We've had a lovely two weeks putzing about the countryside and reading in the garden. Highly recommend the Etruscan remains around Sovana as well as a visit to the bookbinder in town.
Thank you so much for your hospitality, great advice - and for the lemons! We shall be recommending Zolferate to our friends and relations.

Un accueil tres sympa et un endroit superbe qui font vite oublier le chemin rempli de poussiere (!) et nous plongent dans le charme de la Toscane.
Merci pour cet agreable sejour,

Kath and I have just had a really great week. Accommodation is very good, views superb and your advice and guidance great! The sausages from the local butcher are great - but try the 'porchetta' - it's really very good. Food has been excellent from the local restaurants as has the wine! Would recommend a trip to Siena - well worth the visit.
A really great time, Ian and Kathleen, UK

Outstanding accomodation for winter or summer

Having been back twice now, I would highly recommend a stay in this quaint and relaxing accomodation.

The service I received while there was some of the best I have experienced and Graham is extremely accomodating and friendly. I have stayed in both cottages and equally they are beautifully designed to fit in with the surroundings, very clean and cosy. Graham knows all the restaurants and sights in the area and was particularily great at introducing or directing us to these.

This part of Tuscany is extremely beautiful all year round. I especially like my trip in December just as Tuscany starts getting festive.

This is the perfect place to stay in the area, either to relax or if on business, to focus. Grahams Wi-fi is no doubt the best in the area and I was able to do everything I needed while there. I espeically like the fact it sits on the edge of a valley, waking up to such a perfect picture like landscape was definately a highlight!

Tuscan rural retreat

I have spent several pleasant short holidays recharging in Podere San Angelo, far from the madding crowd and city lights. The apartments have been beautifully renovated in the old Sicilian style and Graham, the owner was extremely helpful and courteous. The property is situated in the heart of the Maremma, one of the most remote, unspoiled areas of Italy and there are lots of bridle paths to walk along and explore the countryside. I spotted deer, porcupines and lots of different kinds of birdlife. The nearby village has a couple of excellent, well-priced restaurants. Siena and other medieval hill-top towns and villages are within easy reach by car. No nightclubs but I had a curious experience wallowing in the hot sulphur springs of Saturnia at midnight, contemplating the vast swathes of the Milky Way.

Rural Tuscany

Zolferate is in a lovely, quiet rural part of Tuscany, and the cottage is comfortable and well-equipped, with super views across to the village of Roccalbegna and down the valley to the sea in the distance. Graham is an excellent host - friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. There is lots of walking locally, but we'd recommend having a car available - easy driving (not much traffic) to plenty of interesting places. We particularly enjoyed: Sorano, Pittigliano and the Etruscan sites; a day at the seaside (Monte Argentario); a trip to the top of Monte Amiata; the gardens at la Foce. And the food in the local restaurants !

We spent our fantastic vacation at Podere Sant'Angelo situated in this very characteristic south Tuscany area after staying in the "colle fiorentina" close to Florence. The location is quite unspoilt so it's more authentic than Tuscany's more famous but created landscapes around Florence and Siena ....
The apartment was very clean and all the facilities worked well. We enjoyed a very nice view, and especially the quiet location!! We also appreciated the very good local red wine provided by the landlord, Mr. Graham.
I recommend Podere Sant'Angelo to all my friends who live in Milan.

Zolferate Cottage

Review Submitted: November 14, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We spent 3 nights at Zoferate cottage in May of 2008. It's a tastefully converted, and furnished, barn building situated in an undiscovered and beautiful part of Tuscany. We loved the peaceful location. The village of Roccalbegna, which can be reached by a shortcut on an unmade up road as well as the less exciting normal route, is lovely, and was totally devoid of other tourists when we were there.

Graham was very helpful and was a wonderful host, and
we would definately reccommend Zolferate to anyone who would like to escape the crush of tourists and see a whole new area of Tuscany.

If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday with stunning views, nature and super sunsets this is the place! We spent a great weel in Zolferate cottage last summer, we enjoyed it so much we are going again this summer. The cottages are very well equipped and beautifully clean. We enjoyed visiting the many local trattorias only a short ride away. The local pool in Castel del Piano is great for children and adults. Polly aged 8 loved the beach, pool and eating her favourite foods everyday! We can recommend this a place to stay for all ages big and small!

So many memories! The lovely cottage which catered for all our needs in a first class way, dancing under the stars at the village fete in Roccalbegna, swimming/sunbathing at the superb lido at Castel del Piano, and eating at the famous Corsini . The hand painted pottery shop at Arcidosso, the total peace of the garden with it's aromas of lavender and herbs, bees, butterflies and tiny lizards scuttling around the rockery, the friendliness of the village, the butchers delicious sausages,La Grotta's gorgeous pizza, pasta and puddings. , The owner was so knowledgeable and helpful and the advice he gave us re directions, eating out, and local knowledge was great. We have already recommended it to friends with confidence.
