Great place! Very relaxing and the house is stocked with just about everything you could need (except bourbon, but there is a plethora within the surrounding 50 miles)! We loved it and would recommend it to friends and family.

Owner's Response: You should try the cocktails at the bar on the dock on a warm day!!!!

July Vacation

Caroline & Jess Indiana
Review Submitted: August 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This was my first experience with "Home Away" it was a good experience overall with the website as well as the company who helped me book the vacation. The home was good. The pictures are a little out dated from what are posted on the website. It was actually really hard to find as far as the directions I got were not as accurate as it could have been, as well as the house was not marked as obviously as it could have been. We really enjoyed the view of the lake. The house did allow pets, which was AWESOME. We were able to bring our dog, which was really great. The lake was a little farther away that we had anticipated, and it's a man made lake which means there is a rocky drop off to the water, not a nice "shore line". We did everything that was recommended to us: Shaker Village, Old Fort Harrod, The drive in theatre, fishing, etc. It was all very nice and relaxing and really what we wanted.

My family had a blast!

This is a wonderful property and was everything we were looking for. We kept our boat in the covered slip and fished from the dock. Everyone enjoyed jumping off of the diving platform. Staying in a cabin/house with central air was a huge plus. My favorite was the huge screened-in porch overlooking the lake. Everything was very nice and well-maintained. I would recommend this property to friends and family and we will likely rent it again.

misleading and dirty

Di 5 GJ Indianapolis, IN USA
Review Submitted: June 18, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Unfortunately, this experience was the worst vacation get away we have ever experienced. The pictures and the description were very misleading. I do not believe any one even had been to that property for quite some time. The pier and bar were fillthy. The place was a whole mess. No cleaning had been done in a very long time. When we arrived at the front door I knew right then we were in for a long weekend. The front of the house was dirty and full of trash. The lawn had not been cut in weeks. There was laundry left in the dryer, the washer had gross "stuff" on it and so we never even used it. The sink had clean dishes left in it. The stove and oven were so filthy and had not been cleaned in several years and the refrigerator was so old it was not the greatest either. The floors in the kitchen and bathroom, I don't know the last time they had been swept or cleaned. Cobwebs were in the family room not touched for several months. This place was a total cesspool. The bedrooms, I am not quite sure the sheets had been cleaned and the bathroom toilet ran the entire time we were there. The table mid way down that the picture shows, well the cushions were completely ripped up and molded or just plain missing. There were not any steps of any sort to get all the way down to the pier and dock, you had to climb to rocks and work your way down. Once down, the piers were pretty shaky and getting on them was a trick. The dock below had so many filthy, broken chairs which no one could sit on and the bar to try and utilize it was utterly, disgustingly filthy. We had to call them after the first night to come and try and clean up the property a little so we could try and enjoy our time away. I would never recommed this property to anyone. The owners should be paying for us to stay there.
Owner's Response: Obviously these are miserable people. As anyone can see we have rented this home for 2 yrs and this is the first complaint. We respopnded to their need of new chair cushions and moved the dock for them since it had rained the week prior and there was some tree limbs in the water. We even drove them to another property and let them use the dock there and offered to have them stay and they declined even saying they would like to come back at a later date. The kitchen floor is brand new and the sheets are less than a year and are laundered everytime someone leaves. The grass had just been mowed the week before they came. We are inspected by the Mercer Co health dept regularly and just had an inspection 2 days before their arrival and passed with flying colors as we always do. The trash is removed upon departure of every guest and the majority of the furnishing are less than a year old. These people are obviously miserable and nothing we would have done would have made them happy so they chose to make up lies about the property. We are booked all Summer as we have been in the past and have never had any issues before.

Great get-away

Gator Girl Orlando, FL
Review Submitted: November 4, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
The house is the perfect get-away house. It was quiet and peaceful. It has a wonderful back porch with a table and chairs that overlooks the lake. Beds were comfortable and the living room areas were perfect for visiting and relaxing. The property owners and managers are great to work with. We were there in the fall when the trees were absolutely beautiful but I think it would also be a great summer house when the water would be warmer. Great house!

The perfect get away

Dee and Billy Taylorville IL. USA
Review Submitted: August 19, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
My husband and I along with our children spent the second week of August 2008 at this Herrington Lake home. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. The area is beautiful and peaceful. The home was very nice and we had everything we needed. After a long day in the water and enjoying the scenery we would end it with a walk on the mountain road or with a game of pool and a movie. We will tell others about this wonderful place to stay. We even drove to Lexington one evening and got in some shopping. A very short drive and worth it. The area is breath taking. The water was refreshing and very clean. It was nice to have it only a few steps away to enjoy. We did some boating as do many in this lake. Every one is very nice. We even got some fishing in. We do want to return again. Thank you so much for the perfect get away. We needed it and had a wonderful time. It was like a home away from home. Thanks! Dee and Bill and family.
