AL PARCO REVIEW
My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Al Parco in September 2009. The apartment lived up to its listing description; indeed, it exceeded it. It was well furnished, well equipped, clean and comfortable. A lot of thought had evidently gone into anticipating guests' needs, with little things like an introductory bus pass, drink in the fridge and free local calls on the telephone making one feel at home. The air con was useful in hot weather and the balcony is large, with comfortable furniture. We were met on arrival and given a comprehensive introduction to the apartment, supplemented with written briefing. Paola accommodated our minor requests before our visit and both she and Ken were most helpful. (Paola's English is impeccable!)
The apartment's location is very convenient for local services. There are plenty of shops nearby, including a good supermarket, and a selection of restaurants, including take-aways. A regular, frequent and inexpensive bus route passes the apartment and goes directly into the city, passing the central railway station and the bus station en route. We had no need of a car, but there is secure parking on site. The airport is not far and the taxi ride cost us only 15 euros. There is a taxi rank 400 metres from the apartment.
We made several trips into Bologna, which has a lot to offer - culture, shopping, restaurants etc. It was not too crowded and although prices at bars in the centre had a premium they were not as bad as Venice, Florence etc. We took advantage of the railway system to visit Parma, Ferrara, Modena and Ravenna. The services are convenient and not expensive, though Ravenna is less easy to get to. All 4 are worth the trouble; each has something exceptional to offer.
We had a memorable holiday, in which Al Parco played its part. This is an apartment which I can recommend without reservation
