I couldn't have asked for a better host

I've never felt so spoiled with hospitality nor felt so welcomed to a new neighborhood. I'll definitely be back. The subway was convenient. The neighborhood felt neighborly, in the best sense. Any amenities I might desire were waiting for me in a spacious apartment which was cozy, quiet and had both charm and character. I felt welcomed into a most generous family. Thank You!

Home from home...

We agree with all the points made by the previous reviewers of Lloyd’s Brooklyn oasis. We were equally charmed by Lloyd’s warm hospitality and enjoyed our regular visits to the Bread Stuy for iced mochas and muffins (on the house!).
For us, the most important aspects were feeling safe, being part of the friendly Bed/Stuy community and the apartment’s proximity to Manhattan, only 30 mins by subway on the A express. We had a wonderful holiday and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for home comforts in New York.

Enjoy warm hospitality

The apartment is full of character as is Lloyd your host! Lloyd was really welcoming and showed us around the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is very friendly. There was everything that you could need in the apartment for a really good stay. The apartment is very quiet and lovely and sunny. We slept better than we do at home! The Bread Stuy (Lloyd and Hilary's coffee shop) is fabulous. Our hips/stomachs still bear witness to the wonderful cakes and muffins. The staff there are so friendly and it is like a local neighbourhood community centre. You will get talking to people and feel a part of the local area there. We had a great time. Fran and Andy in London, UK. The photos of the apartment are accurate and Lloyd was helpful with questions we had before hand. Very good value for money. Subway 5 mins walk.

...but we had a real good time staying at Lloyd's.
The appartment is nice and what we really appreciated was that it was very quiet at night. You could even hear birds singing!
Lloyd is definitely a friendly guy and always willing to help.
It takes only 30 mns (a short walk to the subway + the A train) to be right in the heart of the city.
Of course we will recommend this place to friends .
We want to thank Lloyd for the great time we had at his place and we'll probably be back some day.

Almost like home

The Guys from Sydney Sydney Australia

I have been home for nearly three weeks and am continuing to tell friends and colleagues about the great find in Brooklyn. A Gold Star to Lloyd for his hospitality, sense of humour, obliging nature and great apartment. When we returned at the end of each day after exploring Manhatten the apt was always inviting, we would almost run up the two flights of stairs to our warm and cosy home, where everything was provided for, well maintained, extremely comfortable. A short walk to the subway, where we never felt ill at ease, then a 20 minute trip put us right in the heart of things. With the ease of getting around we knew we had picked the right location for our stay in New York. We always looked forward to breakfast at Bread Stuy, where the staff were great, friendly, helpful with ideas and tips and they were genuinely interested in "the guys from Sydney".
I hope to return in the future but in the meanwhile will recommend to all - a stay at Lloyds is a must.

We had a really good time staying here.
It's a nice apartment (not least because of the lovely singing by the downstairs neighbour). It's located in a pictoresque and friendly neighbourhood and is close to the subway into Manhattan. The owner is friendly and helpful and we loved his coffeshop one block down. Great for coffees and cakes in the morning. (Do try the bananabread! ) Round the corner of the apartment is a deli and further down are restaurants and a bookshop.
Staying here gave us a real good feel of living in New York. Brooklyn was a nice surprise and we went back to Holland with a much more positive outlook on America, americans and mankind in general. If we ever come back to New York, we will come back to this apartment!

Living Like a New Yorker!

Four from GA Warner Robins, GA
Review Submitted: January 2, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
If you want to experience living like a New Yorker, this is the place for you! Located in Brooklyn, a 25 - 30 minute ride from Times Square on the A train, you will feel like you belong. Lloyd is a wonderful host! He and his wife have worked hard to help create a sense of community in this area of Bed-Stuy. One of my concerns going in was safety - but we felt completely secure, never threatened. The people of the neighborhood were very friendly. One of the "perks" of renting from Lloyd is breakfast (coffee and muffins) at his coffee shop around the corner. Fantastic atmosphere, extremely friendly service, and lots of good advice about things to see and places to go!
Lloyd was very friendly and helpful, beginning with his tour of the neighborhood. The apartment was much better than a hotel, bigger and better furnished. The kitchen is a little smaller than it looks in the photos, but is very functional. We didn't use it much, but it was well-equipped for preparing meals.
There were four of us staying there for the week, but since we were there only for nights it was sufficient.
I would (and have) recommended this property to friends, and I will stay there again when we return for another visit to NYC.

We have had a great stay at "our apartment" it feels just like home. Lloyd is gracious, helpful, and knowledgeable, we loved his sense of humor. When we had numorous questions about the construction of brownstones he provided us with reference materials and information. It doesn't get much better than that. "Our apartment" was spotless, warm, and very comfortable. The location, in relation to the subway, was excellent and the area was beautiful. We spent hours walking around looking at the architectural details of the area. We would highly recommend "our apartment" to others.

More Than I Could Ask For - Thanks Lloyd!

Sorry it took me so long to finally get around to writing this review. I stayed here with my boyfriend and two other friends here back in May. Lloyd was extremely helpful with any questions we had. He gave us very helpful advice when it came to getting around and things we should see. Staying at Lloyd's even meant free breakfast and coffee at his and his wife's cafe down the block! We apologize for causing so much noise (even more so when we tried to be as quiet as possible) when we got in during the wee hours each night! This third floor walk up was an amazing find and I am completely gratuitous. Everything was provided, even juice, water, and fresh fruit!

We had a great time in New York, including our stay in this apartment. We had all the comforts of home, especially a full kitchen so we could same money by eating in when we wanted to. The description of the unit is accurate and the owner was very friendly and helpful when we needed anything. There were also toys in the unit that our kids enjoyed including a play kitchen and the owner also made us aware of several child-friendly activities in the area. The apartment is very close to the subway, providing access to all that New York has to offer.
