Great memories

I met my parents halfway from Nashville and me from New York..it was a great Thanksgiving getaway. The cabin was clean warm and cozy.(the bedding was just like home) They had everything one would need to enjoy a peaceful week. We prepared a wonderful meal for Thanksgiving and they had every baking dish, pan and let's not forget wine glasses to create a feastive feast. We watched movies, read books and talked the night away. We took deep breaths and enjoyed the view in the morning, walked during the day and lounged at night. Bella (my dog) loved sitting out on the deck all day... Thanks for a great time! We will be back

This is a beautiful cabin for a getaway!! Very secluded, private location. The view from the sundeck can not be captured with photos. We basked in the fall sunshine and watched the golden eagles soar over our heads.

The cabin is well appointed. It is stocked with everything we needed ..... it was a pleasure to not worry about taking things with us.

The bottle of wine provided was a welcome surprise!! We enjoyed a hot cup of coffee every morning.

You won't believe the view of the stars at night!! Spectacular ..... to see what we miss living around city lights.

We also highly recommend visiting the Guest House at Lost River!! It is on the way up the mountain. We took a tour with Tammy during the day. Later, we had a wonderful dinner after drinks in the beautiful bar. The owners and all the guests we met there were fantastic.

Thanks again for sharing your cabin!! We can not wait to come back.

Great views and a great kitchen.

We stayed for 3 days and greatly enjoyed listening to the crows squabble while watching the sun rise over the mountains (aided by the timer-enabled coffee maker). Some rental places can be sparse but this one felt like a home. The kitchen had just about everything one could want: coffee grinder, meat thermometer, cookie sheets, bisquick, tea, general spices, olive oil, even backup pasta if one were to arrive unprepared. The only thing we couldn't find (oddly) were measuring spoons but perhaps not everyone bakes while on holiday. (Look under the stove for the bbq tools.) The living room had a bird guide, a tree guide, binoculars and a spotting scope. The beds had great linens.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your time up at the Lost River Cabin, and appreciate the feedback on the measuring spoons. We will add a set to the kitchen inventory for future guests.

it really is a perfect mountain home

the house is very nice, clean and well stocked. The beds are comfortable and the linens are perfect. The view is great and the deck comfortable. the house is close to both lost river state park and trout pond national forrest area which both have great hiking as well

we cooked every meal in and so we needed extra kitchen linens which we brought.

The house is built for men or tall women..the kitchen sink and bathroom mirror are clearly for the 5'8''+ crowd...a very small inconvenience in an otherwise perfect mountain home

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review and tip on mirror positions!

For future renters, we have installed a 2nd mirror in the guest bedroom that is lower on the wall.

For those interested in the hiking mentioned in this review, please feel free to check out Lost River State Park and Trout Pond State Park. I'm not allowed to provide links through this review, but you can find them easily through Google.

This place was beautiful. The scenery, the peace and the wilderness were a great combination. One of the days we stayed there we went to moorefield but wished we had stayed in the cabin. We are looking forward to returning. I would recommend this stay for anyone.

Must visit!

If you want to get away from it all, spend time soaking in crisp mountain air, stargaze on the deck with a glass of wine, sleep in downy beds and wake up to an array of outdoor activities, this is the place for you. Plenty of room for a group of friends to relax and dine; cozy enough for a couple to enjoy the wood-burning fireplace and other amenities. Beautiful restaurant located down the country road where you can stop in for a cocktail, or opt for someone else to cook you a feast to remember. Classic country store at the bottom of the mountain where sandwiches can be made to order for a day tromping through the wilderness. Wineries, festivals and more always underway. Don't turn down an opportunity to visit this very comfortable cabin in the woods. You won't regret it!

The Perfect Getaway to Relax and Recharge!

ATX Gal Austin, TX
Review Submitted: July 17, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
I've stayed at this cabin a few times, with my last visit in April 2009. I loved being able to breathe in the fresh air and relax in the quiet peace of Lost River! I spent many hours on the deck reading, while enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The living room area is also very cozy - comfy couches and a wonderful fireplace that's perfect for keeping warm on chilly spring nights. Bring your hiking boots and enjoy morning hikes or sunset strolls along the ridge. Kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans, glasses, etc. - never went hunting for a necessary utensil that we couldn't find, which can be frustrating while you're cooking! We also had a lovely dinner at the Lost River Inn at the bottom of the ridge. This Lost River cabin is one of my favorite getaway destinations!

I have stayed here 3 times in the last year - this cabin is the perfect place to take a deep breath and relax. It's clean and well-appointed so it will appeal to the discerning traveler, yet at the same time is welcoming and comfortable. The views and the quiet can't be beat! It really is a simple, easy option for a quick getaway. Highly recommended.

We have been to this cabin a few times - with kids, without kids, with dogs, without dogs and always have a relaxing and fun time! It is a joy to sit on the deck with a cup of tea and just enjoy the view! Hiking in the state park is fun and the road cycling is amazing. (nice warmup in the valley before hitting the hills!) In the evening - the the cozy living room has the perfect board/card game coffee table. We will come back again for sure.
