Fantastic!!

Sun lovers Jan and Mike Scarborough, England
Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
My family and I have just returned from a wonderful August holiday in Cyprus. We stayed at Doreen's beautiful villa for two weeks and none of us wanted to come back home.
There was my husband and I together with my pregnant daughter and her husband and their 18 month old baby girl. Doreen arranged a travel cot for the baby and also put us in touch with a car hire company as you definitely need a car.
The villa is in a quiet village - Kathikas - up in the hills near Pathos. The accommodation was clean and very spacious. It was fantastic to have our own pool to cool off in as the temperature was in the upper 30s all the time. Thank goodness for the air con!!
We love to cook for ourselves as my husband travels around staying in hotels most of the working week and so he enjoys home cooking. Dispite that fact that there was only limited cooking utensils and containers we managed to enjoy many bbqs and home cooked meals. It would have been useful to have a larger pan and also some ovenware. The only other problem was the vacuum cleaner was not able to cope with cleaning the rugs - I think a replacement was necessary.
The pool was cleaned twice a week by a lovely English man who was a mine of information about the area. You have to be up early to catch him though.
We enjoyed many days out - particularly good were the water park at Pathos (though it was a complete rip-off as you couldn't take your own drink or food and cost about £100 per couple for the day) however it was a fantastic day out. Also we visited the local donkey sanctuary, the local wine tasting establishment and the bird and animal park. We also travelled further afield to the south and north. The roads are brilliant - no worries there.
For a sandy beach with good water sports activities we really favoured Coral Bay - it is lovely and there are some good restaurants there too.
When we got home I sorted out my photos to show the rest of the family and my other daughter who lives in Finland and her husband and my 2 teenage grandsons can't wait to get in touch with Doreen and try to book the villa for next year. I have no hesitation in recommending it to them or anyone else. Just hope it doesn't get so busy we can't go back!!!

Owner's Response: We appreciate all comments by our reviewers and recommendations are welcome and will be acted upon to enhance the comfort of our guests holiday.

The vacuum cleaner is due for replacement in 2010 and more kitchen utensils will be made available.

Little gem

Holiday 2009 Cheshire
Review Submitted: November 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
What a fantastic place to stay! The sun shone all holiday and the location was ideal for the beach and places to eat out in the evening. With Polis and Latchi centre nearby there is just the right mix of things to do. If your after a peaceful and relaxing place to stay to re-charge the batteries this is it!

Nothing was too much trouble for the owners. Clean, will kept property with a great pool, just booked again for next year and can't wait.

Thank you Doreen and John for a fantastic time.

Great relaxing holiday

Fantastic villa clean comfortable and well looked after. Lovely clean pool and incredible location within walking distance of the centre of Kathikas. The village restaurants are all of good quality and extremely welcoming, also recommend Michael’s kebab takeaway. Ideally situated away from the tourists but within easy reach of Coral Bay, Latchi and Polis. The property owner is well organised, even arranged car hire and excellent boat trip! Highly recommended.

Our week in May 2009

After reading the last four reviews, I wondered what I could add to sum up the time we had there. Sometimes reviews can be slightly misleading and your left wondering what the property is going to be like when you actually arrive!! We just cannot fault a single thing about it-all the previous reviews are spot on.

We had a fantastic, totally chilled out holiday and can't wait to return in the near future.

It was BRILL!!

Ideal location

This was not our first stay in Kathikas but was our first stay in this villa and it was excellent and hope to return in the near future. Everything we wanted for a relaxing holiday. The villa was very clean and comfortable. We spent most of our time around the pool. The roof terrace is a great place to go as we got a slight breeze. The village restaurants and shop are only a short walk away and we tried them all, with no complaints about any. The food was good and everyone we met were very friendly..The owner of this property were very prompt with the answers to any questions we had prior to arrival. We would highly recommend this property.

Brilliant and restful family holiday

Review Submitted: November 4, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We stayed in this villa last week - myself and my wife, and two children, ages 10 and 5.
The villa is, literally, a luxury villa, you walk straight into the lounge area, which has high ceilings, and a great feeling of space. There's a TV (which had a slightly dodgy reception, but that's being sorted apparently- and who watches TV on holiday?), and comfy sofa and chair. The dining room is in the same space, with a lovely table and chairs. Kitchen is well stocked, with everything you need. The lounge area has a nice air conditioning unit, which was great if the weather got too warm.
The bedrooms are clean and spacious, with their own climate control units, and there are two bathrooms, which is a real luxury on holiday, especially with two kids. One had a bath also, which is far easier for a 5 year old!
The pool is excellent, if a bit chilly at this time of year(early Nov), and cleaned often - we had a few chats with the pool guy, who was great for local info.
The patio area is restful, and in full view of the sun. There is also a roof terrace, which is a bit of a sun trap!

Kathikas village, which you can walk to in no time, is VERY authentic, and very very friendly. There are a number of tavernas, some that look so authentic I probably wouldn't go in them anywhere else, but the people that own them are so friendly, and the food is beautiful and well priced. The Mesi that they serve is a bit like tapas, and is an amazing antidote to the general greasy food we get served in this country!
We came away from these places knowing the names of the owners, and we're not the most outspoken family.
There is a shop in the village which sells most things you need, and a couple of quiet bars where you can watch the football with locals - again not something I'd have done anywhere else, but they make you feel very welcome.
It turns out Kathikas has been a stop off for travellers for years, between the coasts, so the locals are used to us!
It's really the first time we've been anywhere that you can emerse yourself in the local culture, without having 'brit' stuff thrown at you.
You need a car to travel to Kathikas, and around the island, as it's 10 K's up a mountain. Coral Bay has some great sandy beaches and decent bars and resturants, so a car is essential to get there, it's about 20 minutes away.
Latchi is great too, a really classy harbour and shops. We went out on a sailing boat which was brilliant.
Overall, excellent, very highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Kathikas is a very friendly village and the locals both Cypriot and Brits living there make you very welcome. You almost feel like a long lost relative.

The comment on the TV is correct but is being looked at now and will be put right very soon.

I would thoroughly recommend this property, its up high in the hills, which gives you a pleasant breeze while sitting in the sun. The accommodation is well appointed and very spacious. The local people are friendly and there are plenty of restaurants in the area to give a variation of venues.

Mutalos Gardens

Cazzy Caerphilly
Review Submitted: December 26, 2007 Date of Stay: July 2007
This is a greatly overdue review, but I felt the need to share the information with others thinking of booking this property! My family, including our 2 girls (14 & 9) had the most restful holiday at Mutalos Gardens in the summer. The house is very well equipped and appointed with almost everthing that you might need including two bathrooms which were particularly welcome at rush hour! As each room has its own air conditioning unit, the house was constantly cool. The outside pool was also in constant use by all members of the family and was cleaned twice weekly by Rob who was a mine of information and very helpful. The house is situated in a very peaceful cul de sac on the edge of the village of Kathikas, which if you choose to eat out has a number of excellent quality tavernas. However, another plus for us was the gas bbq which was used almost nightly, enabling the girls to stay in the pool for as long as possible and us to cook and sample the local wine at leisure. This house is a perfect haven for those seeking peace and tranquility and wishing to recharge their batteries. There is plenty to see and do in the local area, although this may be rather difficult without a car! We flew from Cardiff to Larnaca, where we picked up our hire car. The drive to Kathikas took us about two and a half hours, including a stop off at a local supermarket to pick up a few provisions for that night. A big thankyou to John and Doreen for renting out their house-this certainly ranks up amongst the best family holidays that we have ever had. We certainly hope to return in the future.

Owner's Response: We are always pleased when we get feedback like this it makes it all worthwhile. We have had many satisfied guests who have returned time and time again.

Just quick mention that Paphos airport is only 30 minutes away.

We also plan to put central heating in this year for anybody who plans a winter stay.
