Villa Elisa - Alhaurin de la Torre

Having spent a week at this lovely villa last September we decided to go again this June.

Upon arrival, we spoke to the property manager and she informed us that the previous party had just left this was 2.30pm (check out was supposed to be at 10am). After unpacking we cleaned the BBQ area as this was still dirty from the previous party.

Anyway as we settled in and proceeded to prepare the BBQ for the first evening, we noted that the lights on the outside had been changed to a timer. So whilst eating and cooking, we had to wave our hands in the air to reactivate the lights. A little annoying especially for the BBQ chef after a while.

At around 11pm we went to turn on the air conditioning to find that it had been changed to a meter at one euro an hour I felt that this was a rip off as this was inclusive last year. On the first night we had no euro coins and therefore the first night we had no air conditioning which was just horrible.

On the Friday morning we found workers in the Garden they had their own key and informed us that they were there to carry out works in the outhouse, and the proceeded to start drilling etc whislt we were still in the property. This had not been arranged/agreed beforehand and raises security and privacy questions.

Friday afternoon the owner and another couple turned up in the garden, again with their own keys to drop off two pillows and check the pool (the pool attendant was at the property on the Wednesday). At this point I felt that people could just come and go with their own keys whenever they felt like. These visits should be agreed to beforehand.

On the whole the villa remains lovely but perhaps slightly cheapened with the air conditioning pay as you go and lights on timer.

I would urge anyone visiting the villa to take at least eight euro coins per night for the air conditioning.

Whilst visiting the villa try the "Beirut" restaurant around the corner, the friendly service, food and value for money is very good indeed.

Owner's Response: 1.check in time is 15.00,not 14.30 the cleaners were not finished cleaning ,they told the clients to come back at 15.00
the last client left the villa at 09.00 in the morning to catch their plane at 11.00 from malaga airport.
we have been renting the villa for 12 years now
all the old air/cons were not working as well as they should be
so we decided to replace all the air/cons and make them pay as you go
this is on the holiday-rentals site
the people before these people had children who put ther hands through the mosqueto nets in the bungalow
so we had a man make them and fit them a.s.a.p
these people were not renting the bungalow.
on thursday we were passing the villa ,we had 2 pillows as we always like to have spare bedding incase of emergency
so we popped in to ask if everything was o.k.
the answer was ,all is o.k.
everytime i go to the villa the frist thing i do is cheque the pool, because everybody likes a nice clean pool for there stay
when i looked at the pool ,i got a big surprise there must have been 15 small balls and a lot of floats ,a crockadile was blocking the strimmer and balls in the strimmer
when this happens all the flys ,dust and debery stay in the pool ,because the strimmer cant work
so you end up with a pool thats not nice
we have pool gide lines for the pool
when not using the pool please remove all floates ,and dont put any balls in the pool ,
when Brian the manager & the cleaners arrived on sunday to clean the villa
there was a key in the back of the security door (main door) we could not enter the villa to clean ,had to call the locksmith out. This was this group who had just left.

I stayed at this amazing Villa in June for 2 weeks with my family of 4 and our friends which also is a family of 4

We arrived at the Villa at 12pm and was aware that check in was 3pm but called in advance and the owners said we would be welcome to drop of our luggage and go and explore

This turned out perfect as we popped to a local restaurant for lunch and to chill out and then popped to the local supermarket for supplies. By the time we had done this it was just passed 3pm

When we arrived and had a good look around the Villa we were amazed at the size and so pleased it was so enclosed as we had a 3 year old with us who likes to explore.

The Decor is very modern and tasteful, and the leather suites are very comfortable. Even the bedrooms had matching headboards and wardrobes and colourful bedspreads.

The kitchen is very well equipped, down to coffee maker and liquidiser. We sometimes walked into town, which is a very pleasant walk passing orange trees and took a taxi back. (to full of food and drink to walk J )

The Villa and grounds were very clean and tidy and the pool is great. The only trouble with the pool was it was a struggle getting the kids to come out for a break J

The shaded patio area is close enough to the pool to keep an eye on the kids but far enough away to avoid the splashes. The bbq was great and used daily.

I can honestly say that for all 8 of us it was the best holiday we have ever had and will be sure to return next year

We stayed in this villa the last two weeks in July 2009, there was 14 of us staying there to celebrate the birthday of one of our family, My parents who had driven to Spain arrived at the villa before us, and could not gain entry as the keys kept spinning in the lock, to cut a very, very long story short the property manager eventually got us in and told us we couldn't go out, as we couldn't lock up, until lock smiths had come which would not be until the next day. They did come as promised and what followed was a day of them drilling ( very loud) and changing locks, not anyones fault but a bit annoying for the start of your holiday.
The villa itself is ok, a bit basic inside, but then you don't spend much time inside on holiday,it slept us all easily as it is large and on a very large plot. The bar b q area is great and shaded which is good during the day, the lights though are on timer for the evening which is annoying as you constantly have to wave your arms to keep them on when cooking and actually the one shining on the bar b q was only fixed the last few days of our holiday so we actually had no light at alll to cook by.
Our biggest dissapointment with the villa and something I think you should take into consideration when booking is that the air conditioning costs 1 euro an hour, something which we feel is not made clear on villa details, we have a very young baby who was inside for much of the day as it was so hot( the heat not bing anyones fault!), and young children who went to bed early, so on average in a 24hr period we were having to pay 18 eoros to keep it going, so much so that one night the a/c actually stopped because the money box was full, though in his defense the very helpful property manger did come as soon as we called to empty it and get the a/c up and running again.
We booked the villa in peak time and so paid a high price and felt let down by how much we then had to go on to pay to keep cool, we have booked and had holidays in many villas and have never paid for air conditioning or had lights on timers.
As mentioned in the owners details, you really do need a car as the only thing in walking distance is a chemist, irish bar and lebanise resturant..all very good. This is a good location and villa for large parties as long as you have a car and are prepared to pay for the air conditioning, and as we all know in the height of summer in spain that is essential.

Owner's Response: 1. we are very sorry there was a problem with the entering of front security door, when the cleaning service left everything was in order or they could not have prepared the villa clean? the locksmith arrived within the hour to secure the front security door and everyone was able to use the villa with the back door keys they were never told to stay in as the front door was locked and secured. The next morning the locksmith picked up from malaga a new lock and it was installed at 11 oclock in the morning. Sorry about your complaint about the drilling noise if he did not drill how could the man install the lock?
all clients are sitting around pagola at night there is movement all the time of 14 people so lights are on, the reason for this is clients were leaving lights on all night and they were burning out this was a high danger so this was done for clients security. The spot light on the barbeque was not reported and as soon as it was the same day was fixed. Brian the manager reported a call out at 11.30 at night only to find there was no problem at all plenty of room for more euros, 18 euros which you stated was not put into the machine as there is a counter on it recording euros as they enter.
A car is recommended but not essential many of our clients do not rent the cars for this villa as we are only 5 mins to bars and restaurants and 10 mins to garage, supermarkets and i walk this myself when in residense. We recommend a car for shooping at large central supermarket and any emergencies.

Ola! We have just recently arrived home from a wonderful week in Villa Elisa. I would like to complement John & Lorraine on the Villa as it is very well kept and has everything you need. We travelled with 3 adults and 6 kids who were kept entertained by the pool and the playing court, however may I suggest if taking kids be prepared as the sallow end of the pool is very deep so mind pack rubber rings & arm bands. I would also recommend a car if you wish to eat out and visit the beach or plan on buying gifts as there is not a shop within walking distance to do so. There is a small town – were not many people speak English not even in the Irish bar! Also before travelling check out the local supermarkets in the end we found about 5 which were all good for your weekly shop if planning not to eat out. I also suggest you have a look on the net at services for what goes on a round the town as the villa does not have any information that is up to date. If you smoke take plenty of cigarettes with you as the local shops, garage and supermarkets do not sell them – you will get them at the news stands about 3 of them located in the town – but most of the time they are closed.

We love Spain.

My family and I have just spent ten days at this gorgeous villa. our second visit and wow its still lovely, a very nice part of spain. Car essential but available from malaga airport ( 15 mins away) 15 minutes to costa and torremollinos lots of restaurantsand lots for family to do. Villa has large (un-heated) pool which needs to be appreciated on a hot day. nice full size tennis court, and area for playing pool or table tennis included . must emphasise this is a lovely housing estate just outside a typical smalll spanish town. If you visit your almost certain to return. the owners are very friendlyand helpful 5 star

I recently had the pleasure to stay at this villa and found the description to be spot on.

The villa is really very lovely and the pictures shown really do not do justice to the property. We found it to be clean and it had a lot of activities for both children and adults.

The customer service provided was excellent and found that the owners were efficient and very friendly.

I would recommend this villa to all of my friends and plan to return next year.

We found a lovely Lebanese restaurant in Alhaurin de la Torre called Beirut. The owners were very welcoming and the food as excellent and very reasonably priced. I recomend that you go early 1pm for lunch and around 9pm for supper as it got very full (mostly locals).

I would suggest to people staying at the villa to buy the very basic foods before going to the property as there is no welcome pack on arrival the local petrol station can provide most of the immediate requirements i.e. milk, bread etc.

we have had a fantastic holiday here at villa elisa, there were 4 adults and 4 kids-ages ranging from 2 to 7 and we spent nearly all our time at the villa as there was plenty to do.The tennis court was used daily by adults and kids and we all loved the pool. The sandpit was a great hit as were the swings and pool table. It did help having sky tv for the times the kids wanted to get out of the sun.The upstairs bedroom gets the late sun but as long as the blinds are kept shut its not too bad at night.Plus the air conditioning in every room is a godsend(and we went in June). What we loved is that it is very secure-with the gates the kids can play quite safely without the worry of them escaping(or anyone getting in).We hired cars as the supermarket is down a large hill(or up on the way back!!)which were also useful to visit aqualand twice, selwo marina and the cablecars which were all brilliant days out.We did visit the beach and had a few meals out-theres a lovely restaurant in Torremolinos on the beach with lovely staff also the local chinese was lovely.Definately needed the 2 weeks we were there as we had such a relaxing time in such a beautiful villa. The only thing which we didnt realise was the layout may not suit everyone-all rooms are downstairs with the master ensuite on the first floor. For us,this wasnt a problem. We had a friendly cleaner who came and helped us with anything we needed. All in all a perfect holiday!!! We want to come back and my 4 year old has told me he wants a villa when he grows up...so it was a hit all round.Thankyou!!

Dear Loraine

We had a fantastic holiday in your beautiful Villa Mimosa!
It had everything we could have possibly needed. The sparkling swimming pool was a big hit! The outside eating area was well used, and we agree the views across the orchard towards the mountains are spectacular! El Sexmo village was close enough for us to walk to for provisions etc..and we found a lovely bar as well.
As you know we have also holidayed at lovely Villa Elisa and your apartments in Torremolinos and Benalmadena, so now we are really going to be spoilt for choice. As usual everything was well organised before and during our stay, thanks again Loraine, we will recommend to all!
