We found Zen on the internet after several searches for hotels etc when we were planning our trip to NYC. We found Zen to be a very economical option and upon arrival we found our hostess (Jaleelah) to be very friendly and helpful in getting us settled and making us feel welcomed and relaxed. The apts were quite spacious, well apointed and very clean and we really felt like we were staying at our own place since we basically had the whole two upper levels to ourselves. The neighbourhood is quite trendy and comfortable and we felt very much at ease no matter where we were. There are a lot of local 'mom and pop' restuarants withing 5-20 mins walking distance serving up anything from west african, caribian, mexican and cuban cuisine to pizza. Local deli's (try Provisions on Fulton) and organic markets provide the staples. Do try Choices, Not Rays Pizza, Soule, Deniz's and Habana Outpost (ask Jaleelah for locations but all are within walking distance). In addition the subway is one block away then your 30 mins from Times Square and about 40 mins to Coney Island and Birghton Beach and 25 mins to Bedford / Wiliamsburg in Queens. If you've never been to NYC before you are in for a real surprise ... the people are very friendly and you'll always get help if you need directions or want a good recommendation on where to eat.
We would definately stay at Zen again.

A Brooklyn Getaway

When i think of a 'weekend getaway' the quaint countryside and fresh mountian air comes to mind. Now thanks to Zen at Brooklyn Hospitality I am adding Brooklyn, New York in the summertime to that list. Everything about my trip was picture perfect! From the greeting i recieved from the hostess to biking riding in nearby parks. I always felt relaxed in my surroundings. Now lets talk food! The local resturants on Fulton street can compete with any upscale eatery in the City. Which by the way is a hop, skip and a jump, using any mode of transportation. All in all I had a wonderful relaxing time at Zen. Just what the doctor ordered! See you on my next getaway.

We had a great time. Jaleelah was wonderful. After a great night of salsa dancing (which Jaleelah recommended), we were met with salsa music and a wonderful bottle of Puerto Rican Rum, so the fun continued.... The place was immaculate and well decorated. We will definitely return.

The house is clean and well-provided. We enjoyed the stay there.
However for 7 persons is the kitchen to small. We never cooked over there.

Lovely apartment, welcoming owner

The apartment was just as I hoped it would be. Beautifully decorated and the most comfortable beds make this a really relaxing environment - perfect after a hard day's sightseeing or shopping!

The owner of the property lives in the top part of the building. We didn't see her much, but she made it clear that if we had any problems we could call her. She was very helpful and gave us some tips on transport and places to go.

The apartment is a two minute walk from the subway for the local train service (trains that stop at every station); but a 15 minute walk from the station that services express trains. There tended to be more express trains at night so we did have to walk home in the dark from that station. This might be a little un-nerving if you've never lived in a big city before as there are lots of people hanging about on the streets, a few drunks etc. But at no point did I feel unsafe and we were not bothered by anyone at all. I only mention it as this would not be a suitable place for a group of naive young people to stay on their own.

There was a supermarket at the end of the street and a chinese takeaway that never closed so you're fine for food!

I would definetly go back. Although staying in Manhatten would have been cool there is no way would have found a place as nice as this for our budget. The 20 minute subway journey into town was entirely worth it to stay somewhere so lovely.

My family had a very pleasant stay. Brooklyn Bedding & Spa is clean and close to the subway; the service is friendly. What more can one ask for?
