Fantastic La Bomba

jposu Auckland
Review Submitted: August 3, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
Our stay at La Bomba was fantastic. Its the perfect location for exploring the surrounding villages, vineyards, cities and sites. The house and grounds are wonderful and Sam and his wife have done an amazing job of renovating this charming old house. It's beautifully kept and each of the rooms have a unique character making it hard to choose which one to stay in if you're first to arrive! Sam was also extremely helpful and had some great recommendations. We spent several days lounging around the pool and going for walks through the beautiful countryside as well as making several day trips to visit the nearby medieval cities, local markets and national parks. With two full-size kitchens its also perfect for preparing large meals together using all the great food you buy at the markets!
La Bomba is also very secluded with only a single neighbour nearby who are also kind and helpful if required. This seclusion does mean that you really need a car but the 10 minute drive to nearest supermarket is through lovely rolling hills and farm land and never felt like a chore. The house itself also has several great lounges and sitting rooms making it perfect for eating and having fun when its cold out side.

We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it which Sam was kind enough to accommodate. We will definitely be back to stay again when we're able!
Owner's Response: So good to hear you had a great time. Look forward to having you back at La Bomba.

Super family holiday home

Alilouise London
Review Submitted: September 17, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Overall an excellent property and ideal for large groups.

The facilities are as described on the website - there is an excellent pool and all the rooms are large, attractively decorated and individual. The house is huge as well, meaning screaming kids at one end don't disturb sleeping kids at the other!

The garden, while very well kept, isn't quite as big as you might think from the photos but is plenty big enough - we set up a badminton net and had plenty of room to spare.

The village of Saint Paulet is tiny and has nothing in it - literally no commercial premises at all - so if you want coffee, bread or a wander around shops you have to travel a short distance by car although there is a bread delivery to the house three times a week.

The immediate surrounding area is very rural and is lovely - rolling hills dotted with tiny villages. It's great for cycling and walking and the stream at the bottom of the garden makes for a nice walk through the trees.

We took day trips to Castelnaudery (typical, pleasant French town), the lake (good for swimming and a nice walk), Carcassonne (stunning and well worth a visit, if a tiny bit 'theme park' for my liking), Saint-Felix (small but very nice village for a coffee and a stroll) but mostly just stayed around the pool for two weeks.

The house is great for children; our party included three children under one, one two-year old and one four-year old and they all had a ball and it was very safe (although we never really worked out the pool alarm!).

If I had one complaint it was that the place could have been cleaned better. I know it's a rural property but it didn't seem to have been professionally cleaned before we arrived. This didn't spoil the holiday and, in fairness, we didn't complain and given how responsive the owner was on other things prior to our trip I'm sure he would have done something about it had we mentioned it.
Owner's Response: So pleased you had a good time and made full use of the pool, the badminton and everything else. It's such a lovely spot and we are always so happy to hear our renters enjoyed the house. Thank you very much for your comments too - I'm always very keen to have feedback so we can keep making La Bomba the perfect holiday home. Will look into that one issue you had and will do everything possible to make sure it doesn't happen again. Haven't had that raised before but always very useful to know. Thank you again for booking and we'd love to see you again at La Bomba one day.

Family Holiday at La Bomba

The Gols Hertfordshire, UK
Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
Lot's of space for 12 people. Those who wish to find a quiet corner to read a book or just relax can do so in the wonderful grand salon whilst the rest of the group whoop it up in the pool, etc. The bedrooms are very spacious and nicely furnished. We had to share a shower with our son and his wife as the ensuite attached to our bedroom only had a bath but it wasn't a problem. We had young children with us and it was difficult at times to find enough shade for the outside eating area but we understand from the owners that this problem has now been addressed and a pergola has been erected with climbing plants which will provide shade. There are some nice gentle walks close by along the side of the canal (suitable for strolling with a buggy) and, of course, plenty to see and do within easy driving distance. We tried to book La Bomba again this year but unfortunately the dates we wanted had already gone but we certainly will go back for another family holiday.
Owner's Response: Very pleased to hear you had a good time at La Bomba and we look forward to having you back again. Sorry you couldn't book for this year but we do tend to get booked up early for the summer hols.

And yes, we've rectified the shade issue with a new outside dining terrace complete with a roofed iron-worked pergola surrounded by climbing roses and jasmine. Bliss!

La Bomba

Bronson Skibbereen, Co. Cork, Ireland
Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
La Bomba is a large old farmhouse in its own ample private grounds, tastefully and well converted. It more than adaquately accomodated our party of 10. The patio area leading to the swimming pool is a lovely space with the option of dining in the open or under a shady canopy. The pool is handily adjacent to the house and patio and there is a nice grassed area surrounding the pool on three side where we erected the much-used badminton net.
The grande salon is a lovely large vaulted room with a large traditional fire place suitable for indoor dining but converted by our super-active party into a table tennis room which witnessed many formidable contests.
One disappointment was the absence of bicycles which would have been well used if available.
The house is surrounded by very attractive corn, maze and sunflower growing farmland and is more a working agricultural area and less touristy than Provance-and none the worse for that!.The surrounding villages are attractive if quiet and overall the area exudes a sense of the real France and is a wonderfull area to relax and unwind.

Viva La Bomba!

AAMRC Scotland
Review Submitted: July 15, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
La Bomba completely lived up to and exceeded the descriptions on its web-site. It has been beautifully renovated in a sophisticated style yet appropriately simple for the warm climate. It is wonderfully spacious which makes it perfect for two families, or different generations as there is ample inside and outside space to "absorb" different sleep patterns or daily routines without one impinging on the other. The kitchen was brilliantly equipped, with masses of fridge space, the sheets were linen, the pool is right by the house with lots of loungers, grass lawn is kind to little feet, ... important stuff! Fantastic easy walks and bike rides from the house too. The owners could not have been more accommodating despite an embarrassing amount of requests and queries in advance on our part due to a large party and coming and goings. We cannot recommend it highly enough. Having been to Provence the area is delightfully tranquil by comparison. One gets the feeling this is the real rural France. The trade off is that the "markets", shopping etc is not as tourist orientated or omnipotent and hence less easy to find. Exploration is still the order of the day! Great if you have the time and are unconstrained by children's sleep & eating patterns - but a bit of research beforehand and a decent guidebook would pay dividends. We very much hope to return and find out more!

Just returned from 2 weeks at this property. It has been tastefully restored and decorated to a very high specification, and is well maintained. Lovely pool and terraces for outdoor living. Located in very quite and tranquil setting, in the heart of beautiful and unspoilt area of France. All as described on website. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
