Casa Mauri

Waga Mama North Wales
Review Submitted: May 6, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
We had a lovely holiday at Casa Mauri in 2008. We stayed in the cottage which looked out on to a private court yard. It was very clean and well maintained. It is suituated in a small village on top of a hill so the veiws are fantastic. It is quiet and well away from the crowds - just how we like it Anne and Mike were great and have done some amazing renovations to the farmhouse and cottage which they did themselve! They were there to meet us and help us with our bags and answered any questions we had throughout the holiday-they were extremely helpful and friendly and always available when we needed them. The area is so beautiful. We visited the national park which is about a one to one and a half hours drive away and walked in the local area. There are plenty of activities such as water sports, horse riding. swimming etc to do, We had no trouble filling our days and the lakes are lovely if you just want to relax. There are places to eat out locally or further afield. Some are very basic others more up market its best to ask Anne and Mike as they have a good idea of the local eating places. We don't eat meat so it was more of a problem for us to find want we wanted but there is a perfectly good kitchen in the cottage which we made use of and a lovely balcony to eat out on. There's a good market where you can buy food. If you like the out doors its a brilliant place to be and children will love it. There's a lot of adventure and exciting things to do. We went with our teenage son who had a wonderful time. We have already recommend Casa Mauri to our friends and relatives and although we have a rule of never visiting a place twice we would definately return to Cas Mauri which is situated in a very stunning part of the world. From 3 outdoor loving people.

Casa Mauri

We were very pleased with the quality of the accomodation. The property was very clean. The self-catering facilities are excellent along with a wood fire for those cold winter evenings! We were particularly pleased with the fact that our dog was welcome. If you like the outdoors you'll enjoy your stay here. The village is small and very quite(no facilities). You are only about 15-20 mins from the nearest town for supermarkets, restaurants etc.The views from this small hill topped village are fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We'd certainly recommend it to anyone who is into the outdoor life. Excellent value for money!

A little bit of Heaven in the Pyrenees

Igloo Cornwall, UK
Review Submitted: May 7, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2008
A superb place to get away from it all and to enjoy the splendid solitude and magnificent scenery. Very comfortable accommodation and a very warm welcome from Mike and Anne who take a personal interest in making one's stay so special. An ideal place for those who enjoy bird-watching, walking, and exploring this part of the Spanish Pyrenees. We have spent three very happy holidays there and hope soon to return for another visit as soon as we are able.

Our holiday in Casa Mauri

Sue and Jens Wetherby, West Yorkshire
Review Submitted: May 6, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
The property is beautiful, on the top of a mountain. The owners provided alot of information regarding walks and places to visit in the area. There was lots to do:from walking to White Water Rafting. The Lake at the bottom of the hill is great for swimming safely for the children. We had wonderful weather and could have spent the whole time in the lake. It was so much better than being with the crowds on the Spanish coast. Totally idyllic.
We saw many wonderful birds - especially birds of prey.
The only negatives was that it was perhaps too hot for us in mid August.

Casa Mauri, Santa Engracia

Review Submitted: May 5, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
We loved this place so much that we visited a second time, in March this time (our first visit was in July.) We've now stayed in most of the property that is available for guests and it was all really comfortable - almost a home from home. It's one of the few Spanish houses we have stayed in that has a lovely warm bathroom in winter!! The position of the house at the top of the mountain is outstanding, and the views are lovely. Anne and Mike are super people, they made us feel so welcome and we were sad to leave.

We would highly recommend this property - as long as you can manage the path up the mountain from the car park (the last few hundred yards). And the surrounding area is very picturesque - if you like mountains this is the place to come!!

Owner's Response: There is no car access into the village of Santa Engracia itself. From the car park at the base of the village a wide paved street leads uphill into the village, a distance of 300m or 400m.

We first discovered Casa Mauri in 2000 and have returned on many occasions and in all seasons. The description of the property cannot do it justice you really have to visit to fully appreciate the location and beauty of both the accommodation and the surrounding area. It is a haven for walkers, bird watchers, photographers, naturalists and those who only wish to chill out. The property is immaculate and Anne and Mike are not only excellent hosts but go out of their way to make everyone's holiday that extra bit special. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to people of all ages.

A Magical Christmas

SkyeGrace Isle of Skye, Scotland
Review Submitted: January 1, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Last year we came for New Year which was wonderful so this year we decided to come for Christmas. And it was even better.

Yes the weather was great - on Christmas Day we walked to Rivert and had a picnic in the sun wearing shorts and t-shirts! Then on Boxing Day it snowed and we had a wonderful afternoon making a snowman on the way to the Hidden Village.

But it is not just the weather which made our trip so special. The farmhouse is a perfect base with everything you need. The rooms are cosy and well decorated. The amount of effort put into renovating the building is amazing - there are photos to prove it!

And there are great walks straight from the house. One day we went up to Plate Verde - it was a gorgeous day and we watched vultures soaring above the hills.

Mike and Anne are warm and welcoming and do those small things which make a visit special. For example, knowing we are interested in wildlife and especially otters, they had found a book which they thought would interest us. Another special personal touch was the Christmas tree sitting in the corner of the room when we arrived.

They have a guide book they have written on the walks around the house and there is no end of choice right from the door. So you have plenty to occupy yourself without having to drive anywhere.

As a family we love peace and quiet and this house is perfect for us. Our children are now 24, 18 and 16 and yet they still want to come with us to Santa Engracia. Would they have been happy here when they were small - yes without a doubt - all you need is the ability to make your own fun and enjoy nature.

We have stayed in many self-catering houses and this has to be one of the best.

We will have to come back one day as we still haven't been to Gurp and Mike promises us that there is a brilliant cave there!

Que lugar tan estupendo! (I don't yet know enough superlatives in Spanish to say what I want to!) The scenery and the meals couldn't have been better, the weather too. Fantastic views from the terrace by day and by night. Thankyou for a super time and for making us feel so welcome.
Absolute top spot. One of the best hols we've had. Took a crowbar to get me out of here.
We have had the most wonderful time in this beautiful and peaceful place. All the comments about the incredible achievement of Mike and Anne in creating this haven are more than justified. What, however, is so amazing is their ability to spoil you with their endless kindness without in any way being intrusive- a remarkable gift. (Crispin Blunt MP)
All good things must come to an end. Alas we should have booked for a longer stay.
Wow! Not only the Pyrenees but also simply the best self-catering accomm. we have ever stayed in.
Atmosphere, views, tranquility, food and hospitality that will not be forgotten or beaten.
