Wonderful home away from home

Dragonfly79 Germany
Review Submitted: October 21, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We stayed at this beautiful apartment for a week in October (two adults and a teenager) and would highly recommend it.
The owners are very kind and helpful, Jean-Marc even walked us to a grocery store on our first night and gave us great fitness advice after our morning jogs to Prospect Park.
The apartment itself is very clean and comfortable with beautiful hardwood floors, a spacious living room with a nice flatscreen TV, two cozy bedrooms and a bright bathroom. It's mostly quiet at night, especially for such a big city.
The area is gorgeous with its old brownstones and there are lots of little grocery stores and a big supermarket nearby, and two subway stations are within walking distance. We were never scared at night and people even greeted us on the street, which made us feel at home.
It's a little difficult finding places to go for a meal or a drink in the neighborhood if you don't want fast food, but Peaches on Lewis St., a 10-min-walk from the apartment, is a wonderful restaurant with great food that we would highly recommend (we went there twice because we loved the pulled pork sandwiches so much). Other nice restaurants can be found in Fort Greene which is just 2 or 3 stops on the subway.
Manhattan can be reached comfortably by subway within 20 mins but it is actually possible to walk all the way to downtown Brooklyn and cross Brooklyn Bridge from the apartment. Brooklyn itself has lots of things to offer, though, and it's great to just walk around and explore.
All in all, this apartment is perfect for people who want to experience more than just the touristy side of New York City. We would definitely choose it again.

Gorgeous apartment with lovely furnishings

Review Submitted: August 20, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
The apartment is decorated and furnished with attention to detail, and by this i mean things are not just slapped together as in many holiday rentals, and the owner obviously cares that you have a nice experience. both the double beds in the front bedroom were amazingly comfortable and the bedclothes and soft furnishings (extra pillows for reading etc) were of high quality. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and basic foods that others had left, to which we added some very expensive maple syrup! the bathroom was bright and very clean and new, although apparently we couldn't use the spa as it would leak into the downstairs apartment.

The only drawbacks to this apartment would be walking home from the subway late at night which I felt safe doing at the time as we were three people, but I have to say if it was just me or even two I would probably be a little scared as the walk is a number of blocks past dodgy looking bodegas and quiet streets. The owners were also a little terse and when we called them to fix the internet they made us feel like we were asking a lot of them. Also they left us a note asking us to turn out lights when we were not there, which quite frankly I thought was a little invasive that they were monitoring our movements enough to know that we were not actually inside just reading or doing some other quiet activity, not that I don't agree that leaving lights on unnecessarily is a waste of electricity, but I think if we forget and leave them on then that's really our prerogative as paying guests.

Overall I would recommend this place as it is a really good deal and very lovely - as long as you don't mind your landlords in the basement getting up in your business a little.
Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us. If there was any inconvenience to you aboiut the lights. We apologize. As you know we all have to do our parts in regards to saving energy. In the past we have had guest that left the lights and the AC on for days. Since we are energy conscious we usually ask all the guest to turn them off if they are not in use.
We are always appreciative that our guest take the time to review us.

Regards

Lucerne and Jean Marc

A very nice stay - Avis aux Québécois

Nicolaï Montreal, Qc
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
I recommend this appartment, and I want to add that staying in Brooklyn has given us another perspective on NY, away from the tourist crowd.
Owner's Response: It was a great pleasure having you all. We love the Quebec and love our guests from there.

Jean Marc especially likes talking to you because I am sure it broughtthe feeling of being home to him.

Thanks Lucerne and Jean Marc

Best Deal for New York Stay

The Lady V. Cincinnati,OH,US
Review Submitted: May 31, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
The description of the Brooklyn apt is pretty accurate. My family stayed May 7-13th. A beautiful time of year. The street is quite for the most part. The location is good. Not sure about the bus line because we had a rental car. Didn't like the fact the we had to move car to either side of street depending on the day of the way,but that's just NY. The apt. was clean. Furniture was a little out dated, but it held up. I wouldn't recommend the apt for people who have knee problems or problems with stairs. It is on the second floor of very small steep stairs. The second BR is very, very small, only room enough to sleep. I did enjoy may stay and I would recommend it to friends. My daughter-in-law really loved it. She is from New York born and raised in Brookyln. She seemed to think it was great. Considering the price of a NY hotel, this was a bargain.
Owner's Response: Dear Veronica;

Thank you for the review. The bus is only one block away the 52 that takes you to downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene and several train lines. The C train is a walk away as well.
I am sorry you felt the furniture dated but they are only a year old, most of my guest loved the place and never complained. I will look as I like for my clients to be very happy in the property. As far as the sizes of the bedrooms. The first one is a 10x12 and the second one is a 6x8 which is the standard brownstone layout throughout Brooklyn. The total square footage of 850 square feet.
We do try to offer the best that money can buy. A clean and comfortable is what can offer all of our guests.
We welcome your friends.

Enjoy the summer

- Appt very nice, well-maintained, clean and corresponding to the description. The appt is located in a quiet block with access to the Metro that will take you to lower manhattan in 15 minutes and 25 minutes to Midtown. This area has a few restaurants and a lot of groceries. Owners welcoming and helpful.

French experience in Brooklyn

Review Submitted: July 17, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
Appt well-maintained, corresponding to the description ( the 2nd bedroom is very small ), we enjoyed the living room. The owner is welcoming and helpful. I would not recommend this property for disabled people because of the stairs. Having a car is also helpful, Brooklyn is such a large city

Home away from Home

Fela London
Review Submitted: March 5, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
An excellent spacious apartment situated in quiet street close to the subway!! The apartment comprises very spacious bedrooms, living room and brand new bathroom. It was very easy to settle here - it very much feels like being at home (a home away from home), with access to cable and internet. As a guest you cannot wish for better owners, and all needs were met without much fuss. the apartment is very close to the subway, and Manahattan is 10 minute ride - which is very beneficial, if you want to go into Manhattan and do some sightseeing!!! Staying in New York has never been easier, I would definitely come back and stay here!! I would also recommend this to anyone wishing to enjoy New York in a great neighbourhood, with great amenities, but close enough to do the necessary touristy things!!!
