Too much sun

Review Submitted: October 8, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
I wanted a vacation with lots of sun and I got my wish in spades. I'm not complaining. How can I ? The weather was unbelievable and the Villa was all it was cracked up to be. The views were spectacular, the Villa was clean, and well located. Beautiful sunsets off a large deck. Everything we needed except clothes. We will be back

Great place to celebrate...

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay than Perelandra! It simply is a beautiful villa with amazing views and a perfect location. In fact, we were so pleased with the villa, our first morning and afternoon was spent by the pool unwinding and preparing for the week ahead. We were never in a hurry to leave the villa. It was nice to have such a great place to come "home" to each day and enjoy the sunsets or just relax by the pool after a day of exploring.
I highly recommend Perelandra!

Beautiful Home

Everything was just as we were promised. Clean, well decorated, beautiful views. Landscaping is beautiful, felt like we were in a tropical rainforest. You looked out and over the foliage, but from the lower deck there was also a beautiful view.

Perfect for 4 people. We enjoyed all our meals on the deck looking out over Cruz Bay. A broken beach chair was replaced very quickly with a phone call to the property manager.

Would highly recommend this property. Excellent owner!

A Home in Paradise

Review Submitted: January 13, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
My husband and I have just returned from a blissful week at Perelandra. Check in was a breeze and the villa was perfectly suited to accommodate us and our best friends, another married couple. Furnishings were comfortable, the kitchen well-stocked and the views sensational. All St John has to offer was easily reached from Perelandra, and we spent our days exploring the beaches, snorkeling and sailing. A quick ferry ride and we were on Jost Van Dyke for 'Old Year's Night'. At night after a visit to the Starfish Market and a dip in the splash pool we would grill out and delight in our neighbors (2 iguanas and flocks of bananaquits). St John is our favorite place on earth and we will definitely stay at Perelandra again. Thank you for having us!

My last stay was in June and we can't think of a better place to stay. We are repeat guests. Our favorite things to do are watching sunsets on the deck or enjoying morning coffee in the same spot. The villa is beatifully decorated and the owners have a great interest in the guests ejoying both their home and the island. Trunk, Cinnimon and Hawk Nest Beaches are within 15 minutes. I hope you will enjoy Perelandra as much as we have.

The Best Way to Do St John!

Review Submitted: August 15, 2008 Date of Stay: January 2007
This review is long overdue for us. We were extremely fortunate to have 'found' Perelandra early on. Now that we have been spoiled with its beauty, privacy, views, and easy access to our favorite beaches... we really won't go elsewhere. We have been blessed to stay at Perelandra many times.

As so many others have noted, the villa is very well-appointed. It is beautifully decorated and filled with every ammenity that one might need. While on St John, we have found that we like a mix of eating out and staying in and have always found it easy to do both from Perelandra. Eating out is easy because Perelandra is conveniently located to town and the many fabulous restaurants on St John. Staying in is easy, thanks to a wide variety of quality pots & pans, and tupperware. Plus, the views from the villa really are better than most that we've had from other places on the island.

Another habit that we have formed, thanks to several trips to St John & Perelandra, is starting out at the beaches in the morning, and returning to the pool for the afternoon. We have found that the pool is a perfect temperature for a swim in the evening and the deck is an enjoyable way to relax in the afternoon. The landscaping around Perelandra provides both privacy and beauty.

We would definitely recommend this villa to others. In fact, we have recommended it to many of our friends and all of them were thrilled with their stay at this incredible villa!

Wonderful!

We had a fabulous time in St. John and Perelandra was definitely part of the reason why. The home is beautiful, well appointed and in a perfect location. We enjoyed the deck so much! We ate breakfast and dinner out there every day. In the morning we were dining with the fun bananaquits and at night we were dining with the stars. We didn't eat a single dinner out, no restaurant could have a more perfect view than we did at "home"! Perelandra did become home quickly. It is so well taken care of and you can tell there is definite pride of ownership here. I'm a stickler for cleanliness and this place was immaculate. The pool is awesome! We swam several times a day, the evening swims were the best. Nothing like floating and being lost in a starry sky. It is very private so we felt like we were on our own island. The landscaping is gorgeous too, we watched hummingbirds flutter around the bouganvillea every day. I highly recommend this villa, you won't be disappointed. I wish I could have rated this a perfect 5 but there were just a couple reasons I didn't. First, there is a large construction project going on just down the road. We were gone for the bulk of every day so the noise didn't bother us too much, although the workers parked their jeeps/trucks just off the driveway of Perelandra so it made getting out in the morning a little tough. The second reason is that the villa has a/c only in the bedrooms. That may be fine for some people, I thought it would be fine for us, but it wasn't. After being out on a beach baking all day it would have been so nice to come home and be able to cool off. When we were in for the night, it was very uncomfortable to sit and try and watch tv because we were just so overheated. The units in the bedrooms worked great though. This may not be as big a deal during other times of the year, or if the weather was different. It was very warm while we were there and there were no breezes coming through the villa at all. If you tolerate the heat well this won't be an issue for you in the least. The owners are wonderful to work with and truly want you to have a great time. We had a week that was magical and we'll live off the memories for a long, long time.
Owner's Response: Thanks to all my past guests for their reviews. They're so right; we really do want all of our guests to have a fantastic time and to fall in love with Perelandra and the magical island of St. John the way we did several years ago.

We always call our visits to Perelandra our "marriage insurance" (term borrowed from a travel forum poster a long time ago); all relationships need that injection shot of romance and peace.

I did want to address the issues of the construction vehicles and the great room not having a/c. Sirenusa is the name of the project and personally we hate it. The units are just about done and, I do have to admit, beautiful. But they have not always respected the property owners near them as they promised. We have artfully placed some huge rocks near us to dissuade their parking near our property but obviously we need more. Which we will do when we are there next week. BTW, you absolutely can not see the project at all (Perelandra is very private) and, personally, we haven't heard any noise the last few times we were there (and neither have our guests as far as we know until this comment) but it is NOT at all rock-blasting noise but perhaps daytime hammering associated with interior carpentry work? Didn't think you could hear that but I'll update you honestly when we return.

Re: the GR a/c, we 1st need to replace the 2 screened french doors with sliding doors which we plan to do in September. Again, I'll keep you posted on our progress.

Thank you again to all my guests, who may not have posted but may read this, many of whom are repeaters. I'm so overjoyed with all the wonderful people I've had the opportunity to meet over the 5 years we've owned and rented out Perelandra (bought from the builder 5 1/2 years ago). I feel like so many of them are unseen, yet treasured, friends. It really has encouraged us as to the state of the world around us--so MANY good people...

Cynthia

Definitely Romantic!

Wonderful Experience!

Perelandra is all that it is advertised to be. Clean, private, extremely comfortable, well equipped, wonderfully lanscaped, and absolutely romantic! The morning coffees and evening cocktails on the deck with its spectacular view are ingrained in our memories. The evening dips in the pool were particularly welcome and refreshing after long days on the beach! Not to mention all of the special touches provided that made us feel welcome and special. We will never forget the rainbows over Cruz Bay and the gorgeous sunsets! God is good!!!!

We were extremely blessed to be able to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and a 50th birthday at this locale. One, of if not the most romantic week of our lives.

We were treated very professionally by the property management company. They were friendly, extremely thorough and helpful. We'd say they went out of their way to help us with whatever we needed. The one small manitenance need we had was handled immediately!

St John in May was wonderful. Not crowded, great weather, no real issues to speak of. The hibiscus in bloom, the dazzling color of the water, every beach spectacular (we hit 5), we have over 700 pictures and still could have taken more! A kayak/snorkeling tour with Hidden Reef Eco tours was a great experience! Be sure to bring your sunblock!

We loved the Virgin Island Pale Ale (hint of mango) at the Island Brewery (draft better than bottle), the blackend mahi-mahi sandwich at Woody's, the burgers at Skinny Legs and the carribean lobster at the Waterfront bistro. And I'm sure we just touched the surface of the available cusine. Can't say we were disappointed with any dining experience.

We hope to return to St. John soon and will definitely choose Perelandra! Highly recommended!!!

Perelandra is a magnificent perch from which to enjoy St. John and a cozy nest. We don’t mean to say it’s “for the birds,” but during our all-too-short weeklong stay we enjoyed the company of hummingbirds (3 species), ever-hungry bananaquits, anis, kingbirds, kestrels, finches, and an inquisitive pearly-eyed thrasher. It was fun to search out the iguanas’ positions in the trees every day and watch various little striped anoles scurry on the outside walls and deck. The breezes and hillside setting of Perelandra, combined with plenty of ceiling fans, made the house perfectly comfortable without turning on the air conditioners. Perelandra’s location is ideal –well out of the fray of Cruz Bay, but very convenient to groceries, the post office and even the gas station. Dinner in town was just a few minutes’ drive or cab ride (on the two nights we tore ourselves away from dinner on the deck). There was plenty of privacy for two couples to share Perelandra as well as ample common space to gather in. We did not get postcard-perfect weather for much of our stay; it was unusually cloudy and the record-breaking swells off of the north shore beaches limited most of our snorkeling to the south shore, but waking up at and coming home to Perelandra every day kept our dispositions sunny and made our vacation ultimately satisfying. For a return migration to St. John, we would not hesitate to choose this special aerie again.
