'We had such a good time at Chez les Rois-I really cant thank you enough for everthing you did to make it possible. Everything about the house, grounds, pool etc surpassed my expectations (which were pretty high anyway!). I don't think I've stopped raving about the place to anyone who wants to listen!' Sue and Iain Kiernan, Victoria, Australia. 'You certainly chose a fantastic spot for your home and we feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to share it with you.' Anne and John Ryman, Berkshire, Great Britain.

Our stay at Chez Les Rois

The owners were very welcoming and friendly.
The layout of the property worked very well for us. It was great having a separate building ie the barn, where we could house our teenagers, but also lthere were lots of extra downstairs rooms in the farmhouse, allowing lots of flexibility. The rooms were also very spacious, and well kitted out.
The option of two pools was a real winner for us too.
I loved the area, which was beautiful, but it would be no good for someone who was wanting lots to do.
It was great fun cycling each morning to the boulangerie, we did feel however, that there were not enough bikes available.
Highlights were relaxing around the pool, canoing from Aubeterre and visiting St Aulaye where there is a river beach.
I would happily return.

We are 4 families with kids of various ages and we could'nt have picked a better place to stay. The house and gardens are huge so there's plenty of room to be all together or find a quiet spot if you feel the need.
The hot tub was a big hit with the kids, they spent the week in a pack skipping from pool to hot tub to trampoline to watch a dvd and back to hot tub etc etc- it was difficult to get them away for a day out!
The net over the pool was a hit with the adults too for some energetic(?) games of water volleyball.
Our hosts Gail and Mike were fabulous, very welcoming and helpful(They solved our shortage of wine crisis on the fist night and we knew then that we'd get on great!)They gave us loads of information and help with booking things and left a couple of folders with useful info on places of interest, boat trips, markets, restaurants etc.
The only mistake we made was to leave Gails catering untill the last evening! The table was set by Gail and Mikes pool and we arrived to champagne, rum punch and a fantastic selection of appetizers. Delicious starters followed and the wine flowed leading up to the most enormous paella- the guys faces were a picture when they saw it! The kids were well catered for too with the advantage that they could go off and play in safety between courses.A fantastic evening was had by all - we just wish we'd discovered Gails cooking at the begining not the end of the week!

Our stay at Chez les Rois gave us full satisfaction with good hospitality and friendliness. We did after few hours not considered Gail and Mike as our hostes (what they absolutely were) but as friends, who from the beginning did their almost for we should have a great stay.
The house is charming, romantic and five stars at the same time.

Chez les Rois is a very good place to stay, if you are a big group. There are everything that you need. Plenty of room, some of them very romantic.
What we really like about the the place is, that it have keept its old look and havn't been too modinices. If was great to see the old pictures, from when you took over the place.
It was great that we didn't have to bring tavels, sheets, kitchen things. It left us space to bring home more wine and Cognac.
But what really differs from others summer recidence in France, is the hostes. We have never meet so much hospitality, willing to help and give good recomandations. Gail and Mike you have been fantastic. We felt that you were good freinds, that we were visiting.
We will absolutely recoment this to our freinds and collegues.

Excellent holiday experience

We spend two very nice weeks in Charente. Being a group of almost 20 people together and never experience it being crowded proves that the houses provide a lot of space and facilities.

We experienced an absolutely excellent service from our hosts and it increased the value of our stay significantly. Very open and friendly.

The two houses provided plenty of room and facilities. With access to two pools and jacuzzi everyone were able to enjoy and relax.

The surroundings are very nice, scenic and romantic. The inside of the houses are very stylish.

We are aware that the owners are constantly improving the inside and outside and in a few cases we experienced the need for this, however this does not change our overall assessment of an excellent holiday experience.

Large extended Family holidays with childen of all ages are a headache to plan at best. Look no further. Facilites here are great and the owners are more than helpful. You may even be invited to the pick of the veg garden. This place is a gem. Despite being inland, the beaches are only an hour or so away. Closer to home there are river and lake water sports for all ages. Would I go to Chez les Rois again ?...absolutely.

We rented Chez les Rois with two other families with a total of 7 children between us. Gail and Mike live on site and were very friendly and hospitable (we particularly appreciated the welcome drinks when we arrived!). The children loved the animals at the property and enjoyed feeding them every day. They were also kept busy with the swings and a trampoline in the large garden as well as the two swimming pools at the property. Gail and Mike were a mine of local information giving us good ideas for days out to local towns and attractions which are within easy reach of Berneuil. Lovely property in a lovely quiet location - Cognac and St. Emilion not far away and also eye catching villages on the coast. The property is in a relatively rural location so perfect for family holidays - accommodation is flexible with plenty of space to relax in and some quiet areas away from the kids! Our two weeks rushed by and we have fond memories of our holiday.
