over the village, neighbourhood and the Costa de Sol than go to Sierra Mar in Mijas. We were surprised by so much beauty when we were there in the first week of may 2009. We hired a car at Malaga-airport which we could park very nearby our apartment.
We have been to Sevilla, Ronda and made a very special walk in El Torcal de Antequera. We went to the beach en relaxed on the roof-top sun terrace. We visited the little shops and restaurants in the village with a typical Spanish atmosphere. The flamenco-sound that was produced by the music-school several hours a day around the corner, did us realise that we realy were in Spain. We liked the wine and the sangria. We have appreciated the personal attention of Ian in the e-mails that we have sent each other in order to arrange the booking, payment, the keys, etc. We had a little problem in finding the exact place of the garage and of the second entrance to the swimming pool (that will be an ever lasting secret for us).
We have enjoyed our stay in Sierra Mar very much. We will recommend the apartment to friends and family.

Fabulous!

Spent the week before Christmas in Mijas - apartment is stunning. By far the best I have been to anywhere in Europe. Good value too. Beautifully & tastefully furnished, immaculately clean and as others have mentioned a bottle of chilled Cava most welcome after braving Easyjet. All mod cons available - dishwasher, washing machine, CD player (Bose!!) and British telly. Also a good selection of DVD's lying around as well. Take some with you if you want to watch them. And take your own CD's as well. Beds wonderfully comfortable, and lovely deep bath.

Perfect location for the village - only a short 10 minute walk into town; Mijas is a beautiful village with some great bars, restaurants and some great little shops. The view from the balcony is wonderful.

Car parking downstair - and great day-trips around the area. Central Malaga is wonderful - a greet little find, which fortunately most UK visitors avoid.Calle Larios is beautiful. Ronda is well worth a trip, and it is only an hour by the brilliant train service up to Cordoba.

Excellent flat ad great base to explore this part of Spain. No hesitation is recommending this rental.

Mijas Apartment April 2009

Review Submitted: April 26, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
A lovely, well presented apartment located 10 minutes walk from the centre of this traditional village with all the modern conveniences that you'd expect to make it home from home. The views are even better from the roof-top sun terrace! The parking facility is also very useful as parking can be at a premium in Mijas and it keeps the car cool. Fuengirola & Benalmadena are easily reached if you have a car. Both have excellent beaches and a cold cerveza after a stroll around Paloma Park in Benalmadena is recommended, particularly if you have kids. If you get the chance, stay here when there is a festival on in Mijas - the evening processions made great viewing as you'll not see anything like them in the UK. We found the Es Canuela (its like a pub) food to be very good which is located along the road you drive in along to get to the apartment. The Chinese Restaurant is also good. Overall, an excellent place to stay and Ian's communication/admin etc. were first class which counts for a lot when booking privately. We'd have no hesitation recommending holidaying here. Read the other reviews prior to booking this appartment, agree with all their comments, appartment in very good location, and extremley well presented, great views from the balcony, beds very comfortable and of course spotlessly clean, sound system was a Bose unit very impressive. It's a 10 minute walk into the village where one can savour the atmosphere of Mijas. We prefered on occasion, to go into Fuengirola on the local bus, where more choice was available for eating and drinking. If you like animals visit the zoo, absolutely wonderful. Would highly recommend this appartment and the village of Mijas for a holiday, we will be back.

Excellent appartment and location

Review Submitted: January 6, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Mijas is a delightful, colourful, traditional style Spanish village, where locals and tourists alike, do not feel the urge to rush about their business. It is set on a hillside with distant views towards the coast . From here it is hard to believe that there are all-action resorts on this distant coastal strip! This immaculate apartment is very well equipped from dishwasher to UK TV access. If you enjoy village life; walking and exploring the local network of byways; waking up to spectacular views; sipping a glass of wine as the evening sun settles behind the far-off hills, then this apartment will very much fit the bill. All in all, a great place to relax and unwind!

The apartment was well located with a great balcony and excellent views over the ocean. It was clean and in excellent order. Set in the attractive village of Mijas it was only a few minutes walk up a steep hill to the many excellent restaurants/bars and shops. We will definately stay there again.
