A beautiful and peaceful location

Review Submitted: August 12, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I cannot praise Il Mulino enough. Paul and Sofia the owners have created a truly beautiful property in a peaceful area of Tuscany. The fenced off pool and enclosed extensive grounds are ideal for young children to play safely. My daughter (aged 4) loved feeding the chickens and collecting eggs for our breakfast every day along with fresh veg and fruit from the allotment. She had plenty of space to run around and play ball, and she thoroughly enjoyed the swings and slide. The property itself was immaculate and clean with very good amenities and Gina the housekeeper even taught us how to make pasta! Paul and Sofia made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you so much for a very special holiday. We hope to return soon!

A great place to get away!

We stayed at Il Mulino for a week in April 2008 and can only recommend it. It is a fabulous property, beautifully renovated and cared for. We were made to feel very welcome by Paul and Sofia (and the dog too!). The kids (aged 4 and 2) loved the space, the open gardens to play in (in complete safety too), the playground equipment and most of all visiting the hens to collect eggs each morning. The surrounding area is quiet by Tuscan standards but full of hidden treasures, and the tourist sights of Siena, Florence and so on are within driving distance for day trips. Not to be missed is the pizza restaurant in the nearby village - perhaps the most unattractive building in the whole of Tuscany, but serving the most amazing pizzas! The only downside during our stay was the weather - overcast and somewhat rainy which meant we didn't use the swimming pool, but in spite of this we still had a fantastic holiday. We will return!

Owner's Response: Hi Chris. Thanks so much for your lovely review. I'm afraid we can't "order" weather for our guests, but if we could.......
I'm glad you had a good time and we, too, hope you return.
All the best! Paul.

It couldn't have been better! This place is great. The owners were extremely helpful and nice to us. Traveling with kids (age 5 and 4) is not easy, but this property had it all. The pool, the warmth, the location, even the animals! My kids enjoyed feeding them every day! We will definitely go back.

Lovely place

Il Mulino really is as good as it looks and sounds on the website. It is clean, well furnished and in beautiful surroundings. To collect eggs daily, scratch the pigs, stroke the sheep and pick fresh veg was, for us, idyllic. The pool is immaculate and safe for our 3 year old. The owners were there if you needed them but there was complete privacy if you wanted. They were very welcoming, very helpful and very nice. We will definitely return.

You must cycle along the Tiber, visit Mr Ghignoni's ice cream parlour and eat at the Castello di Sorci.

A small piece of tranquility

Review Submitted: August 18, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
I have now spent two visits at Il Mulino in 2007 and 2008. Both occasions were wonderful, staying in the beautiful setting of an old mill - I never tired of looking at the amazing beams which form such a large part of the charater and charm of the building.

Everything you might need is on hand should you want to cater for yourself. As an avid cook I was able to make some delicious dishes and didn't find my self lacking in facilities or utensils. For this occasions we wanted to dine out there are so many fantastic restaurants in the area you are spoilt for choice.

The whole area around Anghiari/Monterchi/Sansepolcro is very special - it is a bit of Tuscany which has remained unspoilt by excessive tourism and for this reason retains a unique charm which is hard to find. Il Mulino just adds to the experience - you are guaranteed a warm welcome from the owners, and although I knew they were on hand for any little problems or just as a source of local advice or knowledge, equally you were left alone to enjoy the peace and tranquility of an amazing setting. Try it for yourself - you won't be disappointed.

THE place to stay!

How could we have been so lucky as to find this hidden gem in on our first trip to Italy? The photos do not do justice to this beautiful property! Everything you could possibly need is provided, from a welcoming food basket with a bottle of local wine to a warming fire in the fireplace, even a trip to the local hospital with a translator provided by our wonderful host. (Let’s just say I “kissed” the ground I was so happy to be there -slipped getting out of the rented van) . I am mindly disabled to begin with but they made up the bed in the lower level for me and there is a bath there so I was just fine. As long as not wheel chair bound a disabled person would do fine here. This is the perfect place for vacationing whether you want to see all the beautiful sights and visit the quaint towns, go shopping and taste the wonderful restaurants (many within short drive), or just stay in, relax and enjoy the peace and serenity of the villa it’s all here. Our hosts could not have been better, making sure you have everything you need but at the same time not being in the least bit intrusive. The villa is immaculate, very nicely decorated, beds are comfy, rooms are spacious, baths are fabulous, satellite television and high speed internet, well stocked kitchen, and the best eggs you will ever eat (thanks to owners chickens). Oh and if you go during strawberry season be sure and get some fresh ones they are super. Do I sound like a travel agent or family member? Nope, I’m just one super happy guest. I would return any time of the year! (It was chilly and a bit rainy while we were there but didn't dampen the experiece a bit!) Ciao and grazie

We have been to this house many times now and always look forward to returning. It is so restful and beautiful that we are always so sad to leave.

The family are so kind and helpful and keep the whole place immaculate. Lots of places to go and see but we just love relaxing. Wehavealwaysbeen luck enough to catch the fire flies and it is one of the pleasures to sit out at night and watch them andlisten to the nightingales.

Now I have written this I feel quite homesick!!!!

We have just returned for our third visit to the wonderful Il Mulino and I have no doubt we will be back again soon . This wonderful home is immaculate and the attention to detail from the owners make it a reallly special place to relax and enjoy the beatiful surrounding . The grouds , garden and pool are all beautifully maintained and provide great , safe play areas for a young family .

There are plenty of bars , resturants and gelaterias within easy reach and the all the local towns are worth a visit for shopping , sightseeing , eating and drinking . The owners are really helpful in making recommendations and sharing the secrets that Tuscany has to offer .

Wonderful house in glorious location!

We really enjoyed a wonderful week at Il Mulino. We stayed in April and had some glorious sunny days. We loved the location and enjoyed visiting the local area. The house is lovely and we were made very welcome. We took some long walks from the house into the countryside which is something that we love doing. It was always a real pleasure to return to Il Mulino after a day sightseeing. It really was a home from home. It was very well equipped and I enjoyed cooking and preparing ingredients bought from the local markets. I loved the views, the birdsong and the peace and quiet.I would love to return again.

We return each year

We have Il Mulino booked for the last 2 weeks in May for the rest of our lives - it is our home in Italy - and we have no worries. The place is just perfect for our arrival, the grass is cut and the gardens manicured. The pool is clean and ready - nothing to do other than enjoy ourselves. 2008 will be our 8th consecutive year at Il Mulino. Friends come too - last year we had 2 additional couples who really enjoyed themselves. We love the local restaurants and supermarket where we are greeted like long lost friends! Paul and Sofia cannot do enough to help and Sam and Emily are just a delight. We walk, cycle and visit many local hill top towns and watch the world go by over another cappuccino or glass of vino. This villa is perfect for a quiet, relaxed, fantastic holiday. There is no fault honestly - fully recommended.
